WATER TEMPERATURES
It was no surprise to see water temperatures soar following the hottest week of the year so far, which saw temperatures top 30 degree’s.
Not surprisingly, water temperatures increased further to 23 degree’s whilst oxygen levels settled at circa 30%.
Outlook for the week ahead is a lot cooler with temperatures dropping to around the high teens, which will have a positive effect on the fishing.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
Despite extreme temperatures this week, the fishing was actually not too bad, with all lakes seeing a few reasonable catches reported. However as we moved into the weekend the steady drop in temperature saw the fishing improve with Temple Lake in particular seeing a number of fish caught with 6 fish reported on Saturday alone which included a couple of very big twenties.
Turning to the Old Lake first, this has seen some good carp catches reported with most anglers bagging 6/8 fish, although the stamp of fish has remained smaller than normal with the twenties being somewhat elusive. The general fishing has also seen some reasonable bags reported with both tench and bream making up the weights.
The two smaller lakes, Bonds and Milton also saw some reasonable sport during the week, although both lakes have been under pressure with oxygen levels and the cooler weather will certainly help catches over the coming days.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS CURRENTLY A LIMIT ON THE AMOUNT OF GROUNDBAIT YOU CAN USE ON THE OLD LAKE, PLEASE ASK IN THE SHOP FOR DETAILS.
As temperatures soared this week, so did water temperatures topping 24 degree’s by the end of the week, which understandably did slow the fishing down a little with the best sport being found early and late.
Not surprisingly, it was the bream that again dominated catches this week with some reasonable bags reported along with a few tench and even the odd carp.
With all banks producing a few fish, pole, float and feeder tactics are all working well with most baits catching including large pellets and maggot.
This weeks catches
Regular Tim Farrel had a great days sport on peg 16 catching a good net of bream and two bonus tench. Fishing a waggler, 5 rods out, Tim fed small pellet fishing an 8mm pellet over the top. Whilst Tim caught steadily, the best of the action cam e late afternoon as temperatures dropped slightly.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Despite a tough week, Temple threw up one thirty and a good number of twenties, which included two big upper twenties.
With the shallow water and back bank fishing the best with a lot of fish coming from the margins, anglers are still finding popped up corn one of the most successful baits, although a wide range of good quality boilies are also working well.
The Old Lake also saw some reasonable multi catches reported in the week with a number of anglers reporting up to a dozen fish a session, although in the main these have tended to be mid to upper doubles with just the odd twenty reported. With all banks producing a few fish, the shallow water areas seem to be fishing the best with all banks generally producing a few fish.
Bait wise, whilst Icelandic Red boilies are still taking a lot of beating most good quality baits will catch with Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies all worth a try. Popped up glugged corn is also a good bait currently.
This weeks catches
Karl Jansen from Hanworth had a good night catching a new PB in the shape of a 30lb 8oz mirror from swim 11 which he caught on glugged corn to the island margins.
Another angler to catch was Andrew Kelly who just missed out on a Temple thirty catching a cracking big mirror weighing 29lb 13oz.
Fishing swim 1, Andrew fished a simple running rig with a boilie to catch from the margins.
Russell Bryce also scored late in the week catching a 29lb mirror on popped up corn from the back bank.
Another angler to catch was Mark Nightingale from Eltham who caught a 27lb 11oz common on a Nutra Baits G-Force boilie. Steven Forsyth did well catching three fish during his session from peg 13, two mirrors and a common, Steven’s mirrors weighed 20lb 10oz and18lb 8oz mirror whilst his common weighed 24lb 4oz
Other anglers to score on Temple this weekend were Barry Osborn who caught a 20lb 7oz mirror from swim 14 on Dynamite boilies Sweet Chilli and Spicy Tuna and David Webb who caught a 19lb 12oz common, which he caught on a Mainline Fusion boilie.
On the Old Lake a number of anglers reported multi bags of up to a dozen fish with Graham and Tony Vary sharing a 15 fish haul which, included mirrors and commons to 16lb. Fishing the open water from swims 64 and 65, The pair caught on Icelandic Red 18mm baits.
Another angler to do well this week was Mark Savage who fished peg 75 behind the island catching a dozen fish. Fishing Maple 8 and Scopex stringers, Mark caught all his fish from the open water remarking that all his fish were in mint condition.
BONDS LAKE
Bonds Lake generally fished well this week despite the weather with a number of anglers reporting some good catches. As is normal for the time of year, all methods are working, although pole and float are probably the two best methods currently as the fish are definitely feeding up in the water. Regarding baits, pellet over pellet and maggot are both catching as are corn and mini boilies.
This weeks catches
John Franks had a good day midweek catching a dozen or so carp to 9lb, which he caught on large soft pellets feeding 3mm micro pellets.
MILTON LAKE
Despite some low oxygen levels early week owing to the weather, Milton fished pretty well during the week with anglers reporting mixed bags to 40lb. Whilst the margins appear to be fishing the best, most banks are seeing some reasonable bags with both pole and float tactics both working well. Best baits seem to be large 8m or 10mm soft pellet over small pellet, although maggot, caster, worm and corn are also catching.
This weeks catches
Colin Hill had a good day early week catching a real mixed bag including tench, crucian, the odd carp and quite a few roach and rudd. Colin fished a short pole catching on pellet.
