2010 HUGE STOCKING PROGRAMME NOW COMPLETE!
2010’s huge stocking program is now complete following the complete dredging of both Bonds and Milton Lakes. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen a large number of big tench stocked as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3500 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.
WATER TEMPERATURES
Another cool week with a fair bit of rain has again meant that water temperatures have stayed around 18/20 degree’s mark while oxygen levels have increased to 70/80%, which is good for the time of year.
Outlook for the week ahead is a little better with bright sunny days forecast for the early part of the week, although there remains the chance of the odd shower.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
Generally a brilliant weeks fishing despite the heavy rain which filled all the lakes full up with fresh water pumping huge amounts of oxygen into the water which made for some great fishing.
The Old Lake again fished particularly well with big numbers of bream and tench being caught which again included a couple of monster bags weighing well over 200lb.
The two smaller lakes also responded to the influx of fresh water with anglers on Bonds again reporting nets of carp 100lb whilst Milton’s huge stocks of tench and crucian also responded with pleasure bags to 80lb and match weights close to 70lb reported. The silver fish in Milton also made a good showing in the week with roach and rudd to 2lb plus reported.
On the carp front, both Temple and the Old Lake saw the carp respond to the fresh water influx with a string of thirties and a number of good twenties reported off Temple whilst the Old Lake saw increased action in the shape of dozens of doubles and quite a few twenties.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
On a high following the massive fresh water influx we saw this week, the bream and tench in the Old Lake have been fizzing like mad which is always a sure sign that they have got their heads down in a feeding frenzy.
With all areas producing bumper catches, the fish remain well spread out with both the deep, mid and shallow water swims all producing some excellent catches with anglers sitting on the big shoals seeing some exceptional sport. Pole, float and feeder tactics all continue to account for a few fish, with pellet, paste and corn still the key baits.
Boat anglers have also seen some exceptional sport with the open water at the entrance to the jungle producing some big bags of bream with the odd tench also showing. Saying that, the jungle is also well worth a go particularly for the tench and the chance of a bonus carp or two. This weeks catches…
Having read last weeks report about Michael Head’s huge 300lb bag of bream, Gary Mills, a past regular at Bury Hill decided to pop down and target the bronze beauties himself. Choosing to fish peg 10 on the front bank, Gary was rewarded with a brilliant days sport catching 53 bream to 6lb from the 30mts mark. Fishing a small open feeder packed full of Swim Stim groundbait and pellet, Gary reckons that he had a good 200lb which include three cracking tench, all around the 5/6lb mark.
Lee Perry from Reigate also had a good day on the front bank catching 18 bream to 6lbs from peg 18. Fishing pole and feeder, Lee caught on corn and pellet on the pole and pellet on his groundbait feeder. Bury Hill match report news 22nd August 2010
Old Lake
There have been some really close matches of late on the Old Lake with the bream spreading themselves out across the match sections. Rhodruns held their latest club match on the front bank and although the weights were not massive compared to some of the recent pleasure catches reported, it was a very close affair with just 4lbs splitting the top 3 anglers. Top rod was John Adams who alternated between feeder and pole with pellet to keep a steady flow of fish coming in spells as the fish moved in and out of his peg. With 33lbs 12oz, which included fish up to 4lbs plus John, did just enough to pip his club mate Jason Luke who stuck to the pole and maggot approach. With smaller fish Jason including a few skimmers his weight of 30lbs 1oz helped him to some good club points with second place. Third place on the day went to Tim Robins who stuck with the groundbait feeder all match alternating his hook bait between corn and pellet.
Result:
1st John Adams 33lbs 12oz
2nd Jason Luke 30lbs 1oz
3rd Tim Robins 29lbs
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Both Temple and the Old Lake had a brilliant week with good numbers of carp being caught from both lakes following the week’s fresh water influx. With yet more thirties reported from Temple which included a few multi bag hauls of twenties, the Old Lake also responded to the increased oxygen levels with some brilliant catches reported, which again included quite a few twenties.
Whilst Temple has been a little up and down in recent weeks, the influx of fresh water prompted the fish to get their heads down with a number of anglers in the week reporting bags of up to 5 fish which included three more thirties. With all areas producing a few fish, the island margins continue to be the areas to target with most good boilies catching, although Cell boilies continue to do the business with PVA bags and pellet.
The carp in the Old Lake also responded to the pumped up oxygen conditions with anglers reporting catching good numbers of fish which again included a number of twenties. With all banks producing, the early pegs on the front bank and the island margins remained the key areas to target with running rigs and PVA bags clearly the way to go. With most good baits working well with old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 giving anglers the best chance of a few fish, precise baiting was the key to success again this week with pellet and loose boilies working best.
PLEASE NOTE: WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLD LAKE. PLEASE SEE RUSS OR KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS. This weeks catches…
Local boy Chris Porter had a brilliant day session on Temple catching a stonking mirror weighing 34lb. Fishing shallow water swim 1, Chris fished a homemade 18mm boilie to the island margins.
