WATER TEMPERATURES
Following a week of hot intense weather which saw temperatures hit the early thirties, this week saw the weather come back with a BANG with temperatures dropping back to the late teens early twenties and heavy thundery showers pushing water temperatures backwards.
Water temperatures dropped by nearly 4 degree’s in the week to 19.2 degree’s whilst oxygen levels soared to 76%, which will make for some great fishing.
Outlook for the week ahead is similar to this week with temperatures sitting around the high teens or early twenties and whilst there will be plenty of sun there is the chance of the odd shower pretty much any time.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
As water temperatures dropped back and cooler weather took control, the fishing bounced back with all lakes fishing well as the week wore on.
The Old Lake saw plenty of carp action with a number of anglers reporting multi bags of up 15 fish in a session whilst Temple also saw some great sport with a number of anglers reporting up to 5 fish hauls which included a number of thirties.
The general fishing on the Old Lake has also been very good this week with plenty of bream and good numbers of tench showing from all areas, whilst boat anglers have also experienced some excellent fishing from the jungle with good-sized tench, carp and bream making up the catches.
Whilst we did have some low oxygen issues on Milton at the start of the week, things are now back to normal and both Bonds and Milton have fished well this week particularly from mid week on with tench and crucian showing particularly well.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS CURRENTLY A LIMIT ON THE AMOUNT OF GROUNDBAIT YOU CAN USE ON THE OLD LAKE, PLEASE ASK IN THE SHOP FOR DETAILS.
With water temperatures dropping back to the late teens, the fishing responded well with good numbers of tench and bream being caught from pretty well all around the lake as well as some good sized carp.
With both pole, float and feeder tactics working well, the feeder is probably the top method right now with 8mm pellets over a few loose fed baits flicked in every minute or so taking a lot of the fish. However mini boilies, maggot and corn are also worth a go.
This weeks catches
Fishing a short session Sunday morning, Mike Head had a cracking session bagging 35 bream to 6lbs plus a bonus 15lb mirror carp. Fishing an open-end feeder to the open water from peg 14, Mike fished 8mm hard pellets and 8mm fishmeal boilies over Swim Stim ground bait.
Philip Miles had an excellent day mid week catching 30 odd bream to 5lb as well as plenty of skimmers for a good ton up haul. Fishing the long bank, Philip fished a small feeder half way to the island catching on a 8mm pellet. Packing his feeder with Halibut ground bait, Philip flicked a single pellet out every 30 seconds or so along with the odd mini boilie catching steadily throughout the day.
Another angler to do well this week was Stuart Peters, fishing the jungle from a boat, Stuart caught well from the off catching tench to 6lb, bream to 5lb and 3 carp all around the 12/14lb mark. Stuart caught all his fish from the margins on corn and pellet feeding small pellet and mashed corn.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Well what a turn around this week has seen, following a couple of tough weeks on the carp front, this week saw some incredible catches from both Temple and the Old Lake with anglers on both lakes reporting multi bags.
On Temple a number of anglers reported multi bags of up to 5 fish which included a number of thirties, the best a cracking common weighing 33lb 13oz.
With the fish well spread, it was interesting to see the shallow water areas fishing particularly well with both the road and back banks seeing some good catches with the margins fishing particularly well. Tactics and baits remain much the same as in previous weeks with boilies and popped up corn both working well.
The Old Lake also saw some good multi catches reported this week with a number of anglers reporting up to 15 fish a session. With most of the fish mid to upper doubles, the odd twenty has been reported. Not surprisingly, the shallow water seems to be producing a lot of the action with both the bank and island margins both producing a few fish.
Bait wise, Icelandic Red boilies are still taking a lot of beating although most good quality baits will catch with Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies all worth a try. Popped up glugged corn is also a good bait currently.
This weeks catches
Top fish on Temple this week was a cracking 33lb 13oz common, which was caught by Tony Watson. Fishing swim 1, Tony fished a fishmeal boilie to the island margins bagging the big common, which was a new PB for Tony.
Temple regular David Povey was another angler to do well on Temple this week catching three fish, which included a 32lb 10oz mirror. Fishing swim 13, David fished boilies to the island margins with a handful of loose baits over each of his baits catching two mirrors weighing 32lb 10oz and 24lb 6oz and a stunning common which weighed 22lb 1oz.
Another angler to score on Temple this week was Jamie Campbell who, following 15 blanks hit the jackpot this weekend catching 5 fish, which included two new PB’s, the best a 30lb 8oz linear. Fishing swim 5, Jamie from Bookham Surrey fished a Mainline Cell boilie to the margins between the islands baiting his swim with a few free offerings over hemp and pellet. Understandably, Jamie was delighted with his bumper catch which included three Linear’s weighing 30lb 8oz, 27lb 4oz and 20lb 6oz and two common’s weighing 22lb and 27lb 4oz.
Another angler to bag five fish during his session was Stuart Mountjoy who also bucked the trend catching on boilies. Fishing swim 10, Stuart fished 12mm Red Fish boilies to the mid water catching three of his fish on a 2’ zig rig with the other two coming at night. Stuart also caught 3 mirrors’, which weighed 27lb 2oz, 26lb 3oz and 17lb and two commons, which weighed 31lb 4oz and 21lb.
Turning to the Old Lake, whilst the bigger fish are still a little scarce at present, the numbers of doubles being reported are more than making up the action as Steven Spear found out during a hectic 36hour session. Fishing peg 18, Steven caught 11 fish to 18lb the first night on Scopex Squid and Red Robin baits which he fished with pva bags half way out to the island. Stephens second night was also hectic despite changing baits to Fusion boilies with a further 8 fish reported to 17lb.
Another angler to find the action was Rod Stewart from Mitcham, Surrey. Fishing peg 74, Rod caught 10 fish to just over 20lb on Cell boilies and plastic corn. Mark Gibson also scored on the Old Lake catching a 21lb mirror on boilies from the long bank.
BONDS LAKE
Whilst Bonds fished reasonably well throughout the hot weather this week saw the fishing pick up no end with a number of ton up hauls reported. With all methods working well, it was feeder tactics that took the better catches with pellet and mini boilies accounting for most of the fish. Saying that, both pole and float tactics are also working and with the fish up in the water with pellet, maggot and corn also working.
This weeks catches
Bury Hill’s Tackle shop manager Russ Evans had a good day on Bonds Lake during the week, despite all the thunder and heavy rain, when filming in front of the Sky Sports cameras. Fishing from peg 10, Russ landed 34 carp in a six-hour session using hair rigged 8mm carp pellet and a small cage feeder cast to the point of the island. To keep the carp interested Russ catapulted out single 8mm pellets over the top and with his fish averaging 5lbs, plus a few in the 8lbs bracket, his total was well over the ton mark.
MILTON LAKE
Following a few days, which saw low oxygen levels at the start of the week, Milton was back to normal by midweek and has fished very well since with anglers reporting mixed bags to 50lb. With the margins fishing particularly well, both pole and float tactics have been working well with the best of the fishing coming from the 20’s and back bank. Best baits seem to be large 8m or 10mm soft pellet over small pellet along with mini boilies, although maggot, caster, worm and corn are also catching.
This weeks catches
Clive Watson had a good day on Friday catching a 50lb bag of tench and crucian along with a few quality roach, rudd and perch. Fishing peg 15, Clive fished a long pole catching steadily throughout the day on corn, pellet and caster.
