WATER TEMPERATURES

A bit of a mixed week with sun and showers, which included the odd heavy shower. As such water temperatures have dropped slightly to 20.5 degree’s whilst oxygen levels have sat around the 50% mark.
Outlook for the week ahead is looking a lot better with temperatures due to rise to the early twenties with 25/26 degree’s forecast for the early part of the week.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!
Not a bad week with some good catches reported from all lakes. On the carp front, Temple produced its 80th thirty of the year with a further couple of big fish reported since whilst carpers on the Old Lake did equally well with one angler catching a 35lb common whilst another angler had a very busy session bagging 29 fish in one sitting.
The general fishing on the Old Lake has also been pretty good with bream once again dominating sport, although some excellent catches of tench have also been reported with boat anglers in particular finding some good sport from both the jungle and open water with one angler even catching a clonking great crucian weighing 3lb 2oz.
On the two smaller lakes, sport on Bonds has picked up this week with anglers reporting some reasonable catches to 50/60lb with one angler managing 36 carp to 7lb in a 6-hour session.
Milton also fished well again this week with some excellent mixed catches reported. With plenty of tench and crucian showing from all areas, some reasonable bags of quality roach, rudd and perch are also being caught.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
Generally another good week on the Old Lake with plenty of bream reported by both bank and boat anglers, which has included the odd fish to 8lb. Indeed, boat anglers fishing the open water have also found some big shoals with one boat reporting well over a ton of fish. Tench sport has also been pretty good this week with a number of boats reporting good sport from the jungle whilst bank anglers have also reported some reasonable catches with the top end of the long bank being one of the hot spots. One lucky boat angler also caught a cracking crucian from jungle weighing 3lb 2oz.
For the bream, a small feeder or cage feeder is still the top method with hair rigged or lassoed 8mm or 10mm pellet on a size 14 or 12 barbless hook taking the fish. However remember to ping in a few pellets around your feeder little and often as this does make a very big difference to the catches.
If boat fishing, try fishing a light pole float set up either on running line or a short pole. A couple of boats have tried this method this week with great results.
With all areas generally fishing well, float fished pellet is again the most productive bait, either hair rigged or lassoed whilst mini boilies, maggot, corn and meat are also catching well.
This weeks catches
Laurence Hughes had a brilliant day on the Old Lake mid week catching 26 bream to 6lb as well as quite a few skimmers. Fishing the middle of the front bank, Laurence did exactly what Russ in the tackle shop suggested, which was to fish a small cage feeder packed full of Marine Halibut groundbait fishing 8mm pellets on a size 14 hair rig. Laurence also pinged a few loose pellet out little and often to keep the fish interested.
One lucky angler to catch a stonking great crucian this week was Danny King, fishing from a boat down the jungle, Danny from Welling Kent fished a 6” puddle chucker with three maggots on a size 12 hook. Loose feeding red maggot and corn, this was Danny’s first ever crucian which helped him have a fantastic day.

Another couple of anglers to score with the bream this week was Steve Manning and Pete Taylor. Fishing the open water in front of the island off a boat, the pair fished light pole rigs, Steve on running line and Pete on a short pole. The pair fished pellet feeding small micro pellet catching 20 or so bream apiece with the best topping 7lb
Tackle shop manager also enjoyed a special session on the Old Lake this week doing a feature for Pole Fishing magazine, which will be out in the next month or so. In a short session lasting just 3 hours, Russ had 16 bream to 4lbs fishing a 6 metre pole out in the open water using Ringers Bag Up 6mm expander pellets over a small bed of marine halibut groundbait and halibut 4mm pellets which he simply catapulted out after every fish he landed. Russ used a fairly heavy float (0.75 to 1.0g) as the lake can tow a bit at times so it is important to pin the bait down on the deck for the bigger stamp of bream and tench. A size 16 to 12's hook is advisable with a string of No 8 shots bulked 8 inches form the hook, bites are simply a quick dip under the water without any warning, light elastics will be best to avoid bumping the fish off on the strike.... enjoy.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
A cracking week on both Temple and the Old Lake with Temple seeing it’s 80th thirty of the year banked whilst anglers on the Old Lake caught both a stonking 35lb common with one angler reporting 29 fish during a very busy session.
Looking at Temple first, the week has seen 3 good thirties reported with the second thirty of the week, Paul Pitchley’s 33lb 4oz mirror known as Two Tone being the 80th thirty banked since the start of the year, see catch details below. The week also saw a reasonable number of twenties reported which included a run of 29lb’ers which prior to spawning were all thirties. With both the road and back banks seeing some good fishing, the fish remain well spread out with the middle bank pegs probably fishing the best with the island margins always a popular area to try. Baits again are varied with both corn, boilies and pop up’s catching.
On the Old Lake, the fishing has again been good with yet more multi catches reported this week, which included a good number of twenties and stonking big 35lb common. With all areas producing fish, tactics and baits remain much the same as in previous weeks with Icelandic Red boilies continuing to take a lot of beating although Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies are also catching well, as will most good quality bait. Popped up corn and pop ups are also worth a go!
This weeks catches
Following a very hectic week for the carpers, Temple produced its 80th thirty of the year this week whilst the Old Lake produced a 35lb common and some very hectic sport for one angler who caught 29 fish during his weekend session.  Indeed, to get onto Temple’s top 100 list you now need a fish weighing over 28lb!
With a number of fish coming close to the thirty pound mark this weekend; Tony Mills and Paul Pitchley both came close to catching Temple's 80th thirty of the year with Paul actually taking the honours with Temple's Two Tone which weighed in at 33lb 4oz. Fishing swim 12, Paul fished popped up corn to the island margins catching Two Tone weighing 33lb 4oz and another well know Temple resident, 'The Curve' which weighed 26lb.

