This winter’s huge stocking program is now complete. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen some cracking tench stocked from Temple Lake as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. In turn, following the recent dredging, Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3000 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.
WATER TEMPERATURES
The good news is that water temperatures have finally started to increase following a few days of better temperatures with water temperatures rising to 9.5 degree’s this morning, which is a full 4 degree’s up on last week. Oxygen levels have also increased following the heavy rain to 80%, which will also have a positive effect on the fishing.
Outlook for the week ahead is also looking a lot better with temperatures remaining up around the 10/12 degree’s with just the odd shower, so expect to see some great fishing and catches over the next week or so.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
Increasing water temperatures have certainly helped the fishing improve this week, and I am glad to say that this week the fishing has bounced into spring with some terrific early season catches reported from all lakes including Temple.
As expected, the Old Lake has seen some plenty of bream and skimmers showing from all banks with the odd bonus tench and even the odd big roach to 2lb plus and perch to 3lb in bags to 60lb plus.
Milton Lake has also seen some terrific fishing with mixed bags to well over 50lb being reported which includes tench and crucian, roach, rudd, bream and perch. With the dredging only just finished on Bonds, it is early days regarding the fishing, but a couple of anglers braving the rain Saturday did manage half a dozen carp each to 8lb.
The carp fishing has also seen a major improvement this week with anglers on the Old Lake catching a few fish to early twenties whilst Temple Lake finally saw its first carp of the year caught which was quickly followed by a plump thirty.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
A few degree’s increase in water temperature has certainly made a big difference to the fishing this week with good numbers of bream and skimmers starting to show on the Old Lake as well as the odd early season tench with one angler also catching a few big roach to 2lb and the odd perch close to 3lb in a bumper 50lb bag from the long bank.
With all methods working, red maggot and small pellet appear to be catching best, although as water temperatures continue to climb expect to see larger baits such as paste, corn and mini boilies also catch.
This week catches…
Steve Palham from Horley had a terrific day on the Old Lake mid week catching a good 50lb bag, which included 10 bream, roach to 2lb, perch to 2lb 14oz and a 4lb 8oz tench. Steve fished peg 38 catching on waggler and double red maggot feeding pellet and maggot.
Another angler to do well on the Old Lake this week was Paul Clark who fished peg 12 on the front bank catching a dozen bream to 4lb and three tench for close to 50lb. Paul fished a small ground bait feeder 30mts out also catching on double red maggot.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Well some good news on the carp front at last as both the Old Lake and Temple Lake start to produce a few fish, which included the first fish of the year off Temple, a cracking 27lb 6oz mirror which was quickly followed by a clonking 35lb mirror. The Old Lake also saw a few fish caught, which included a couple of fish nudging twenty pounds and a stunning mirror weighing 22lb.
The action on Temple this week has come from the middle of the back bank, although the fish are well spread throughout the lake, so don’t ignore all the likely areas. Regarding tactics and baits, it really is too early in the year to say what will and wont work, but any good quality boilie will catch, particularly when fished with corn and PVA bags, which must certainly be worth a go!
The Old Lake has also seen a some reasonable action this week, although the fish in the main have tended to be smaller than normal, although a couple of decent fish have been caught topped by a stunning 22lb mirror. With all areas producing the odd carp, the middle and early pegs on the front bank are certainly worth a go as are the middle pegs on long bank and the back of the island
Tactics and baits remain much the same with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go. Bait wise, pretty well any good bait will work although the old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 will all give you an edge!
Boat anglers have also been catching a few fish from the jungle with one angler catching 5 fish during a pretty hectic days sport.
This week catches…
Craig Hess was the angler to prize the first fish of the year from Temple, one of the big Italians weighing 27lb 6oz. Fishing swim 14 on the back bank, Craig positioned his baits on the island shelf catching on 12mm Active 8 boilies which he tipped with corn filling his PVA bag with small pellet and chopped boilies. Following this capture early week, Craig returned two days later to bag another Temple fish, this time a stunning 35lb mirror known as “Robin Hood”. This time Craig fished swim 13 whilst catching on similar tactics and bait to his earlier session.
Another angler to do well on the carp front this week was Paul Pitchley. Fishing peg 2 on the Old Lake, Paul fished Icelandic Red baits out to the far bank catching a stunning Old Lake Warrior in the shape of a 22lb scaled mirror. Paul also caught a couple of smaller fish around early doubles.
BONDS LAKE
The dredging on Bonds is now complete and although it has only been a couple of days since the dredging stopped, the few anglers who have fished the lake have caught a few fish. All methods and baits will work and it is with both pellet and maggot both worth a go!
MILTON LAKE
A cracking week on Milton with everyone catching a few fish and those who know what they are doing bagging some terrific mixed bags to 50lb plus which have included specimen roach, rudd, perch and crucian.
With fish being caught from all areas of the lake, pole and float tactics are definitely the way to go with both pellet and maggot catching with both the pole line and margins all accounting for a few fish.
This weeks catches…
Clive Elson had a great days sport early week catching 13 crucian to 2lb, 6 big roach to 1lb 4oz, 15 tench and 3 perch for a good 50lb. Clive fished peg 13 catching on float fished double maggot.
Another angler to have a good day on Milton was Michael Head. Fishing peg 20, Michael fished a 6m pole with 4mm pellet over micro pellet catching a 50lb bag of tench and crucian with the odd bream.