Another angler to get amongst the thirties this week was Nick Hunter who caught a lovely 32lb 8oz mirror as well as one of Temple’s smaller residents, an 18lb common. Fishing swim 9, Nick fished a Scopex Squid boilies to the corner of the pads where Nick had put a few free offerings
.
Brothers Lewis and Daniel Daneshi made up for lost time during their recent return to Temple catching a nice twenty each during their weekend session. Fishing swims 9 and 10, the brothers both fished Cell boilies over pellet to the pads with Lewis bagging a 28lb 10oz mirror whilst Daniel managed a 26lb mirror.
Temple regular Dave Povey also managed a couple of fish during his midweek session, a 26lb 8oz mirror and 23lb 8oz common. Fishing both swims 6 and 12, Dave caught on his favored Cell boilies, which he fished with pva bags of crushed boilies.
Fishing with Dave was Tony Watson who also managed to sneak a fish out, this time a 22lb mirror. Tony also caught on Cell baits from swim 5.
Temple regular Ray Harding managed 5 fish during his midweek session, which included a 26lb common and 24lb mirror. Ray fished the road bank catching on Cell boilies.
Other anglers to catch were Gus Steel who caught a 23lb 4oz mirror from swim 15 on Cell boilies and Sean Howard, who managed a 22lb 10oz mirror from swim 5, which fell to glugged corn.
Turning to the Old Lake, young Josh Catford caught two twenty pound commons from the long bank. Fishing 18mm boilies towards the island, 15-year-old Josh was delighted with his catch.
Simon Taylor had a good mid week session catching 11 carp to 22lb. Fishing peg 33, Simon fished 18mm Icelandic Red baits to the island margins catching steadily throughout his 24 hour session.
Matt Howe from Ruislip was also happy with his 5 fish bag, which included mirrors to 17lb 4oz. Matt fished peg 74 catching on 15mm Cell boilies which he fished to the mid water.
BONDS LAKE
Fizzed up with oxygen, Bonds responded like all the other lakes to the influx of fresh water producing some excellent weights throughout the week with bags of carp to well over 100lb reported, which included fish to 12lb. With all swims producing, a medium size groundbait feeder to the island margins remains the most productive method with pellet, corn and small boilies being the best baits. Saying that, both pole and float tactics are also accounting for good number of fish to low doubles with pellet and corn over pellet accounting for some good bags from both the pole line and margins.
This weeks catches…
Nick Mabbott from Banstead had a brilliant day on Bonds in the week catching 14 carp to 8lb 8oz. Fishing peg 4, Nick ledgered 11mm pellets to tight to the island for a good 80lb bag.
John Burke from Purley also had a good day on Bonds when he fished with his nephew. Fishing an open feeder and pellet also to the island, john caught 17 carp to 9lb from peg 16.
MILTON LAKE
Milton also saw a big increase in catches resulting from the huge water influx with good numbers of crucian showing from all areas in nets to 80lb. With tench and crucian still making up the bulk of the catches, Milton’s quality silver fish are also starting to show in better numbers which includes roach and rudd to over 2lb as well as the odd big perch. With pole and float tactics both working well, worm, pellet, paste and maggot all continue to catch with both the pole line and margins accounting for plenty of fish. This weeks catches…
Dean May had a good session on Milton in the week catching 30 odd crucian to 1lb 8oz, 7 tench to 4lb and quite a few roach to over a pound for a good 60lb bag. Dean fished peg 30 catching on soft pellet fished to the margins.
Milton Lake
The fish in Milton have settled right back down again after a few days of going all finicky due to the drop in air pressure and lower water temperatures, however in the latest Sportsman club match the crucians were back on the feed again as Richard Le Duc recorded an easy win with 66lbs from peg 27 with Richard reporting that nearly all of his fish were the lovely bars of gold that are the Crucian Carp. Fishing at 11 metres long and with 4mm expander pellets on a size 18’s hook, Richard fed 3mm Swim Stim pellets with a pinch of hemp and tiny balls of Special G groundbait via a cup to keep the hungry fish on the go throughout of this busy match.
Adam Tester on the next peg 26 had another brilliant day’s action with 48lbs 6oz catching all his fish on soft hooker pellets whilst feeding 4mm pellets over the top. His club mate Ricky White fished similar tactics on peg 24 to take third place with another good mixed bag weight of 39lbs 12oz.
In general it was a cracking match with the top 6 anglers all weighing in over 32lbs plus each, Milton has been in brilliant form this year and will continue to do so right through the winter months when the big bags of roach and perch take over the main action.
Result top 6
1st Richard Le Duc 66lbs
2nd Adam Tester 48lbs 6oz
3rd Ricky White 39lbs 12oz
4th Kevin Dowell 36lbs 14oz
5th Ron Short 36lbs 2oz
6th Paul Ward 32lbs 8oz
