This springs huge stocking program is now complete following the full dredging of both Bonds and Milton Lakes. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen a large number of big tench stocked as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3500 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.
WATER TEMPERATURES
Much the same as recent weeks as the hot weather continues, water temperatures again sat around the mid twenties hitting 27 degree’s on the odd day. During such conditions oxygen levels tend to move up and down starting low in the morning increasing as the day goes on. However, with one of the most advanced aeration system of any commercial fishery in the country, we can maintain safe oxygen levels which trigger the fish to feed, as such the fishing on all lakes has been pretty good despite the hot weather.
Outlook for the week ahead is starting to look cooler, with air temperatures dropping slightly to the early twenties. There is also the chance of the odd shower mid week, which will help refresh things.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
Despite yet another hot week, our aeration system has kept all the lakes pumped up with oxygen, meaning that the fishing has remained pretty good throughout.
The Old Lake saw further good bags of bream and tench caught with a number of anglers reporting bags of up to 20/25 bream plus some good numbers of tench, which by all accounts have been coming from the margins.
However it has been Bonds and Milton Lakes that have again fished well this week despite the hot weather conditions with both lakes continuing to produce some excellent sport. With good numbers of tench and crucian continuing to show in bags to 80lb on Milton Lake, anglers have also been catching quality roach and rudd as well as the odd big perch and bream.
Bonds has also seen something of a revival following last winters de-silting and stocking with anglers again reporting bags of up to 30 carp to low doubles for bags to well over 150lb with a number of anglers catching well up in the water.
Whilst the hot conditions has generally slowed the carp fishing this week, both Temple and the Old Lake have both seen some reasonable action with another three thirties and a few twenties reported off Temple whilst the Old Lake has again seen bags of up to a dozen or so fish to mid twenties reported. Photo Tony Watson's 31lb 8oz Temple common.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
So yet another scorching week, which saw temperatures soar to 30 degree’s and water temperatures top 27 degree’s. However despite the continuing hot weather, the fishing has remained pretty good with plenty of bream and tench showing in bags to over 100lb.
Whilst the best of the fishing has been early and late in the day, anglers have been catching a few fish throughout the midday period with quite a few bags to 50lb reported and even the odd haul bigger. With all areas producing a few fish, pole, float and feeder tactics have all been catching with a variety of baits such as maggot, banded, expander and soft pellet, corn and paste all working.
Boat anglers have also continued to find some reasonable sport in the jungle with tench, carp and bream accounting for bags to 60lb on float tactics.
This weeks catches…
Bury Hill regular Ray Parker had a good day mid week catching 18 bream to 4lb. Fishing peg 37, Ray fished a 12m pole catching steadily throughout the warm conditions on 4mm soft pellet feeding 4mm hard pellet to keep the fish interested.
Another angler to have a good day on the Old Lake was Terry Hayes, fishing the middle of the front bank peg 14, Terry started his day fishing a loaded waggler 5 rods out catching a steady run of skimmers and bream on banded pellet over pellet. However, Terry noticed a few fish fizzing close to his left hand margin and periodically flicked a few pellet into the margins to get the fish feeding. Dropping back to this area from time to time, Terry was soon into good numbers of tench and ended his day with 9 fish to 6lb, giving him an overall bag of 100lb with the bream.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
A bit of a mixed week for the carpers as water temperatures continued to soar hitting 27 degrees. However, both the Old Lake and Temple Lake both saw some reasonable action with another three thirties reported from Temple plus a few twenties and some reasonable multi bags from the Old Lake which also included the odd bigger fish to 23lb.
With the fish well spread out on Temple, there seems to be a lot of fish around the deep water swims which is most likely to do with the fresh southerly winds we have been seeing this week. With the fish coming out on a variety of baits, there definitely seems to be a lot more fish being caught on boilies with both shop baits and homemade boilies accounting for a few fish, although Cell boilies do seem to have the edge right now. Pop ups, zig rigs and popped up corn also continue to account for the odd fish with the odd fish also showing to floating baits.
