WATER TEMPERATURES
A very good week weather wise, with plenty of sun and little rain, as such water temperatures remained much the same as last week at 14.6 degree’s, however whilst oxygen levels have generally remained high on all lakes, owing to the overnight rain levels had dropped slightly to 45%.
Outlook for the week ahead is again mainly dry with temperatures sitting around the mid teens.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
Again the main focus this week was on the predator fishing which started on 1st October, although catches have slowed down a bit the sport is still good with reported doubles and plenty of fish in the 3-8lbs bracket coming out to deadbaits. The pike fishing has been pretty decent with plenty of jacks and the odd double figure fish being taken again on float ledger dead baits.
The general fishing also continued well as we head further into the autumn with plenty of bream showing on the Old Lake along with a few tench and the odd carp. Bonds and Milton Lakes also fished a lot better now that we have flushed the system through with mixed bags to 30lb to 40lb being reported on Milton whilst a number of anglers on Bonds reported some pretty good action from the carp with bags to 60lb to 80lb reported.
Following the recent action on Temple, it was still a quiet week generally with just one big thirty caught and a handful of twenties.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – PIKE & ZANDER FISHING
After the first incredible day of the predator season where over 100 zander and numerous pike were caught our visting anglers are still enjoying some good success with many claiming their first ever Zed. No matter how big or small the first ever Zander is always considered a special feeling.
Shallow water areas are still clearly the favorite areas to target, so it was not surprising that float and ledger tactics worked best with both freshwater and sea baits both catching. Saying that, a few boat anglers also caught on plugs and spinners with a couple of fish also falling to the fly! Whilst small roach caught well the pike and larger zander also fell to smaller sea baits such as smelt and mackerel tails and spratts. With small baits, whole or sliced pieces are the best bait to use with a top tip being hair rigged bits of mackerel on a single hook set up.

Fishing a small ledgered smelt dead bait, predator newcomer Kieron Sparks ended his day in fine style with a cracking 12lbs 11oz Zander. Fishing the front bank, the fish was in tip top condition and was caught late in the afternoon around 4.30pm on a dull drizzly day early in the week.
Tony Watts from Crawley, was another angler who was into fish with 6 zander up to 8lbs and three pike up to 6lbs, fishing the top end of the long bank on peg 49, Tony fished small roach and spratt dead baits with a small float set up catching throughout his session.
Opting to fish the early pegs along the long bank, Basil Marks managed 7 fish during his day including a double with a nice 8lb 8oz fish plus a 7lbs 9oz pike.
Trevor Kilduggan also managed a reasonable pike during his day, fishing the middle section of the front bank, Steve float fished small roach catching two pike, the best a cracking 12lbs 14oz specimen.
On a recent visit, Anglers Mail Gary Newman enjoyed a short session catching fish to 9lbs 11oz on sea deadbaits.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
With the mild weather continuing, it was no surprise to see the bream continue to feed well with a number of anglers reporting bags of up to a 20 fish. With fish showing along both the front and long bank pegs, the middle and early pegs are the swims to head for.
The ‘In Method’ for bank anglers continues to be a small feeder or cage feeder with hair rigged or lassoed 8mm halibut pellet on a size 16 barbless hook. It is also important to remember to ping out a few pellets around your feeder little and often as this does make a very big difference to the catches. Saying that, pole and float tactics are also catching with soft expander pellet still being the best bait by far over a bed of 3mm halibut pellets.

Regular Keith Hampson popped down for a midweek visit on the front bank peg 19 and helped himself to 5 bream up to 4lbs on hard pellet hair rigged.
Mike Head fished peg 8 and had a fine day using white mini boilies bagging 25 bream up to 5lbs.
Tom Daley-White collected some sound advice from our tackle shop manager Russ Evans and promptly had one of the best days fishing of his short fishing career catching 8 bream and a tench on the feeder.

