2010 HUGE STOCKING PROGRAMME NOW COMPLETE!

This winter’s huge stocking program is now complete following the dredging of both Bonds and Milton Lakes. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen a large number of big tench stocked as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3500 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.

WATER TEMPERATURES

Despite a cold northerly wind with 3 or 4 overnight frosts, water temperatures rose a degree this week to 13 degree’s whilst oxygen levels stayed consistent at 56%.

Outlook for the week ahead is that things are warming up with much better weather forecast with temperatures slowly increasing day by day with 25 degree’s forecast for next Friday. So expect some brilliant fishing.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!

Another brilliant week with all lakes fishing extremely well.

Following last weeks bumper run of BIG carp from Temple, which saw 12 thirties caught, there was another handful of thirties reported this week along with some good twenties, although the heavy overnight frosts did slow sport the Big Fish a touch. The Old Lake also continued to fish well with yet more twenties reported in bags of up to 15 fish.

Turning to the general fishing, match and pleasure anglers found some great sport again this week with all lakes fishing extremely well with big bags of fish reported from all lakes.

Whilst the Old Lake continued to see plenty of bream action, there were a lot more tench caught this week, which is a good sign that summer is finally arriving. The jungle in particular produced some excellent catches with a couple of the boats reporting ton up hauls.

The fishing on Milton Lake also continued well with anglers catching big bags of crucian and tench, which included 2lb crucian, and tench to 4lb as well as plenty of quality roach, rudd and perch. Bonds Lake also saw a return to its past glory with anglers reporting good catches of carp with anglers catching plenty of fish to 10lb plus in nets to well over 100lb.

This week we took a “fishing snapshot” of the general fishing on all three lakes on the same day, focusing on a small group of anglers who each fished a different lake. To find out how they got on, click the following link:

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Despite another cold week with temperatures well below the norm, the general fishing on the Old Lake continued much the same as in previous weeks with some bumper hauls of bream reported by both bank and boat anglers. Indeed, there were a lot more tench reported this week, which is always a sure sign that summer has finally arrived.

With both bank and boat anglers reporting bags to over 100lb, the mid and shallow water areas continued to be the most productive with the middle and early pegs on the front bank and the top end pegs on the long bank all fishing particularly well. Although the deeper water swims also saw some reasonable fishing as the week wore on.

With all methods catching, the pole still seems to be the most popular choice although float and feeder are also catching well with red maggot and pellet being the best baits although as water temperatures continue to increase, larger baits such as paste, corn and mini boilies will all start to catch a few better fish.

With good numbers of tench already in the jungle and with more fish joining them day by day as water temperatures slowly increase, expect some brilliant boat sport over the coming weeks with anglers already reporting bags close to 100lb.
This week catches…

David Ewing from Godalming had a great days sport in the week when he fished peg 16 on the front bank. Fishing a 2.5grm waggler 20yds out loose feeding 6mm pellet with banded 6mm pellet on the hook, David ended his day with 33 bream to 5lbs plus 3 bonus tench which all weighed around the 5lb mark for a good 130lb bag.

Bury Hill’s tackle shop manager Russ Evans also grabbed a short 4 hour session in the week as part of our “fishing snapshot” look at all three lakes. Fishing peg 21. Russ fished a loaded waggler 5 rods lengths out catching 65 bream to 7lb for a good 200lb bag of fish, which he caught on expander pellet. You can read all about Russ’s catch by clicking the following link.

To bag your first ton of bream, talk to Russ or Ken in the shop who will be more than happy to point you in the right direction

With plenty of fish now showing in the jungle, Mick Hicks grabbed a short couple of hours away from his bailiffing duties to catch a 15lb common. Mike fished 3 pieces of corn on a float-fished hair, which he fished over hemp, corn and maggot.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Despite the change in the weather, another brilliant week for the carpers with Temple producing loads of twenties and 12 thirties whilst sport on the Old Lake saw plenty of fish caught which again included a good number of twenties.

With a thirty or two coming out almost daily now, sport on Temple hit a crescendo this week with 8 thirties caught over last weekend with a further 4 or so being caught during the week. With fish showing from all areas, most good quality baits are working with a variety of baits working including boilies, stringers, pop ups and corn all accounting for a fish or two. However, there is definitely a move away from corn with boilies and other baits starting to work better.

PLEASE NOTE: WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLD LAKE. PLEASE SEE RUSS OR KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

The old lake also saw yet more bumper action this week with a good number of twenties reported and simply loads of doubles. Whilst the shallow and mid water swims continue to produce well the deep water pegs have definitely seen an increase in sport due to the colder weather. Whilst tactics and baits remaining much the same as in recent weeks with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go, pretty well any good bait will work at the present time although the old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 will all give you an edge! It is also worth trying one or two of the new boilies hitting the market and particularly the much talked about Marukyu bait range, which includes a new scientifically produced range of boilies which a few anglers have started to catch on.

Boat anglers have also been catching a few carp from the jungle with standard boat tactics consisting of float, boilies and large pellet working well.

