The fishery currently opens at around 7.00am weekdays and 5.30am weekends and bank holidays. Current closing time is approximately 9.15pm. Boats in by 8.30pm sharp please.
TACKLE & BAIT SHOP OPEN 7 DAYS A WEEK!
Open 7 days a week, 363 days a year, when you need it!
This springs huge stocking program is now complete following the full dredging of both Bonds and Milton Lakes. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen a large number of big tench stocked as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3500 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.
WATER TEMPERATURES
A much cooler week with some heavy showers at times, which saw water temperatures drop significantly during the early part of the week before settling around the early twenties. Oxygen levels have also been a bit up and down, although these have now settled with morning recordings around 40/50%, which is normal for this time of year.
Outlook for the week ahead is staying cooler with temperatures hitting the mid twenties at best; there is also the chance of the odd shower, so brilliant fishing weather for the time of year!
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
The cooler weather has prompted some brilliant fishing this week with anglers reporting some great catches on all the lakes. Indeed, we have so many catch reports that there are simply too many to include!
Pleasure anglers targeting the bream and tench on the Old Lake were in for a surprise this week with individual fish to 7lb reported in bags to well over 200lb, although general weights were closer to 50lb. With all methods and baits working, this week’s open was won with 63lb with a number of weights topping the 50lb mark.
Milton and Bonds Lakes also responded to the cooler weather conditions with anglers of all abilities reporting good catches. On Milton, it was the crucian and tench that again showed in good numbers, with anglers also reporting some huge roach to 2lb plus and bream and rudd in nets to 100lb.
Bonds also fished well this week with everyone reporting a few fish whilst the better anglers were reporting weights well over 100lb, indeed it took 111lb to win last weeks match!
The carp fishing also picked up this week with both Temple and the Old Lake seeing some good catches which included yet more thirties on Temple and some cracking mid twenties from the Old Lake.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
Following weeks of hot weather, the arrival of cooler conditions saw the bream and tench go on a feeding frenzy with anglers reporting some of the best catches of the year with one angler bagging 75 bream for well over 250lb, indeed, this weeks open saw nets to 63lb.
With fish showing throughout the day, all areas have fished well with the middle pegs on both the front and long banks fishing particularly well. With all methods working well, pole, float and feeder have all accounted for some big weights with a variety of baits working, although pellet and corn do seem to be the top baits right now.
Boat anglers have also enjoyed some excellent sport with jungle still producing good numbers of tench and bream as well as the odd carp with anglers reporting bags to 80lb using float tactics.
This weeks catches…
Mike Head from Reigate had yet another brilliant days fishing for the bream on the front bank catching 75 bream and 1 tench from peg 12 mainly on the pole at 12 metres. With 6mm soft pellet on the hook over small balls of swimstim green groundbait, Mike kept the bream coming throughout his session and with fish to over 5lb, estimated his catch to be over 250lbs, which also included a few fish on the groundbait feeder.
With the Bury Hill midweek opens about to start, father and son David and Steven Walker from Horley in Surrey decided to get in some pre-match practice on the long bank fishing pegs 40 and 41. With both fishing the pole at 14 metres and using either corn or pellet on the hook over a bed of feed pellets, both anglers enjoyed a combined 38 bream haul during a short session, with fish to 5lbs, although the average was just over 3lbs.
Regular Dave Ewing from Guildford had another busy day in the week. Fishing peg 28 on the long bank, Dave caught 22 bream to 4lbs on the waggler fishing off the bottom at half depth catching all of his fish on halibut pellet feeding 6mm pellets.
Following some advice from Russ in the tackle shop, Chris Gadstone from Cowley, Uxbridge went in search for some tincas. Opting to fish peg 1 near the jungle, Chris caught 14 tench up to 5lbs. Helped by the overcast weather and a nice breeze, Chris kept the tench coming to just past midday when finally a shoal of bream joined the action. Fishing a small float ledger cast underarm towards the tree snags, Chris caught all of his fish on expander pellets on a size 16’s hook feeding 6mm pellet. Catching as many bream as tench, Chris’s final weight exceeded well over 80lbs, giving him a great days sport.
Bury Hill’s midweek open 14th July 2010
Harrison leads the way in close finish!
The fishery held is first midweek open match of the summer last week on the Old Lake and with a turnout of 23, most of the Long Bank was put into action. As the match unfolded it was clear that the bream were shoaled up in pockets around the match section and whilst some anglers struggled, plenty were catching well including Dave Walker on peg 51 who netted 9 fish in the first hour to take a early lead. Geoff Vallence was also doing well from peg 26 netting plenty of decent bream and skimmers on the pole line at 13 metres, whilst on noted peg 37, Terry Harrison was catching the odd big bream on the feeder fishing close to the island. Steve Gardner on peg 41 was fishing a long pole and catching the odd fish to keep in contention, but in general the first hour or two was slow for most of the field.
