2010 HUGE STOCKING PROGRAMME NOW COMPLETE!
This winter’s huge stocking program is now complete following the dredging of both Bonds and MiltonLakes. OldBuryHillLake has seen a large number of big tench stocked as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. MiltonLake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3500 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. BondsLake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.
WATER TEMPERATURES
Despite a cold northerly wind for most of last week, water temperatures rose a degree this week to 18 degree’s whilst oxygen levels stayed consistent at 65%.
Outlook for the week ahead is that things are warming up with much better weather forecast with temperatures slowly increasing day by day with 21 degree’s forecast for next Friday. So expect some excellent fishing.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
Another very good week with all lakes fishing extremely well.
Following last weeks run of BIG carp from Temple, which saw 10 thirties caught, there was another handful of thirties reported this week along with some good twenties, although the cold nights did slow sport the Big Fish a touch. The OldLake also continued to fish well with yet more twenties reported in bags of up to 12 fish.
Turning to the general fishing, match and pleasure anglers found some great sport again this week with all lakes fishing extremely well with big bags of fish reported from all lakes.
Whilst the OldLake continued to see plenty of bream action, there were a lot more tench caught this week, which is a good sign that summer is finally arriving. The jungle in particular produced some excellent catches with a couple of the boats reporting big tench action.
The fishing on MiltonLake also continued well with anglers catching big bags of crucian and tench, which included 2lb plus crucian, and tench to 5lb as well as plenty of quality roach, rudd and perch. Bonds Lake also saw a return to its past glory with anglers reporting good catches of carp with anglers catching plenty of fish to 14lb plus in nets to well over 100lb.
OLD BURY HILLLAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
Despite another cold week with temperatures well below the norm, the general fishing on the Old Lake continued much the same as in previous weeks with some bumper hauls of bream and tench reported by both bank and boat anglers. Indeed, there were a lot more tench reported this week, which is always a sure sign that summer has finally arrived.
With both bank and boat anglers reporting bags to over 100lb, the mid and shallow water areas continued to be the most productive with the most pegs on the front bank and the top end pegs on the long bank all fishing particularly well. Although the deeper water swims also saw some reasonable fishing as the week wore on.
With all methods catching, the feeder still seems to be the most popular choice although float and pole are also catching well with red maggot and soft pellet being the best baits although as water temperatures continue to increase, larger baits such as paste, meat, corn and mini boilies will all start to catch a few better fish.
With good numbers of tench already in the jungle and with more fish joining them day by day as water temperatures slowly increase, expect some brilliant boat sport over the coming weeks with anglers already reporting bags close to 80lb.
This week catches…
Rose Turner from Essex had a great days sport in the week when she fished peg 32 on the long bank. Fishing a 3AAA waggler 30yds out loose feeding 6mm pellet with banded 8mm pellet on the hook, Rose ended her day with 28 bream to 5lbs plus 6 bonus tench which all weighed around the 5lb mark for a good 110lb bag.
Bury Hill’s tackle shop manager Russ Evans also grabbed a short evening session in the week as part of his filming of “The Obsessed Angler” series, Russ had a cracking session from peg 13 catching 33 crucians and 28 tench plus some great big roach up in the water. A light waggler fished a couple of rods lengths out accounted for the cracking session with double red maggot over small micro feed pellet.
To bag your first ton of bream, talk to Russ or Ken in the shop who will be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
Mark Savage and his brother enjoyed a week long session on the OldLake catching a rake of carp during the evening with a few nice twenties and loads of big doubles. Most of the fish came out on Activ 8 frozen boilies over a spod mix of particles. During the days both anglers kept entertained by fishing for the bream and tench with great success, finding three red maggots most successful on a feeder set up.
Dave Ewing had another good day on the OldLake catching 17 bream and 1 roach/bream hybrid to 4lbs. Fishing on front bank peg 10 the Godalming angler caught all of his fish on a 3g waggler with 6mm halibut pellets.
Also on OldLake peg 37 was John Withers from Sutton who landed 18 bream to 5lbs using a ground bait feeder with double red maggots or corn on the hook.
BondsLake produced some good sport for Damien Bennion from Clapham who was fishing for just the second time in his life. Fishing from peg 12 with small pva bags over to the island and 8mm hair rigged carp pellet, Damien had 10 carp to 12lbs.
