2010 HUGE STOCKING PROGRAMME NOW COMPLETE!

This winter’s/spring huge stocking program is now complete following the full dredging of both Bonds and Milton Lakes. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen a large number of big tench stocked as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3500 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.

WATER TEMPERATURES

A bit of a mixed week, which saw water temperatures drop to 17.4 degree’s. However this has helped the fishing as oxygen levels settled around 75%.

Outlook for the week ahead is also looking good with temperatures sitting around the high teens although there remains the risk of the odd shower on Tuesday.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!

Following a week or so of mixed weather and a return to more settled cooler conditions, the fishing on all the lakes has bounced back following spawning with some good catches being reported on all lakes.

On the carp front, both Temple and the Old Lake have produced their fair share of catches with a number of thirties reported off Temple including a brace to one lucky angler whilst anglers on the Old Lake have seen some excellent multi bags of up to a dozen fish or so which included a few low twenties.

Both Bonds and Milton Lakes have also bounced back with some excellent catches reported from both lakes. Whilst Bonds Lake has seen a return to the good old days with anglers bagging plenty of carp to low doubles in nets to 150lb plus, Milton Lake has continued to produce some terrific mixed bags with tench and crucian making up the bulk of the catches.

Whilst the Old Lake did see a period of slower sport following spawning, the general bream and tench fishing has also bounced back with anglers reporting bags to well over 200lb in some cases. Boat sport has also seen a marked improvement with some excellent catches being reported.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Sport over the past week or so has improved with anglers bagging plenty of bream and quite a few tench as water temperatures fall back a bit and overall conditions improve.

With all banks fishing pretty well, the middle and end pegs on both the front and long banks are the areas to target with pole, float and feeder all catching on a variety of baits which included maggot, both banded, expander and soft pellet, corn and paste.

Boat anglers have also found some reasonable sport in the jungle with tench, carp and bream accounting for bags to 100lb.
This weeks catches…

Bury Hill regular Michael Head had a great days sport during the early part of last week bagging over 80 bream and 7 tench for well over 200lb. Fishing peg 3 along the front bank, Michael alternated between a 13m pole and open end feeder catching bream to 6lb and tench to 7lb on pellet and corn which he fished over loose pellet and a small amount of Swim Stim groundbait.

Another angler to do well this week was Simon Heath who bagged 54 bream to 5lb and 5 tench to 6lb 8oz in another 100lb plus haul. Choosing to fish peg 36 along the long bank, Simon fished a loaded waggler 5 rods out catching on 6mm soft pellet and corn over a loose bed of micro pellet which he fed little and often.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Another great start to the week with both Temple and the Old Lake producing some excellent sport, which included another run of thirties on Temple with two anglers reporting a brace of thirties each. In turn the Old Lake also saw some hectic carp sport with anglers reporting multi bags of up to 10 fish, which included the odd better fish to early twenties.

Whilst the fishing on Temple has switched between the road bank and back bank, this weeks catches were well spread out with fish being reported from both banks. With most good quality baits catching, this weeks catches seemed to be on both popped up corn and a variety of boilies with both shop baits and homemade accounting for fish.

PLEASE NOTE: WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLD LAKE. PLEASE SEE RUSS OR KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

The old lake also saw another good week with plenty of doubles and a few twenties reported with all areas accounting for a few fish. As has been the case for the past few weeks, the shallow and mid water swims continue to produce most of the fish whilst tactics and baits remaining much the same as in recent weeks with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go with pretty much any good bait working with old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 giving anglers the edge!
This weeks catches…

Following on from Ross Dickens cracking brace of Temple thirties last weekend, this week saw Paul Wyatt catch four cracking fish during his 72hour session, which also included a brace of thirties, a mirror weighing 35lb and a common weighing 34lb 12oz. Paul also had mirrors weighing 25lb 3oz and 23lb 6oz. Fishing peg 11, Paul fished a homemade boilie to the island margins with all his fish coming both early and late in the day.

Fishing with Paul was Craig Gillard who also managed a cracking thirty during his session, this time a 33lb 14oz mirror. Fishing next to Paul on swim 10, Craig also fished a homemade boilie to the island margins catching his fish late in the day.

Another Temple regular to catch a thirty this week was Roy Carslake who managed two mirrors, a pretty brace of mirrors weighing 34lb and 25lb 2oz. Fishing swim 4, Roy caught both his fish on a homemade boilie which he fished to the island margins.

Other anglers to catch on Temple this week were Keith Driver who managed a lovely 28lb common from swim 12, which he caught on a Cell boilie.

Jamie Campbell also caught a nice mirror during his session weighing 27lb on the nose. Jamie fished swim 2 catching on a Cell boilie wrapped in Cell paste.

Bury Hill bailiff James Kelly was another angler to do well this week catching a nice Temple mirror weighing 24lb 11oz. Fishing swim 14, James caught on a homemade 16mm boilie which he fished to the open water over a kilo of free offerings.

Turning to the Old Lake, Craig Pearman and Dan Skinner had a great 48-hour session catching 17 fish between them. Fishing peg 64, Craig led the duo catching 10 fish to 19lb 8oz from the open water on Cell and Rickworth XLR8 boilies whilst Dan managed 7 fish to 18lb on Cell boilies.

BONDS LAKE

Cooler weather certainly helped the fishing on Bonds with anglers finding some excellent sport from the many carp that are in the lake. With anglers bagging up to 30 fish or so a day, there has been some excellent weights reported topped by fish to low doubles.

With all methods working, the island margins continue to be one of the key areas to focus on although the bank margins and pole line are also accounting for a lot of fish with maggot and banded hard pellet being the key baits.
This weeks catches…

One angler to have a fantastic day on Bonds this week was Kevin Mills from Epsom. Fishing peg 4 along the road bank, Kevin fished the pole line catching 34 carp to 10lb on banded pellet up in the water spraying micro pellet little and often to keep the fish fizzing.

MILTON LAKE

No matter what the weather conditions, it seems that Milton continues to fish, with anglers bagging some terrific sport! The cooler weather we saw this week certainly aided the fishing with lots of anglers reporting good mixed nets, which included good numbers of crucian, tench, roach, rudd, perch and the odd bream.

With both pole and float tactics working well, both hard and soft pellet, paste and maggot have all been catching on both the pole line and margins.
This weeks catches…

Pete Dalglish from Ashford fished peg 1 in the week catching a bumper mixed bag which included 51 crucian, 5 tench, 3 bream and a couple of roach for close to 100lb. Pete caught on float fished 6mm soft pellet which he fished over loose pellet to the margins and open water.

Fishing with Pete was Mike Brett who also had a good days sport fishing peg 2. Fishing similar tactics with 4mm and 6mm hooker pellets being the top bait, Mike caught 28 crucian, 7 tench, 2 bream and a few roach for another great catch.

Opting to fish the pole on peg 28, Paul Garrett from Fleet alternated between paste and maggot catching 25 crucian to 2lb, a couple of tench and 20lb or so of roach. Whilst the crucian fell to paste fished on the bottom, the roach all come to maggot, fished up in the water.