On peg 51 Dave Walker found his peg slowing up but with tench, bream and two big crucians in the net, he was still having a good day and finished up with 47lbs 9oz for sixth place overall. Robbie Taylor on peg 44 was catching his fish in bursts on the feeder but still managed to weigh in 49lbs 4oz for fifth place and some section money in the process. Tony Bartholomew found himself on peg 30 and caught steadily throughout the match. Fishing hair rigged corn on the feeder; Tony put a well-deserved 53lbs 2oz on the scales for fourth spot.
End peg 26 for Geoff Vallence carried on producing including an 8lbs zander which did not count, however numerous bream and skimmers on pole and pellet gained Geoff third place with 58lbs 6oz.
England international Steve Gardner managed to keep the bream coming in fast bursts of action on the pole and pellet cupping out small morsels of soft feed pellet and a light fluffy ground bait mix, however Steve just fell short of winning, with a respectable 60lbs 12oz.
Terry Harrison on peg 37 may not have had huge numbers of bream in front of him, but he certainly had quality as his bream were all around the 6lbs mark to record a good win with 63lbs. Using pellet through his feeder with either corn or pellet hair rigged, Terry was casting close to the island in search for better stamped bream.
In general it was a good match with a quality field and although the pegs in the mid 40’s did not sparkle, for most the fish were in a feeding mood despite a brisk wind blowing down the lake towards the front bank. Bream dominated this silvers only match, but there was also a good scattering of tench in the weights plus the odd big crucian as well. The next open will be on the front bank on Wednesday 28th July, draw at 8.30am fish 10-3pm, to book in call Russ or Ken in the shop.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
In keeping with the general catches on all lakes this week, both Temple and the Old Lake fished pretty well with further thirties reported from Temple and some reasonable multi bags from the Old Lake which included a few bigger fish to 26lb.
Whilst the fish remain well spread out on Temple, the fish seem to have settled around the mid water pegs along each bank. With most baits working, there definitely seems to be a lot more fish being caught on boilies with Cell boilies seemingly catching very well. Pop ups, zig rigs and popped up corn also continue to account for the odd fish.
PLEASE NOTE: WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLD LAKE. PLEASE SEE RUSS OR KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
The Old Lake has also seen an increase in action this week with anglers reporting multi bags of up 10 fish, which again included the odd the better fish to 26lb. With most areas producing the odd fish, the early pegs on the front bank and middle to top pegs on the long bank are all worth a go!
Regarding methods and baits, PVA bags are clearly the way to go with pretty much any good bait working with old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 giving anglers the edge!
This weeks catches…
Temple regular Rob Savage did well to catch another thirty this week, this time a 32lb mirror which fell to a Cell boilie which Rob fished to the island margins from road bank swim 6.
Another Temple angler to catch was Mark Savage who managed a 28lb 30oz mirror. Having moved from swim 12 to fish swim 15, Mark fished a Maple Eight boilie, critically balanced with Scopex and Cream glug 1 rod short of the island margins.Mark commented "the fish gave no prior notification of a take, it simply tore off...".
Rob O'Neill also did well catching a 25lb mirror from Temple this weekend. Fishing swim 9, rob caught on a Monster Worm boilie which is new bait from Aqua Dynamix.
Fishing was of his first sessions on Temple, Neil Jackson was not disappointed with his 20lb 2oz common which he caught on an Icelandic Red boilie which he fished to the margins from swim 6.
Having already scored on Temple with a 28lb 3oz mirror, Mark Savage switch to the Old Lake for his second night to join his brother catching 7 carp to 17lb 11oz from peg 75. The successful bait was Masterbaits Oyster boilies, which was also the successful bait on Temple.
Another angler to do well on the Old Lake was Sean Harrington who managed to catch 9 fish during his 48-hour session, which included a stunning 26lb 2oz mirror. Fishing Cell boilies to the open water off the point of the island from peg 14, Sean also had mirrors weighing 21lb and 19lb 14oz included in his catch.
BONDS LAKE
Although Bonds has fished consistently well throughout the hot weather conditions, the cooler weather saw sport creep up to another level this week with some excellent pleasure bags and match weights reported.
With anglers reporting catches of anything between 8 to 20 fish, recent match weights have also topped 100lb making for some pretty hectic action.
With all methods working, the island margins remain one of the key areas to focus on with groundbait feeder and pellet the way to go! The pole line and bank margins are also producing some good sport with pellet and corn over pellet working well.
This weeks catches…
Matt Fuller and his best pal Jude Agate returned midweek for another session on Bonds Lake and ended up with a new PB of 11lbs 3oz. Caught on a hair rigged KG1 8mm pellet, Matt cast his special mix of ground bait through a cage feeder over to the island and was rewarded with plenty of action from the hard fighting mirrors and commons. Jude also got stuck into some good fish with most going around the 7-9lbs mark. Combined both anglers had well over 100lbs, another good day chaps!