Charlie Cole aged 14 had a nice 8lbs mirror carp from peg 26 on the long bank using a tutti frutti boilie on a size 6 hair rig over a bed of cell response pellets.
Fishery bailiff Rob Hawkins has reported some good tench action from some of our visitors with fish up to and around 8lbs fishing close in against the margin cover. Baits such as corn and meat over small feed pellets is the best feeding policy with light float set ups best for bites. Pegs 48-53 fished late afternoon onwards have seen the best time for the tench action.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Following a couple of really good weeks, the carp fishing on both the Old Lake and Temple Lake slowed a touch this week with just two thirties reported from Temple, a cracking 35lb 8oz mirror plus a 31lbs 12oz common along with a few twenties whilst the Old Lake produced a reasonable number of doubles as well as a few twenties.
The Temple magical “100 thirties” caught in 2009 has now been reached, which is quite amazing when you think that Temple is only 5 years old. Whilst previous weeks has seen the back bank producing the best sport, this week the fish have come from all areas although popped up corn is still the main bait.
Despite mixed temperatures, the Old Lake also continued its autumn run of fish with anglers reporting some reasonable catches. Whilst tactics and baits remain much the same as in previous weeks, Icelandic Red boilies are fishing well as are KG1, Activ 8, Maple 8 and Cell boilies. Whilst most good quality baits will catch, it is also worth trying pop ups and popped up corn.

Star angler of the week was James Hiscock who on a 48 hour session landed five fish with the biggest a cracking 35lbs 8oz mirror which came in driving rain soaking James in the process. From peg 15 and using Cell boilies with pva bags fished in the margins and open water James recorded other fish of 27lbs 15oz, 24lbs 2oz,23lbs 10oz Mirrors and a common of 19lbs 2oz. (Photos to follow shortly)
Another angler to do well on Temple was Ray Harding on peg 9 who had two nice fish of 31lbs 12oz common and 23lbs 5oz mirror, both fish fell to corn.
Sean Howard with his recent 31lbs mIrror.
Night members have also been catching a few carp on the Old Lake with many reporting up to 8 fish in a night, although not big, a few twenties of have been taken on the usual boilie winners like Icelandic Red, KG1, Source and Maple 8 as well as Cell which is becoming quite a good bait on both of our specimen lakes.

BONDS LAKE
Following last weeks flush through, Bonds fished a lot better this week with some very good weights and catches being recorded. Matt Fuller and his pal Jude from Reigate have been making recent visits to the lake catching carp up to 10lbs with plenty in the 5-8lbs bracket.
With all methods working, a small feeder is still the best method. Key baits remain pellet and mini boilies with maggot also catching, indeed if you ask in the tackle shop, you can get a leaflet describing the ‘in’ method on Bonds, which will certainly help to increase your catches.

MILTON LAKE
Milton Lake also benefited from the recent flush through of water with anglers also reporting some excellent mixed bags.
With tench and crucian still showing, it was the silver fish which started to show in good numbers with anglers starting to report bags to 40lb. With all areas producing a few fish, the margins are still the best bet for a few tench and crucian whilst the float and pole line is the best area to target for the roach, rudd and carp. Regarding baits, hard drilled and soft pellet and corn over small pellet are catching, with the roach, rudd and perch showing well to maggot, caster and worm.
This weeks catches
During the week Milton has been producing some cracking roach and crucian sport for anglers fine tuning their tackle and hooks with maggots and caster sorting out quality fish. Scaling down to size 18 hooks is much needed for more bites as the colder nights are starting to make the fish feeding habits slow down so the right gear and right feeding patterns will get them feeding again. Maggots will always produce bites.
Hadley Angling held a recent club match on the lake with top spot going to Chris Jackson who on noted peg 3 scaled a match winning weight of 20lbs 10oz losing many fish in the process. Corn over pellet for the carp in the main did the trick for Chris who had a narrow win over his next rival Peter Roll who had a fine day on the roach with 19lbs 4oz catching up in the water with caster for the redfins. Third place went to Alan Tunney who was also not far behind with 18lbs from peg 7 catching 5 bream, 1 crucian and 1 carp.
