THIS WEEK'S FISHING! (In brief)

With autumn almost upon us, we are entering one of the most productive times for carp catches, in particular on Temple lake, which is already producing some good fish.

Last week Jon Botting had an eight-carp catch including two ‘thirties’, and this week there was a 32 lb common and a 29 lb mirror from Temple.
September and October are among the best months of the year for heavyweight carp at Bury Hill. Last year Nemo, The Ghost and Friar Tuck were all banked at this time, and on the Old Lake in September alone there were three 30 lb fish landed.
Mark Essex was the latest angler to land a Temple ‘thirty’, with his 32 lb 2 oz common, while Pete Theckston had the 29 lb 2 oz mirror.
On the Old Lake, three anglers shared a 19-carp catch on pegs 2, 3 and 4, the best fish a 21 lb 8 oz mirror, and there was a carp of the same size for Steve Hayes, fishing peg 2 on a separate occasion.
Details of Sunday’s 56-peg charity match arranged by The Carp Shop, Horley, should be available next week.
Milton Lake shows no signs of slowing down as the temperatures begin to fall, regular Alan Derbyshire landing 20 crucians.
But now the specimen roach are getting more of a look-in, which bodes well for some big fish and catches, as the other species curb their feeding.
The slightly cooler weather looks set to stay, with around 16 or 17 degrees C all this week and some showery interludes after a stormy Monday, winds being from a rain-bearing westerly direction throughout the week. But the rain is expected to ease as the week progresses with just passing showers from Tuesday onwards between sunny spells. The showers should peter out altogether on Thursday, leaving a dry Friday and weekend, Friday and Sunday being the driest and sunniest days. Winds should become lighter and the temperature should rise to 18 for Saturday, with 16 for Sunday and then back to 18 for Monday. There could be some strong gusts on Monday and Tuesday of this week, even into early Wednesday, before they become moderate and fall light leading into Saturday and Sunday, strengthening again for Monday. Overnight temperatures could dip just into single figures for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday nights, but recovering to 12 degrees for Sunday night.

FOR ALL THE VERY LATEST CATCHES AS THEY HAPPEN, CHECK-OUT THE BURY HILL FISHERIES FACEBOOK PAGE AT www.facebook.com/BuryHillFisheries

• The predator fishing season begins on October 1 and continues until March 14.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
Shared sessions with multiple catches of carp were the theme of last week’s report, and that continued this week with 19 fish for three anglers on a visit.

Jason van Vuuren, Mark Carter and Dean Spence were fishing on pegs 2, 3 and 4 and landed fish to 21 lb 8 oz on Sticky Baits 20 mm baits tipped with white or pink pop-ups in snowman presentations over loose offerings.
And Steve Hayes had a 21 lb 8 oz common from peg 2 on an overnighter, using a Tutti Frutti pop-up and an A2 Baits Creamy Toffee wafter cast a rod length off the bar bank.

• Bury Hill features in several videos posted on YouTube presented by famous globetrotting angler Graeme Pullen as part of the Totally Awesome Fishing series.

TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Mark Essex, from Cheam added to the ‘thirties’ tally for September with a common of 32 lb 2 oz (see photo below) from peg 9, on a 16 mm Crab boilie cast tight to the island with a PVA bag of six freebies.

While Paul Theckston got off the mark with a 29 lb 2 oz mirror carp from peg 3, on a CC Moore bait cast to the island margins.
Last week we reported how lake regular, Conor Cook, from Westcott, landed a 22 lb mirror carp at peg 15, on an 18 mm Mainline Cell boilie, using a small PVA bag.

Conor also had a 24 lb common later in the same 48-hour session (see photos below) on the same bait, fished mid-way across.

PLEASE NOTE: LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLD LAKE. PLEASE SEE KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

BONDS LAKE
Bonds regularly produces multiple catches of carp to double figures on a variety of methods, from pole to feeder and straight lead to waggler.

For anyone thinking of having a day on Bonds and wanting to make the most of the fishing, it would be well worth a look at:

MILTON LAKE
Milton Lake is the place to try for a catch of prime roach, using a waggler on a running line or pole just a short distance out, close to the pads, where they can be lined up with a little-and-often loosefeeding approach. And in the mild spells there are crucians, tench and bream to be caught, along with occasional carp.

Lake regular Alan Derbyshire was in action again, this time landing 20 crucians to 1 lb 8 oz and two big roach at peg 18 on 13-metre pole and 4 mm expander pellets, cupping-in 2 mm pellets with groundbait.

Russ Evans knows the lakes at Bury Hill better than most. Over the years he has written many articles as well as producing his own series of DVDs to help you improve your catches, which are sold in the tackle shop.
