HUGE STOCKING PROGRAMME THIS WINTER!

The next few months will see major stockings taking place on all the lakes at Bury Hill. The Old Lake will receive some large tench as well as a good number of skimmers, whilst Milton Lake will see most of the carp removed (this has now been done) which will be replaced with tench as well as quality roach, rudd, perch and skimmers, all of which will come from Temple Lake. In addition, we have just purchased 3000 crucian for Milton, which will ensure the lake return to a tench, crucian and silver fishery. Bonds Lake will also see a further stocking of small carp from Milton (this stocking has now taken place with 400 fish being stocked) as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers from Temple Lake.

It is hoped that all of the above will be completed by the end of March.

WATER TEMPERATURES

Despite some pretty grim weather this week, which saw some extremely heavy rain, water temperatures increased to 5 degree’s, which is a sure sign that spring is on the way whilst oxygen levels remained high around 88%.

Outlook for the week ahead is very mixed with rain, but the good news is that temperatures are remaining un-seasonally high.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!

Despite the rain, the fishing has at last started to bounce with some excellent pike catches reported on the Old Lake with a few bream and skimmers showing to the general anglers. With colored water conditions, the odd zander is also starting to show helped by the increasing water temperatures.

The dredging work on Milton has now finished and this week saw the new stocking of crucian, tench, roach, rudd and bream completed. Although we have seen a few anglers fishing the lake the past couple of days, all have been reporting some terrific mixed catches.

Dredging work has now started on Bonds Lake and this lake will now be out of action for approximately one week.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – PIKE & ZANDER FISHING

Despite some pretty serious rain, we again saw some good catches of pike with anglers again reporting up to 6 fish bags. The increasing water temperatures has also prompted a few zander to start showing and with the mild weather continuing expect to see a few bigger fish reported as we head into March.

This week again saw a number of better fish caught which included fish weighing 18lb along with plenty of doubles. Both sea and freshwater baits have been catching equally well, although smaller baits continue to work best and particularly when fished with single hooks and light ledger rigs.

This weeks catches…

Lynne Tempest had a cracking day catching her biggest pike ever, a very fit 18lb’er. Fishing peg 4 along the front bank, Lynne caught her fish of a lifetime catching on a small ledgered roach. Husband Nick also managed a couple of fish during the afternoon.

Bury Hill regular Colin Allchin had another brilliant session this week catching six fish to 14lb 8oz, which brings the total number of doubles caught by Colin to 5 in the last few visits. Colin fished peg 27 along the long bank, Colin found the fish responded to smaller baits with both sea and freshwater baits catching with Lamprey working particularly well again this week. Colin’s fish this week weighed 14lb 8oz, 9lb 4oz, 8lb 12oz, 8lb 4oz and a brace of 7lb’ers.

Joseph Waldron aged just 13 had a good day catching a couple of pike, the best a 14lb 8oz specimen. Fishing peg 2, Joseph caught both his fish on small roach dead baits.

Rod Parker managed a pretty 10lb 9oz pike during his session this week. Rod fished a single hook set up catching on sprat.

Another young angler to do well this week was Josh Hiscock who is aged 11. Fishing with his father, Josh fished peg 31 catching 3 pike to 8lb on free-lined sprat, which he fished to the edge of the lilies.

Last weekend also saw the Southern Pike anglers open, which took place on the long bank. 9 pike in total were caught on the day, the best a 17lb’er which was caught by Eric Bailey who took top place. Steve Mable also did well with a fish weighing 15lb 8oz. All the fish were caught on ledgered roach sections.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

With water temperatures now increasing, anglers have been catching a few bream and skimmers and even the odd tench. Whilst all methods have been catching, pole and feeder seem to be the best tactics for the cold-water conditions with single red maggot and small pellet working best.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

A very quite week for the carpers with only a couple of brave soles out on the bank again this week. Saying that, a few fish are starting to show on the Old Lake with a couple of anglers reporting fish to mid doubles.

Temple Lake has been drained this week for its bi-annual sort out, the good news is that there are now 7 fish over 35lb with the two top fish both weighing over 37lb. All the fish are artificially at a low weight and with better weather now arriving expect to see all the fish start to pack on some weight.

BONDS LAKE

Bonds is currently being dredged this week.

MILTON LAKE

The dredging on Milton has now been completed and following the stocking of 3000 crucian (see picture), 400 tench and hundreds of quality roach, rudd, perch and bream this week, the early signs are looking very good with anglers already reporting bumper mixed catches.

Bait wise, things are now a lot finer with single red maggot and caster the best baits, although pellet and even corn are still catching. Chopped worm and Predator Plus additive is also worth a go!
