WATER TEMPERATURES
Generally a much warmer week, the ice has now all melted and the fishery is fully open. Today water temperatures were 6.4 degrees which is a massive rise from just 3 degree’s last week whilst oxygen levels were up at 36%.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
With water temperatures now steadily increasing, all lakes have started to fish a lot better with some excellent winter catches being reported from all lakes with Milton and Bonds lakes starting to fish very well for the time of year. Indeed Milton Lake has seen some very good roach and perch catches reported these past few days with one angler bagging close to 20 perch, 11 of which weighed over 1lb, the best hitting the scales at 2lb 1oz, see catch report below whilst other anglers have been catching roach to 1lb 12oz. In turn, Bonds Lake has also been producing some very good winter catches with an angler this morning reporting 10 carp to 10lb in just a few hours fishing.
Whilst the Old Lake will take a little longer to recover from the ice, this has also been producing some good sport in recent days with anglers catching both pike and zander from all areas whilst those general fishing have found the bream pretty obliging with fish to 5lb being reported in bags to 20lb.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – PREDATOR FISHING
With increasing water temperatures, the Predator fishing has improved no end this week with anglers catching a few pike and zander from all areas. Indeed, as water temperatures continue to increase expect the predator fishing and the zander fishing in-particular to pick up with fish showing in better numbers.
Whilst tactics remain much the same as in previous weeks with float and ledgered baits both working, a lot of the fish are coming to ledgered dead baits with small roach and trout baits, both whole and sections both fishing well although smaller sea baits such as smelt and mackerel tails are also catching. Indeed, smaller baits will always work better at this time of year and for the best chance of a fish or two fish a single hook rig, treble or single size 8 or 6 and a head section of a small roach, trout, smelt or sprat lip hooked. Another good tactic, which is working, well for those finicky bites is hair rigging your deadbaits by using very small pieces of roach, mackerel and smelt which can have deadly results.

This weeks catches
Ian Murray had a good session mid week catching 3 pike to 13lb and a 9lb zander, a new PB for Ian. Ian fished a roach head section on a single size 6 hook which he ledgered to the deep water from peg 26.
Chris Rainbow had a couple of zeds Sunday weighing 9lb and 6lb, Chris fished peg 2 along the front bank catching on small sections of roach fished on a single hook rig 20mts out.
Another angler to catch was Paul Taylor, Paul fished peg 11 along the front bank catching 2 pike which were both low doubles. Paul caught on float fished smelt which he fished to the margins.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
With increasing water temperatures the general fishing on the Old Lake picked up this week with anglers bagging a few bream and skimmers from both the mid and deep water pegs with the pegs either side of the boathouse definitely worth a go! Both float, pole and feeder tactics have been working with smaller baits such as maggot, caster and worm catching bags to 20lb.
This weeks catches
Regular Phil Stevens had a good session on the long bank catching 4 bream to 5lb and a few skimmers for a good 20lb. Steve fished a 6m pole with single red maggot fished on a size 22 hook.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE - CARP
Whilst the carp boys have been few and far between in recent weeks, the handful of anglers who did make the effort this week have been rewarded with a fish or two on the Old Lake whilst Temple Lake remains pretty queit despite a few fish seen patrolling.
Whilst the mid and deep water sections remain the most productive areas, the island margins are still producing a few fish. Bait wise, much the same as previous weeks with most good baits working but certainly Icelandic Red, Fusion, KG1 and Cell, white and yellow pop ups are also worth a go at this time of year over a few PVA bagged pellet.
This weeks catches
Chris Rainbow had a very good session in the week catching two mirrors from the Old Lake weighing 24lb and 15lb. Chris fished the deep water catching on Cotswold Baits new ‘Kick’ boilies.
Please Note!
Temple Lake can only be fished by Specimen Carp Members who also have the priviledge of being able to night fish the Old Lake. With membership numbers strictly limited to anglers with some experience of catching bigger fish. Membership includes Old Bury Hill Lake and Temple Lake our new specimen carp lake. Following recent stockings, Temple currently holds just under a 100 fish to upper thirties, which now includes 30 known thirties, the average size is over 28lb. To date there has been a waiting list to join, however there is a small number of places available for 2008 which will be available on a first come first served basis, anyone interested should contact David or Jane on 01306 877540, or download an application form from our website.

BONDS LAKE
The two smaller lakes have responded well to the swing in water temperatures this week with Bonds in-particular fishing well with anglers bagging nets of up to 10 fish for 40lb plus bags. Surprisingly, larger baits have been working with single pieces of corn hair rigged to a size 16 hook over little feed is the winning method with baits presented on the island margins being the area to hit. Fishing with dead red maggots also accounted for some good fish on the tip and a small loaded waggler cast over to the island.
This weeks catches…
Jason Rice from Woking, fished Bonds Sunday catching 10 or so carp to 10lb. Fishing peg 8, Jason fished corn and maggot on a light float set up.
MILTON LAKE
Our best winter water, Milton Lake is really starting to buzz as water temperatures continue to increase with some prime nets of roach and perch helping to make up bags to 25lb. For those who love to catch a big perch or two, now is the time to get on Milton, the big stripeys go to well over three pounds plus with single red maggot and small hooks over a small offering of chopped up worms irrestible to these big mouthed predators with anglers this week reporting bags of up to 20 plus fish. A good number of quality roach are also showing with fishing close in the best tactic with small floats ideal for delicate presentation. Single maggot, caster and worm are all working.
This weeks catches…
Pete Turner from Ewell had a great session on Milton this week catching a good net of perch, 11 of which topped the pound mark, the best hitting the scales at 2lb 1oz. Pete fished worm and maggot on the pole.
