WATER TEMPERATURES
A better week weather wise despite the odd heavy shower, as such water temperatures have increased slightly to 21.5 degree’s whilst oxygen levels have also generally crept up to 60%.
Outlook for the week ahead is also looking better with temperatures sitting around the high teens or early twenties, which should have a positive effect on the fishing.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
Generally a good week on all lakes, although the odd heavy shower did slow the fishing from time due to the huge influx of cold water. The Old Lake has again fished very well for general species such as tench and bream with some excellent catches reported by both bank and boat anglers.
The carp fishing has also picked up with a good number of multi bags reported from the Old Lake which included fish to high twenties whilst Temple has continued to throw up a few thirties along with quite a few twenties.
On the two smaller lakes, Milton has again fished the best this week with some excellent mixed catches reported. With tench and crucian making up the bulk of the catches, anglers have also been seeing some very good quality roach, rudd and perch caught.
Whilst Bonds has seen some good fishing reported, it has fished a little harder this week owing to the colder water influx, although anglers are still reporting nets to 70lb with the odd fish to 10lb plus.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
In brief, another cracking week on the Old Lake with good numbers of bream being caught as well as quite a few tench, with boat anglers finding some particularly good sport from the jungle areas. With all banks producing a few fish, the best of the fishing has been from the middle pegs along both the front and side banks with bags of bream to over 100lb being reported along with the odd larger bag.
A small feeder or cage feeder packed with halibut ground bait is still the top method with hair rigged or lassoed 8mm or 10mm pellet on a size 14 or 12 barbless hook. It is also important to ping in a few pellets around your feeder little and often as this does make a very big difference to the catches.
Boat anglers have also continued to see some good catches from the jungle with a number of anglers reporting some good tench bags topped by fish to 8lb. A few bream have also been caught along with the odd carp to mid doubles. With all areas fishing well, float fished pellet is again the most productive bait, either hair rigged or lassoed whilst mini boilies, maggot, corn and meat are also catching well.
This weeks catches
Simon Mills had a cracking day along the front bank mid week catching 26 bream to 6lb 9oz for a good ton up haul. Fishing a cage feeder 30mts out into 7’ water, Simon followed the ‘in method’ to the letter pinging 8mm carp pellets out little and often picking up bream in the 3lb to 5lb range steadily throughout the day. Simon also had a bonus fish, a 13lb 7oz mirror, which tore off 40mts of line in a good, fight that lasted 20 minutes.
Another angler to do well on the bream front was Dave Tilley, fishing a loaded waggler 5 rods out from peg 37, Dave fed caster and hemp fishing caster and worm on the hook. Dave ended his session with 18 bream, 3 tench and quite a few skimmers and roach.
On the boat front, Mark Thompson had a good day catching a dozen tench to 5lb from the jungle. Fishing a solid float rod with luncheon meat and corn on the hook, Mark fished the left hand margin catching steadily throughout the day.
Recent match weights have also been pretty good on the Old Lake and this week was no exception with last Sundays Medway Trotters match needing some good results in order to get into the money. With the bream dominating catches, Lee Perry won the day with 76lb 8oz from peg 2, second was Dave Churchway on peg 1 with 71lb 2oz whilst third was Steve Turner with 67lb 2oz and fourth Mark Hathaway with 59lb 2oz.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Another good week generally for the carpers, with both Temple and the Old Lake fishing pretty well. Temple saw another two thirties reported along with a good run of twenties whilst anglers on the Old Lake again saw some good multi bags with a few bigger fish also showing.
With both the road and back banks on Temple seeing some good fishing, the fish seem to be well spread out with the middle bank pegs probably fishing the best with a lot of fish coming from the island margins which is always a popular area to try. With two big thirty pound mirrors reported along with quite a few mid and upper twenties, baits again seem to be varied with both corn and boilies catching.
Whilst tactics and baits remain much the same as in previous weeks, corn continues to work well in various forms whilst Icelandic Red and Mainlines Supa Stench boilies have also accounted for fish this week, so it is definitely worth keeping an open mind regarding baits.
On the Old Lake, anglers have again seen some good multi catches reported with a few bigger fish also showing. Again there are no particular areas fishing better with all banks producing a few fish. Tactics and baits remain much the same as in previous weeks with Icelandic Red boilies continuing to take a lot of beating although Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies are also catching, as will most good quality bait. Popped up corn and pop ups are also worth a go!
This weeks catches
Ed Mason grabbed an overnighter on Temple midweek catching a stunning mirror weighing 31lb 8oz early morning. Fishing peg 4, Ed fished an HBS ‘Supa’ Stench boilie with a white pop up to the island margin feeding 150 freebies. Ed also caught a stunning 26lb linear on an earlier session to similar tactics.
Another angler to score on Temple this week was new member Kier Burwood who managed a 31lb 8oz mirror from peg 10. Kier fished popped up corn to the open water. Fishing with Kier was James Poole, who although unlucky not to grab a thirty, managed three fish during his first session on Temple. Fishing peg 11, James had mirrors weighing 26lb 6oz, 24lb 4oz and 21lb 7oz catching on Icelandic Reb boilies and corn. Another new member to catch on his first session was James Mogg, fishing peg 14, James caught a 29lb common on a maize pop up from the island margins.
Following his success last weekend when he caught 3 fish from peg 6 which included Temple’s Ghost weighing 34lb 2oz, Sean Howard managed another fish before the end of his session, this time a stunning mirror weighing 29lb 9oz. Down on weight through spawning, this normal thirty also fell to Sean’s popped up corn and was caught from peg 6.
Last but not least to catch on Temple this week was Robin Ellis who caught a stunning 24lb common from peg 4 on (no surprises) popped up corn.
The Old Lake also saw some reasonable catches this week with a number of anglers reporting multi bags of up to 10 fish which included a few better fish including a 29lb common and 27lb 5oz mirror. Robin King managed a new PB in the shape of stonking big common weighing 29lb. Fishing peg 2, Robin fished a Cell boilie to mid water over 20 or so freebies catching his fish at night along with a few smaller doubles.
Another angler to catch on the Old Lake was Bernard Tilley who managed 6 fish during his overnight session. Fishing peg 14, Bernard fished a 20mm Icelandic Red bait to the point of the island catching a cracking 25lb 4oz mirror along with a few mid doubles.
Old Lake regular Mark Savage also had a good session last week, although no big fish, Mark managed 7 fish to upper doubles, which he caught from peg 33 on a Shocker Rig with Pro Activ Pineapple boilies.
BONDS LAKE
Another mixed week on Bonds with the heavy rain affecting sport again this week although the better anglers still managed some reasonable catches with bags to 60lb reported.
With all methods working, feeder tactics continue to dominate the catches with pellet and mini boilies accounting for good numbers of fish to just shy of 10lb. The secret is to fish tight to the island margins pinging loose pellet out singularly all the time.
MILTON LAKE
This week saw yet more good catches on Milton with a number of anglers reporting mixed bags close to 80lb.
With tench and crucian continuing to show in good numbers, the silver fish were also very active this week with good numbers of roach and rudd being reported from all banks with catches coming from both the margins and pole and float line. With all methods working, baits remain much the same as in previous weeks with 8m or 10mm soft pellet over small pellet working well along with hair rigged pellet and mini boilies whilst maggot, caster, worm and corn are also catching.
This weeks catches
Roger Hill had a really good day in the week catching a real mixed bag of tench, crucian, roach, rudd and perch. Fishing peg 15, Roger fished a small waggler to the end of the reeds and fed small pellet little and often catching on 6mm pellet and a soft paste.
