This winter’s huge stocking program is now complete. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen some cracking tench stocked from Temple Lake as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. In turn, following the recent dredging, Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3000 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.
WATER TEMPERATURES
Water temperatures increased again this week to 10 degree’s this week whilst oxygen levels remained high at 78%, both of which will have a positive effect on the fishing.
Outlook for the week ahead is a bit mixed, with a few colder nights and some rain early week.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
A brilliant week with plenty of fish showing on all the lakes.
With water temperatures continuing to rise, the Old Lake saw plenty of bream and skimmers caught as well as the odd tench with all banks producing a few fish. The carp fishing on the Old Lake also took a step forward this week with one angler bagging over 40 fish to 22lb in two short sessions.
However, the jewel in the crown this week was Milton Lake, which again saw some terrific fishing with mixed bags to well over 50lb reported which, included tench, crucian, roach, rudd, bream and perch. Bonds also bucked up this week following the dredging with anglers catching up to a dozen carp apiece to 8lb.
Following the capture of a cracking brace last week topped by a 35lb mirror, the fishing on Temple remains tough, but is expected to pick up any time now.
Picture shows a typical brace of Milton crucian caught by Keith Hampson as part of a 50lb catch.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
A much better week on the Old Lake this week with plenty of bream and skimmers showing from all banks with boat anglers also getting in on the action catching bream to 5lb and a few tench which included fish to 6lb from the jungle. With the middle pegs on both the front and long banks fishing particularly well, pole, waggler and feeder are all catching with bags to 60lb plus being reported.
With all methods working, red maggot and small pellet appear to be catching best, although as water temperatures continue to climb expect to see larger baits such as paste, corn and mini boilies also start to catch a few better fish.
This week catches…
Bury Hill regular Terry Hayes had a great day mid week despite the odd heavy shower catching 12 bream to 5lb 1oz and a load of skimmers for a good 60lb plus bag. Terry fished peg 32 catching on a waggler which he fished 5 rods out with double red maggot.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Following a cracking brace of Temple mirrors caught last week, this week has been quieter as we wait for water temperatures to hit the critical mark to trigger the fish into feeding. Regarding tactics and baits, it really is too early in the year to say what will and wont work, but any good quality boilie will catch, particularly when fished with corn and PVA bags.
Saying that, the carp on the Old Lake have started to feed more consistently with one angler bagging 40 plus fish in two short sessions which included a couple of early twenties to 23lb. Whilst the fish seem to be well spread out, surprisingly it was the deeper water pegs that produced the best of the fishing this week, although the middle and early pegs are certainly worth a go. Tactics and baits on the Old Lake remain much the same with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go.
Bait wise, pretty well any good bait will work although the old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 will all give you an edge! It is also worth trying one or two of the new boilies hitting the market and particularly the much talked about Marukyu bait range, which includes a new scientifically, produced range of boilies.
Boat anglers have also been catching a few carp from the jungle with standard boat tactics of float, boilies and large pellet working.
This week catches…
Kevin Duffell had a brilliant couple of sessions on the Old Lake this week catching 20 odd fish each time to 23lb. Fishing peg 24, Kevin caught most of his fish from the margins on big bunches of maggot which he fished with pva bags filled with pellet.
Another angler to catch a few fish on the Old Lake was Phil Hughes who managed three fish during his day session. Fishing peg 34, Phil fished Iceland Red boilies tight to the island catching two mirrors, the best 21lb and a 19lb common.
BONDS LAKE
With the dredging work now complete, anglers have started to catch reasonable numbers of fish on Bonds with both float and feeder tactics accounting for up to a dozen fish to 10lb. With both the island margins and pole line producing, maggot and pellet seem to be the best baits with open ground bait feeder also working.
This weeks catches…
Sean Taylor grabbed a quick day off mid-week catching 12 carp to 8lb. Fishing peg 3; Sean fished a short pole catching on double red maggot and pellet.
MILTON LAKE
A brilliant weeks fishing on Milton Lake with anglers of all levels reporting bags to 60lb plus. Following the removal of most of the carp, good numbers of tench and crucian are being caught along with terrific bags of roach, rudd, perch and bream.
With all areas producing a few fish, pole and float tactics are definitely the way to go with both pellet and maggot catching with both the pole line and margins all accounting for a few fish.
This weeks catches…
Keith Hampson enjoyed his best days fishing to date when he booked in with our Russ Evans for a coaching lesson on Milton Lake during the week. Adopting a sensitive waggler and maggot approach, Russ got Keith catching a good mix of species including two new pb's, a cracking 2lbs 4oz crucian carp and a 1lbs 5oz roach. Keith also caught some nice tench and rudd for a 45lb bag. Keith's breakdown for the four hour lesson was 13 crucian, 12 tench, 8 roach, 3 rudd and a perch plus a few that got away.

Last weeks Hackbridge match on Milton fished well with all anglers catching a few fish despite some pretty chilly wet weather conditions. Andy Ryan won the day from peg 1 with a 35lb bag of crucian, which he caught on pole, maggot and caster. Alan O’Brian was second with a 22lb mixed bag, which he caught from peg 25 on pellet.