Regulars Matt Fuller and Jude Agate fished their favourite pegs on Bonds Lake and had another great day catching commons over 10lbs plus some chunky mirrors up to 9lbs. Fishing a small lead tight up to the island with KG1 pellets and pva bags the two friends from Reigate in Surrey kept the fish coming all day long and look forward to another return trip soon.
Keith Hampson from Horley after a couple of lessons with our Russ Evans (see below) is really bagging up on Milton Lake and after a short 4 hour session on peg 18 landed 26 fish which included tench up to 3lbs, crucian over 2lbs plus some big roach and small perch.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLELAKE – CARP
Despite the change in the weather, another brilliant week for the carpers with Temple producing loads of twenties and 10 thirties whilst sport on the Old Lake saw plenty of fish caught which again included a good number of twenties.
With a thirty or two coming out almost daily now, sport on Temple hit a crescendo this week with 6 thirties caught over last weekend with a further 4 or so being caught during the week. With fish showing from all areas, most good quality baits are working with a variety of baits working including boilies, stringers, pop ups and corn all accounting for a fish or two. However, there is definitely a move away from corn with boilies and other baits starting to work better. Please note the onsite tackle shop now stocks the Richworth XLR8 frozen boilies which produced plenty of fish last year when sample tested.
PLEASE NOTE: WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLDLAKE. PLEASE SEE RUSS OR KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
The old lake also saw yet more bumper action this week with a good number of twenties reported and simply loads of doubles. Whilst the shallow and mid water swims continue to produce well the deep water pegs have definitely seen an increase in sport due to the colder weather. Whilst tactics and baits remaining much the same as in recent weeks with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go, pretty well any good bait will work at the present time although the old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 will all give you an edge! It is also worth trying one or two of the new boilies hitting the market and particularly the much talked about Marukyu bait range, which includes a new scientifically produced range of boilies which a few anglers have started to catch on.
Boat anglers have also been catching a few carp from the jungle with standard boat tactics consisting of float, boilies and large pellet working well.
This week catches…
James Kelly had a cracking looking mirror of 24lbs 11oz from peg 14 using a home made boilie in open water. During his 24 hour session James used just 1 kilos of loose offerings to tempt his prize.
Ray Harding enjoyed a 48 hour session earlier in the week and was rewarded with two cracking fish of 32lbs 10oz and 23lbs 2oz. Fishing from peg 8 Ray caught his fish of Cell boilies.
Roy Carslake is enjoying a few day only sessions on Temple and during his recent visit caught a nice thirty on a homemade boilie to make his day.
Jamie Campbell notched another big twenty to his list when landing a 27lbs mirror from peg 2. Falling to a Cell boilie, Jamie also wrapped some Cell paste around the 15mm offering to tempt the fish at 4am.
Jon Paine and Dean Webb from Sticky Baits had a nice midweek session with Dean catching two good fish, the biggest being a superb 32lbs 8oz common which was in pristine condition. (Pictures to be posted shortly)
Jake Portch (see below) had a cracking fish in the week landing a nice looking mirror of 25lbs 12oz caught during a day session on a home made boilies in mid water.
On the Old Lake Gavin Campbell had a good 24 hour session catching 6 carp all in the 12-18lbs region. Fishing peg 1 and Cell boilies Gavin took all of his fish from the far bank at night.
BONDSLAKE
Although we only saw a relatively small increase in water temperatures this week, the fishing on Bonds continued to get better with anglers reporting bags of carp to 100lb plus.
With pole, float and feeder tactics all working, the island and bank margins are the areas to concentrate on with maggot and banded pellet both working well, although as water temperatures continue to increase larger baits such as paste, corn and meat are also starting to catch.
MILTONLAKE
Despite a few cold nights and cold winds, the fishing on MiltonLake continues to go from strength to strength with yet more ton up hauls reported this week.
With the best of the fishing coming to pole and float tactics, big bags of tench and crucian have again been reported this week as well as some huge roach to over 2lb and good sized rudd and perch with nets of 50lb to 80lb being pretty common. With all areas producing, float and pole tactics are definitely the way to go, with pellet, paste and maggot catching on the pole line and inner margins.
Best baits are red maggots, soft pellets on the hook and micro feed pellets with light float tactics in the margins working best. Feed little and often all the time to keep the fish interested.