With a run of 29’s coming close to the thirty pound mark this week; Tony Mills bagged a cracking 32lb 10oz mirror. Fishing a boilie to the back of the lilies from swim 9, Tony also caught two other mirrors weighing 25lb 2oz and 20lb 6oz during his 24-hour session.
Another angler to find the action on Temple this week was regular Robin Ellis who caught three fish part way into his session, a brace of mirrors weighing 35lb and 25lb and a 20lb 4oz common. Fishing swim 13, Robin fished a white cream pop up to the margins catching all his fish after heavy rain, which seemed to turn the lake on.

Just missing out on a thirty was Craig Hess who bagged two fish during his session on Temple, a 29lb 15oz mirror known as Italian 2, which had dropped weight during spawning and a 27lb 10oz mirror. Fishing swim 13, Craig caught both his fish on fake corn fished with small pva bags of pellet from the island margins.

Following the capture of a stunning 36lb common the other week, Lewis Game was also unlucky not to bag a thirty this weekend catching a 29lb 14oz mirror, which is also down on weight following spawning. Lewis fished popped up corn, which he dipped in a Cell glug fishing his bait over hemp close to the island margins from swim 4.

Temple regular Dave Povey also managed a couple of fish during his overnight session, a 26lb 9oz common and 23lb 9oz mirror. Fishing swim 6, Dave caught both his fish on corn and Activ 8 boilies, which he fished over Ativ 8 baits and hemp.

Moving onto the Old Lake, Graham Trudgill had an incredible session catching a dozen fish which included two twenties, a 24lb mirror and 22lb common and a cracking 35lb common which is the best fish of the year so far. Fishing peg 38, Graham from Croydon Surrey fished fruit flavoured boilies over mixed pellet out towards the island. Returning a few days later, Graham to fish the other end of the lake, peg 68, fishing similar tactics  and baits to his earlier session, Graham caught another brace of twenties, a 21lb 1oz common and 21lb 2oz mirror as well as a 19lb mirror.
Another angler to score on the Old Lake over the weekend was Ron Ellis who during a very hectic session managed 29 fish during. Fishing Squid Liver boilies, Ron fished peg 15 catching off the point of the island. Whilst most of Ron’s fish were mid doubles, Ron’s best fish was a stunning 21lb fully scaled mirror.

BONDS LAKE
A better week on Bonds with some reasonable bags reported. With the fish averaging 4lb to 7lb, a few fish to 11lb have been reported in nets to 50lb plus.
With all methods working, feeder tactics seem to be the most consistent with pellet and mini boilies accounting for good numbers of fish. The secret is to fish tight to the island margins pinging loose pellet out singularly all the time.
This weeks catches
Russ Evans, Bury Hill’s tackle shop manager fished Bonds in the week catching a good 50lb of mixed size carp, follow Russ’s advise below and you will catch:
The best way to approach Bonds Lake for a few carp is by keeping things simple. Use a feeder rod with a 2oz or simliar tip, small Drennan cage feeder (free running) and then attach to the main line a Korum, quick-change bead. Attach to the bead a Middy Lassoo size 16 hook rig and lassoo an 8mm carp pellet onto this. Plug the cage feeder with either Dynamites Green Swimstim groundbait or softened micro pellet and cast over to the island making sure that you feeder and bait lands on top of the ledge that runs around the perimeter of the island, this ledge is approximately 1m wide. Be careful not to pull your feeder and bait off the ledge when tightening your line back to the rod tip, as the carp tend to feed on the top of the ledge and not below it. Once your feeder and bait is in place simply catapult over the top of your bait one or two 8mm pellets every 20 seconds or so as this will encourage the carp into your swim. Bites will be a ‘violent’ pull round, so DON’T strike at small pulls and knocks of the tip as this will mostly be liners. Keep feeding regularly to draw the carp in and around your hook bait, make sure your reel clutch is set correctly so as to allow the fish to take a bit of line on their first powerful run. Follow these simple rules and you will catch.

MILTON LAKE
Milton fished well again this week with a number of anglers reporting mixed bags to 70lb plus. With good numbers of tench and crucian showing, the week has seen some good bags of silver fish reported with some cracking big roach, rudd and perch included. With both the margins and pole line working, all methods are working including small feeders to the island. Whilst baits remain much the same as in previous weeks, hard drilled and soft pellet over small pellet continues to work well as does hair rigged pellet and mini boilies with maggot, caster, worm and corn are also catching.
This weeks catches
Mac Simmons had a good day in the week catching a good 50lb of tench, crucian, roach and rudd. Fishing a short pole to both the margins and pole line, Mac caught tench to 6lb and crucian to over 3lb on soft paste and pellet.
