WATER TEMPERATURES
A really great week weather wise with plenty of sun which pushed water temperatures up further to 16.7 degree’s, which is a 1.5 degree increase over last week. Oxygen levels have also increased slightly to 32%, which is about normal for the time of year. Outlook for the week ahead is superb with plenty of sun and temperatures sitting between 13 and 18 degree’s.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
A really good week on all the lakes helped by increasing water temperatures which are now close to 17 degree’s. As such, we are seeing the first signs of spawning, although this is not really affecting sport currently. However, please make sure that you handle all fish with great care.
As one would expect, the carp fishing has gone up another notch with fish galore showing on both the Old Lake and Temple which has produced 9 thirties over the weekend including a new lake record as well as a good number of twenties. The Old Lake has also seen some good action with multi bags of up to 20 fish reported which has again included a string of twenties.
Staying with the Old Lake, the general fishing has also been good again this week with good catches of tench and bream reported in nets to well over 100lb. Anglers are also still seeing a few quality roach, rudd and hybrids being caught as well as the odd bonus carp.
Turning to the two smaller lakes, Bonds Lake has again fished well this week with plenty of small carp showing in nets to 80lb plus whilst Milton Lake has seen plenty of tench and crucian being caught with some cracking silver fish also showing.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
Despite some of the bream spawning earlier in the week, general sport on the Old Lake has again been excellent with both bank and boat anglers reporting some really great fishing, particularly from the shallower water swims and the jungle.
As seen in recent weeks, good numbers of tench and bream continue to dominate catches with bags to well over 100lb reported again this week. With fish in 3lb to 5lb bracket making up the weights, anglers are seeing good numbers of larger fish in their catches with both tench and bream topping 7lb and even the odd fish 8lb.
As reported last week, boat anglers are also starting to see some tremendous sport from the jungle with tench dominating catches to well over 100lb, which includes a few bream and the odd carp.
With pole, float and feeder tactics all working, maggot, caster, worm and pellet are all catching well as are larger baits such as corn, meat and soft pellet so it is worth switching baits occasionally if you are looking to land the odd lump!
This weeks catches
Following his great days fishing last week, Colin Allchin returned this week to bag another 80lb from the Old Lake. Fishing peg 32, Colin fished similar tactics to last week i.e. waggler over depth, lose feeding a mixture of pellets, corn, hemp and maggots and ringing the hook bait changes to keep catching to catch 8 tench, the best 6lb 10oz and 15 bream to 5lb 4oz. Colin commented, a good catch despite the overnight ground frost and heavy rain the previous day which must have knocked the water temperatures a bit.
Whilst pleasure anglers have enjoyed some great sport these past few weeks, match anglers have also seen some good catches. Medway Trotters fished the Old Lake last week with all anglers enjoying some great sport. Fishing the front bank, Glen Holman won the day with a well-deserved 54lb 2oz of bream. Glen fished peg 6 catching on a small open-end feeder and pellet. Second was Mark Hathaway with 42lb 12oz. Mark fished peg 10 catching 8 tench and 5 bream from the margins on pellet. Third was Ken Bates with 28lb 6oz of feeder caught bream from peg 9.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
9 thirties topped by a new lake record see’s another superb week on Temple Lake whilst the Old Lake has again seen loads of doubles along with quite few twenties.
With increasing water temperatures clearly helping sport, it was Temple where the action really exploded this week with 9 thirties banked over the weekend as well as a dozen or so twenties. With water temperatures now topping 16 degree’s, the fish appear to be well spread around the lake with all banks throwing up a few fish with both the margins and mid water sections fishing well although the back bank was certainly seeing some incredible action. Regarding baits on Temple, these again appear to be very varied with most good quality baits working along with pop up’s and glugged corn, however “thinking out of the box” is always important, so do not be afraid to try something different. Another secret on Temple is to look for signs of fish moving as putting a bait on them can often lead to a quick take.
Whilst Temple takes all the limelight for its big fish, the Old Lake has also fished well this week with dozens and dozens of carp caught. Whilst these average mid to upper doubles, the week has again seen a number of twenties reported topped by cracking 27lb common. Regarding baits on the Old Lake, whilst all good boilies will work, Icelandic Red, Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies are all worth a try as are the new Cotswold baits and the new Terry Hearn Red Fish boilies and Dynamites Spicy Tuna & Sweet Chilli boilies. The odd fish is also coming out on fake corn and pop ups.

