HUGE STOCKING PROGRAMME NOW COMPLETE!

This winter’s huge stocking program is now complete. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen some cracking tench stocked from Temple Lake as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. In turn, following the recent dredging, Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3000 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.

WATER TEMPERATURES

Following a pretty wet cold week, it was no surprise to see water temperatures come under pressure although amazingly we only saw a small drop of 0.5 on the week to 9.5 degree’s. Not surprisingly, oxygen levels remained high at around 75%.

Outlook for the week ahead is still a bit mixed with some rain forecast.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!

A much better week weather wise with the fishing responding accordingly, which included some very good catches from all the lakes.

Whilst the bream and skimmers continue to dominate the catches on the Old Lake, there were a few more tench caught this week by both bank and boat anglers, which is always a sure sign that spring has arrived. The carp fishing also continued to improve with quite a few bigger carp showing to 26lb in multi bags of 20 plus fish.

Temple Lake also saw its first run of spring fish which included quite a few twenties and a couple of thirties.

The two smaller lakes also saw a marked improvement in sport with both lakes fishing well. Whilst Milton continued to see mixed bags to 80lb reported which included plenty of tench and crucian, Bonds certainly saw an increase in sport with anglers reporting some good catches generally with the odd angler bagging 20 or so fish for close to 100lb.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

A much better week weather wise with the fishing responding accordingly. Whilst the week saw plenty of bream and skimmers caught in nets to 100lb, there was a marked increase in the number of tench showing with anglers reporting up to 6 fish.

With all banks producing a few fish, the front and long banks continued to produce the best of the weeks sport with the mid water pegs probably fishing the best, although as water temperatures increase the early pegs will be worth a go!

With bags to 100lb reported this week, most methods are working with pole, waggler and feeder all catching given the right swim. Saying that, ground bait feeder and soft pellet is definitely worth a go! Bait wise, red maggot and pellet continue to be the best baits although as water temperatures continue to increase, larger baits such as paste, corn and mini boilies are starting to catch a few better fish.
This week catches…

Philip Mann had a brilliant day along the long bank when he fished a loaded waggler 6 rods out catching 20 or so bream, 5 tench and plenty of skimmers and roach for well over 100lb. Philip caught all his fish on 6mm pellet fished just on bottom feeding loose pellet little and often.

Recent matches on Bury Hill have also been pretty good with last weeks Hackbridge AC match seeing some excellent sport. Pegged along the front bank and early pegs on the long bank, it was the front bank pegs that dominated sport with Dave Johnson winning the day from shallow water peg 1 bagging 75lb of bream and skimmers, which he caught on the tip fishing corn and pellet. Second place switched to the middle of the bank where Neil Jaks weighed in 48lb 12oz of bream and skimmers, which he caught on pole and pellet. Just to keep things even, third place went to Andy Ryan who was pegged at the other end of the bank on peg 19. Fishing the tip and pellet, Andy weighed in 39lb 10oz of bream and skimmers.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

The carp fishing also responded to the better weather this week with both the Old Lake and Temple Lake producing some excellent sport with multi-bags of up to 20 fish reported from the Old Lake which included fish to 26lb with quite a few twenties and a couple of thirties reported from Temple.

Whilst sport on Temple these past few weeks has been pretty hard owing to the colder than normal weather, the past week has seen quite a few fish caught which included a couple of stunning thirties including the best fish of the year so far, a cracking 36lb mirror.

Regarding areas and baits, the fish are well spread with areas being pretty varied with a good number of the fish coming from the road bank swims, although the most recent catches did see the back bank producing a few fish. Bait wise, pretty much anything is working with boilies, pop ups and corn all accounting for a fish or two.

Turning to the Old Lake, we again saw a good number of fish caught this week with quite a few better sized fish reported which included a number of twenties topped by a 26lb mirror. Whilst the fish remain well spread out, it was the shallow and mid water swims which produced the best of the fishing.

Tactics and baits on the Old Lake remain much the same as in recent weeks with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go. Bait wise, pretty well any good bait will work at the present time although the old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 will all give you an edge! It is also worth trying one or two of the new boilies hitting the market and particularly the much talked about Marukyu bait range, which includes a new scientifically, produced range of boilies which a few anglers have been catching on.

As reported last week, boat anglers have also been catching a few carp from the jungle with standard boat tactics of float, boilies and large pellet working. Although nothing huge, anglers have been catching up to 8 fish a day, the best upper doubles.