PLEASE NOTE: WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLD LAKE. PLEASE SEE RUSS OR KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
The Old Lake has also seen some reasonable action this week with anglers reporting up to 10 fish bags, which included the odd the better fish to 23lb. With most areas producing the odd fish, the early pegs on the front bank and middle to top pegs on the long bank are all worth a go!
Regarding methods, PVA bags are clearly the way to go with pretty much any good bait working with old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 giving anglers the edge!
This weeks catches…
Darren Hazell led the field on Temple this week catching four fish topped by a stunning 30lb 8oz mirror. Fishing popped up corn to the island margins off peg 4, Darren other fish weighed 23lb 12oz, 20lb 10oz and 20lb 8ozs.
Tony Watson also managed his first thirty from Temple, a cracking 31lb 8oz common, which he caught from swim 11 on a single Cell boilie, which he fished towards the aerator.
We reported last week Lee Bacon’s catch of a cracking 29lb 2oz common, however it now appears that Lee’s scales were reading 2lb less than the true weight and as such his fish should have weighed 31lb 2oz. Lee caught his fish off the top from swim 3.
One of the most respected anglers on Temple, Sean Howard managed a pretty 26lb 120z mirror from swim 11, which brings an end to Sean’s bad run. Fishing his favourite bait, popped up corn, Sean caught from the island margins.
Rob Savage also managed a couple of fish during his session, a 20lb 8oz mirror and sub twenty common. Both of Rob’s fish came from peg 12 on Cell baits.
Following last weeks three fish haul, Craig Hess managed another fish this week, a 22lb 12oz mirror, which he caught from swim 4.
Turning to the Old Lake, Chris Peters had an excellent mid week session catching 8 fish to 23lb 7oz. Fishing peg 34 along the long bank, Chris fished 18mm Icelandic Red baits to the island margin with pva bags filled with crushed boilies and pellet catching mainly mid and upper doubles, topped by a stunning 23lb 7oz mirror.
Steven Hill also had a good week catching 9 fish from peg 74. Fishing both tight to the island and the open water, Steven fished Cell boilies on a running set up topping his catch with a 21lb common and 19lb 13oz mirror.
Whilst not the biggest fish in the lake, this 16lb plated mirror caught by Paul Pitchley from the Old Lake is certainly one of the prettiest. Paul also caught this stunning 25lb 10oz mirror during his session last week.
BONDS LAKE
With both the small lakes fishing exceptional well during the warm weather, Bonds again saw some excellent catches reported this week with plenty of anglers reporting catches of 8 to 12 fish, with a few bagging up to 20 fish.
With all methods working, the island margins still seems to be one of the key areas to focus on as well as the bank margins and pole line which are also accounting for quite a few fish. Whilst most baits will catch, pellet and maggot and the key baits right now feeding little and often which is tending to bring the fish up in the water, so don’t be afraid to fish well off the bottom is necessary.
This weeks catches…
Gary Mills had a good day mid week despite the 30-degree’s temperatures. Fishing peg 4, Gary fished a 12m pole catching 11 carp to 9lb on banded pellet over 4mm loose fed pellet.
Another angler to do well was Simon Tanner who opted to fish a small feeder to the island catching 9 carp to 8lb. Simon also caught on banded pellet filling his feeder with groundbait and small pellet. All of Simon’s fish came from the point of the island off peg 17.
MILTON LAKE
Another good weeks sport on Milton despite some pretty warm temperatures with anglers reporting 60lb to 80lb nets of tench and crucian as well as some bonus roach, rudd and bream.
With both pole and float tactics working, hard and soft pellet, paste and maggot continue to be the best baits with both the pole line and margins accounting for a few fish. With water temperatures up in the high twenties, the fish are up in the water so do try fishing just a foot or so deep spraying maggots out little and often for the chance of a good Rudd or two.
This weeks catches…
BH regular John Hind had a great days sport catching 20 or so tench and crucian as well as loads of roach and rudd for a good 60lb bag. Fishing peg 26, John fished a 10m pole catching a steady flow of tench and crucian on pellet before moving his bait off bottom when he started to pick up roach and rudd off the bottom. John’s best rudd went 1lb 14oz and his best roach 1lb 10oz.