Bagging a NEW TEMPLE RECORD, Temple guru Sean Howard had another brilliant session over the weekend catching a three thirties and two twenties with the three thirties coming in just 6 hours. Fishing swim 13, Sean fished his trademark glugged corn to the island margins catching mirrors weighing 38lb 7oz, 31lb 10oz and 30lb 8oz as well 27lb 8oz and a 26lb common.
A very happy Steve Puplett led the catches on Temple for a while over the weekend catching 3 stunning fish, two mirrors weighing 26lb 4oz and 29lb and a stunning mint 36lb common, which is at a record weight. Steve fished boilies over pellet with a stick mix in a pva bag catching from swim 13 close to the island margins.
Another angler to catch a stunning thirty on Temple this week was regular Matt Plank who managed a 35lb 4oz mirror. Fishing swim 13, Matt was fishing a double popped up glugged corn with a stick mix attached. With the wind blowing hard into the corner, Matt cast to showing fish, which prompted a solid take also loosing a fish a few minutes later. Matt commented; I caught the 35lb 4oz Mirror after a fantastic hard fight which has upped my P.B by 1lb 7oz, well chuffed. Incidentally my P.B was also caught at Temple last May at 33.14lb the Italian!
Another angler to score a well-deserved brace on Temple this weekend (although he is still has 24 hours to go) was Neil Malcomson who having struggled this year managed a brace of mirrors weighing 33lb 1oz and 24lb. Fishing swim 5, Neil caught on a Chocolate Malt boilie which he fished to the island margins.
Another angler catching well on Temple in recent weeks is Stuart Mountjoy. Fishing swim 10, Stuart fished corn over hemp and pellet catching 7 mirrors part way into his session which included fish weighing 19lb, 25lb 4oz, 26lb 2oz, 27lb 8oz, 28lb, 28lb 12oz and 31lb 8oz.
Andrew Kelly also managed to find a thirty during his session, this time a 30lb 15oz mirror. Andrew fished peg 1 catching from the open water on boilie over hemp.
Another angler to do well on Temple this week was regular Clayton Baker who caught a 29lb 1oz mirror and a stunning 27lb common. Fishing swim 8, Clayton fished his pineapple boilies to the island margins.
Turning to the Old Lake, Steve Perrett had a good session banking a 22lb mirror, which he caught on a Cell boilie fished to the open water in front of peg 24. Colin Martin also did well catching 4 fish to 23lb. Fishing peg 11, Colin caught two mirrors weighing 23lb 1oz and 21lb 10oz as well a brace of commons both around 18lb. Colin fished Icelandic Red baits to the point of the island over free offerings. Catching a big multi bag, Steve Mann had a blinding session bagging 16 fish to 20lb 4oz. Fishing the end of the front bank, Steve’s best fish was a 20lb 4oz mirror whilst most of his fish weighed between 15lb and 19lb, all fell to KG1 baits over pellet.
BONDS LAKE
Responding to the increase in water temperatures, Bonds fished very well this week with nets close to 100lb reported by a number of anglers. With the fish well spread, all banks have been fishing well with float and feeder tactics working equally well. Whilst most bait are working, maggot and soft pellet are all catching as are mini boilies, corn and paste baits.
This weeks catches
Paul Hill had a great session in the week catching 16 carp to 8lb for a good ton up haul. Paul fished large soft pellet over loose fed pellet catching on a waggler 3 rods out.
MILTON LAKE
Milton also fished well this week with plenty of tench and crucian showing along with good numbers of roach, rudd and perch. With all methods working, the best of the action has been coming to pole and float tactics with maggot, caster and worm all catching, with pellet, paste and corn taking the better fish.
This weeks catches
Pat Heyworth from Hampton fished peg 22 catching 10 tench to 4lb 4oz, a couple of carp and a good bag of bits for a good 60lb plus. Pat fished a feeder with double maggot and ground bait. Another angler to catch well this week was John!, fishing the twenties, John caught a dozen or so tench, a few crucian and bits for a good 60lb. All of John’s fish came to pole and pellet tactics.