This week catches…

Following a very tough few weeks on Temple as we headed out of winter, the last week or so has seen a steady run of fish reported which included a number of thirties topped by Craig Pearman’s cracking 36lb mirror which he caught this week. Fishing road bank swim 6, Craig fished a 5 Star Baits hi-vis multi coloured pop up to the island margins catching his first Temple thirty and the biggest fish so far this year around midday.

Another angler to do well on Temple this week was Guy Penn who was also fishing his first session on Temple since joining. Fishing swim 7 on the road bank, Guy fished a Tasty Baits 14mm single boilie to the island margins catching a lovely 31lb mirror, which was also a new PB for Guy.

With a run of twenties reported from Temple in recent days following the improvement in the weather, Russell Atkins caught a lovely 29lb mirror on Cell boilies and paste. Fishing swim 11, Paul Wyatt also caught during his session, this time a 24lb mirror, which fell to a homemade hand rolled bait, which Paul fished to the island margins. Ross Dickens from Morden Surrey caught his first Temple carp this week, a 23lb 4oz mirror, see picture below, which he caught from swim 2 on a maize pop up.

Other anglers to catch from Temple this week were Craig Gillard who was fishing his first session on Temple, fishing swim 10, Craig caught a 23lb mirror on triple plastic corn fished over pellet. Another angler to catch was Kevin Galliers who caught a 22lb 2oz common from swim 8. Fishing Cell boilies, Kevin caught from the island margins.

The Old Lake has also seen its fair share of action this week, which included a run of bigger fish to mid twenties as well as some nice fish caught from the jungle.

Old Lake regular Mark Savage fished swim 24 catching 5 fish which included a 21lb 3oz common. Fishing a homemade boilie and stringer, Mark caught from the open water catching a mix of commons and mirrors. Mark Fenner from Croydon also had a good session catching 3 carp from peg 36 to 21lb 2oz. Mark caught on an MGM boilie.

Grabbing a quick hours fishing during his lunch break, Lee Bacon might not have caught the biggest fish of the week, but he certainly caught one of the prettiest, a stunning 13lb 8oz Old Lake mirror which he caught on an Icelandic Red boilie.

Renowned for our boat fishing which often produces some big catches of doubles in the early spring and summer, with the odd twenty and even thirty possible. Again the recent improvement in the weather has seen the fish start to stir in the jungle area with anglers starting to catch good numbers of carp along with a few decent tench to 8lb.

One angler who had a great day fishing the jungle from a boat was Shane Chapman. Fishing float fished pellet, Shane caught 7 fish to 16lb in a hectic few hours (7lb, 3x10lb, 11lb, 12lb and a 16lb mirror).

With temperatures set to rise further and with a good spell of prolonged weather forecast over the next week or so, expect to see the fishing improve further and some big fish reported.

BONDS LAKE

Following the dredging work, Bonds is now settling down with anglers starting to catch reasonable numbers of fish with both float and feeder tactics accounting for up to a dozen or so fish to 10lb. With both the island margins and pole line producing, maggot and pellet seem to be the best baits with open feeder also working.
This weeks catches…

Henry Mills had a good day on Bonds catching 14 carp to 9lb. Fishing peg 7, Henry fished a small feeder to the island catching on double maggot.

Tommy Hall also had a good day catching a new PB in the shape of a 10lb 1oz common. Fishing eg 20, Tommy also caught on a maggot feeder from the island margins.

MILTON LAKE

Anglers fishing Milton had another good week bagging mixed bags of tench and crucian and quality roach, rudd, perch and bream to 100lb. With all areas producing a few fish, pole and float tactics are definitely the way to go with both pellet and maggot catching with both the pole line and margins accounting for a few fish.
This weeks catches…

Bradley Gibbons aged 12 is always pleased when his Dad John books him in for a coaching lesson with our tackle shop manager Russ Evans as it always guarantees a successful day's action. Fishing the pole on Milton lake and demonstrating how to catch finicky feeders like crucians and tench using light tackle and correct feeding, Bradley had his best day ever catching a net full of tench, crucian and silvers on maggot and pellet. With crucians up to 2lbs, tench from 3-4lbs and some quality roach and rudd plus the odd bream and carp young Bradley's total was impressive to say the least finishing his day with 39 crucians, 18 tench, 1 skimmer, 3 roach, 3 rudd and 1 carp which overall totaled around 100lb. Well done Bradley.

Another young angler to catch on Milton was 15 year old Nick Gidley from Ewell, Surrey. Fishing peg 1, nick fished waggler and maggot catching a 20 fish mixed bag which included perch to 3lb 5oz.