Jason Law from Manchester, who was visiting friends locally, opted to tackle the hard fighting carp in Bonds and was rewarded with a 20 fish haul from peg 6. Fishing a feeder to the island margins, which he packed with pellet and Swim Stim groundbait, Jason caught carp to 10lb on corn hook bait for a good ton up haul.
Two local boys to also do well on Bonds this week were Pete Brown from Westcott and Mick Sturt from Ashtead. Fishing pegs 6 and 7, the pair both fished feeder and pellet tight to the island margins catching 22 fish between them for a shared ton up haul.
On his first visit to Bury Hill, Tom Batchelor was delighted to catch a new PB in the shape of an eighteen-pound common, which was quickly followed by a 7lb mirror. Tom caught his PB from close to the island on a ledger set up and his mirror on the float.
Hanwell Club Match
Bonds Lake 12th July 2010
Ton up Gary wins the day
A ton up bag of carp was needed to win Hanwell’s latest club match on Bonds Lake last weekend when Gary Wood on peg 5 fished a small groundbait feeder tight over to the island. With hair rigged pellets on a size 14’s hook, Gary got instant bites when he hit the right spot tight to the island margin cover and with the aid of a catapult pinged a few 8mm carp pellets over the top of his feeder line to get the carp in a feeding frenzy. With carp up to 10lbs plus and plenty in the 6-8lbs mark, Gary also caught a few fish on the pole down the margins and won the day with a fine total weight of 111lbs.
Another good effort came on peg 20 where Paul Mason fished similar tactics to the winner with a nice total of 81lbs of hard fighting commons and mirror carp. Regular feeding with pellets kept the fish interested and feeding for most of the match for Paul.
Peg 11 produced a few good fish for Chris Peal and his 53lbs of pole caught carp close to the margin reed cover was good enough for third place overall.
MILTON LAKE
The cooler weather also sparked some big bags on Milton this week with anglers of all standards reporting plenty of fish in nets to 80lb plus. With tench and crucian making up the bulk of the catches, anglers were also reporting some excellent silver fish with roach and rudd to over 2lb reported as well as a few bream and the odd perch and carp.
With pole and float tactics both working well, worm, pellet, paste and maggot all continue to catch with both the pole line and margins accounting for plenty of fish.
This weeks catches…
Tommy Hall from Dorking had a cracking day last week catching 15 crucian which included fish weighing 3lb, 2lb 7oz and 2lb 6oz, 9 tench to 4lb and 3 good sized roach which included two fish over the magical 2lb mark, the best 2lb 7oz. Tommy caught all his fish on float fished maggot and soft pellet.
Another angler to sample the brilliant fishing Milton has to offer was Andy Steggais who visited with his daughter Amy in the week. Float fishing small Halibut pellets on a size 12 hook and loose feeding pellet and maggot, Andy and his daughter caught 20 crucian and 10 tench.
The week also saw a number of tuition days on Milton, which included Woking School who are regular visitors to Bury Hill. Fishing pegs 20 - 26 under the watchful eye of BH tutor Eric Bailey, two teachers and a group of boys aged 12 all fished waggler to the margins catching a variety of fish which included crucian, tench to 3lb, roach to 2lb 8oz, rudd, perch to 1lb as well as a few bream and even the odd carp. Fishing just 4 hours, worm was the best bait with maggot and pellet loose feed.
Father and sons Andy Fryett, Lucas and Jacob also had a great days tuition with Eric Bailey catching a mixed bag of tench, crucian, rudd, bream and carp. Fishing float to the margins catching on worm and maggot, the happy trio caught more than ever before!
West Ewell Angling Club
5th July 2010
Paste King Heasman secures an easy win on Milton
West Ewell Angling Club held their latest club match on Milton Lake last Sunday and despite the very hot weather a nice cool wind was blowing to give some light relief. Jim Heasman drew one of the hot pegs and made no mistake catching some nice carp and big tench on the pole at 11 metres using his favoured paste bait. Peg 3 is a natural holding area for the fish especially in the winter months so Jim knew he was on a good peg and fished a very good match to put himself almost 20lbs clear of his nearest rival which was Reg Pearse on peg 16 which is situated on the far side of the lake. Reg tried a few methods to locate some fish in numbers but in the end the best tactic for him was to fish a short pole close in the margins with soft hooker pellets for a very nice 46lbs 11oz of mainly tench, crucians and some bonus roach, well over the pound mark. Kevin Carslake drew another good peg on the point and opted to fish at 8 metres on the pole and soft pellet over pellet for a real mixed bag of tench, crucian, bream and quality roach. With another good net of over 40lbs Kevin was also kept busy with a string of bites throughout the 5-hour club match.