This week catches…

The best fish of the week fell to Mick Dicks who caught a stunning 34lb 8oz Italian mirror from swim 6. Fishing a Pukka Spicy Chicken 18mm boilie to the nearside margin, Mike was on his own having to photograph the fish himself on the mat.

Another Temple regular to catch this week was Craig Hess who caught a 34lb 4oz mirror. Fishing swim 4, Craig fished a 18mm Activ 8 boilie, which he tipped with fake corn catching from the corner of the island.

Following last weeks run of big fish, Temple regulars Dave Povey and Lewis Gane returned to Temple in the hope of repeating last weeks bumper catches. Opting to fish swims 11 and 12, both anglers caught with Dave catching 6 fish which included yet another thirty whilst Lewis managed 3 fish including a pretty thirty pound common. With both anglers fishing Cell boilies in conjunction with PVA bags which they fished to the island margins, Dave caught 5 mirrors weighing 33lb, 29lb 8oz, 27lb 2oz, 24lb 10oz, 23lb 12oz and a common weighing 18lb. Lewis ended his session catching a cracking 32lb 8oz common and mirrors weighing 27lb 8oz and 20lb 8oz.

Temple regular Mark Gibson also had a good session catching a pretty 26lb 8oz common just as he was about to pack up. Fishing swim 11, Mark caught on a Cell boilie which he fished with a PVA bag filled with crushed up boilies to the island margins.

Other Anglers to catch on Temple this week were Rob O'Neill who caught a 22lb common from swim 9 on fake corn and Robs son Cameron who csaught a 27lb Common from peg 8 which he also caught on fake corn close to the island margins.

The run of twenties from the Old Lake continued this week with a number of anglers reporting fish to mid twenties. Steve Delia had a very good session in the week catching 14 fish which included 26lb common and mirrors weighing 25lb 8oz, 22lb 10oz and 21lb 2oz. Fishing swim 75 at the back of the island, Steve caught on 18mm Trigga boilies tipped with an 8mm white pop up which he fished over a 3kg bed of loose baits.

Tony Jones also had a good day catching 7 fish, which included a 22lb mirror and 20lb 14oz common. Fishing swim 2 just short of the far bank, Tony caught on 16mm Scopex boilies with a PVA bag filled with pellet and crushed boilies. Another angler to catch a couple of twenties was John Washer who managed 5 carp during his mid week session. Also fishing swim 2, John fished a homemade boilie to the open water catching mirrors weighing 22lb 10oz and 20lb 1oz as well as three good doubles.

BONDS LAKE
Although we only saw a relatively small increase in water temperatures this week, the fishing on Bonds continued to get better with anglers reporting bags of carp to 100lb plus.

With pole, float and feeder tactics all working, the island and bank margins are the areas to concentrate on with maggot and banded pellet both working well, although as water temperatures continue to increase larger baits such as paste, corn and meat are also starting to catch.
This weeks catches…

As part of our “fishing snapshot” day on each of the three lakes this week, local anglers Jude Agate and Matt Fuller opted to fish Bonds Lake catching 23 carp between them to 12lb. To read the full account of their terrific day click the following link:

Joseph Waldron aged 13 has a terrific day catching a new PB in the shape of an 8lb common catching on a maggot clip and open feeder which he fished to the island margins.

Tommy Hall also had a good day catching 4 fish including an 11lb common. Fishing an open feeder to the margins from peeg 10, Tommy caught on maggot.

MILTON LAKE
Despite a few hard frosts and generally a pretty cold week, the fishing on Milton Lake continues to go from strength to strength with yet more ton up hauls reported this week.

With the best of the fishing coming to pole and float tactics, big bags of tench and crucian have again been reported this week as well as some huge roach to over 2lb and good sized rudd and perch with nets of 50lb to 80lb being pretty common. With all areas producing, float and pole tactics are definitely the way to go, with pellet, paste and maggot catching on the pole line and inner margins.
This weeks catches…

Keith Snelgrove from Braintree, Essex had a cracking day on Milton last Tuesday catching 25 fish from peg 1. Keith started his session off fishing the pole 4m out, fishing prawn on a size 14 hook. Catching 4 tench to 4lb, 4 crucian to 2lb and a couple of nice roach, Keith then switched to the 8m line in mid afternoon and started catching roach all over a pound which culminated in two 2lb fish, the biggest 2lb 2oz (my first ever 2 lb roach!) Keith then went on to catch a nice 3lb bream, another 2lb roach and a couple of very small zander. All in all Keith had a fantastic day!

Keith’s mate Rhu Cayford fished peg 2 also choosing to fish the pole with prawn as bait catching 25 fish. Fishing alongside the reeds, the bulk of Rhu’s catch were tench and crucians which included 3 crucians over 2lb (biggest 2lb 4 oz) and lots of tench (biggest just under 4lbs.

As part of our “fishing snapshot” day on each of the three lakes this week, Bury Hill regular Hayden Woods chose to fish Milton Lake catching a good mix net of tench, crucian, roach and rudd. To read the full account of Haydens terrific day click the following link:
