HUGE STOCKING PROGRAMME NOW COMPLETE!

This winter’s huge stocking program is now complete. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen some cracking tench stocked from Temple Lake as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. In turn, following the recent dredging, Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3000 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.

WATER TEMPERATURES

A much better week weather wise with water temperatures finally creeping into double figures hitting 12 degree’s today. The cold nights have also seen oxygen levels rise to saturation with 100% recorded.

Outlook for the week ahead looks good with the weather remaining dry with temperatures sitting around mid teens.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!

As spring finally arrives, so do the big catches with all lakes fishing really well.

On the carp front, the Old Lake has seen a lot more fish being caught from all areas with fish to mid twenties reported in multi bags of up to 16 fish, whilst Temple has also seen a few fish caught this week which included a couple of cracking early thirties.

Whilst a lot of anglers have been concentrating on Bonds and Milton Lakes following the dredging works, they have been missing some terrific fishing on the Old Lake where anglers have been reporting bags to over 200lb. Not surprisingly, bream and skimmers have continued to dominate the catches and with plenty of anglers reporting bags to 60lb plus. There are also quite a few more tench being caught with fish to 7lb reported by both bank and boat anglers. Indeed, boat anglers have found some excellent fishing in the jungle catching big bags of bream and tench as well as the odd carp.

Regarding this weeks fishing on the two smaller lakes, Milton has again seen some terrific early spring fishing with plenty of tench and crucian showing in mixed nets to 100lb as well as quality roach, rudd, perch and bream. Bonds Lake has also seen a marked improvement in sport with plenty of carp being caught in nets to 80lb with anglers reporting a dozen to 20 fish per session.

With good weather forecast to continue over the next week or so, expect the fishing to improve further as water temperatures finally start to catch up following the cold winter.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Superb fishing on the Old Lake this week with plenty of bream, tench and skimmers being caught in nets to well over 200lb. With all banks producing some excellent sport, the mid and shallow water pegs have probably produced the best of the weeks sport with the early pegs on the front and the top end pegs on the long bank both fishing particularly well.

With all methods working, pole, waggler and feeder are all catching given the right swim with both red maggot and pellet being the best baits although as water temperatures continue to increase, larger baits such as paste, corn and mini boilies are starting to catch a few better fish.

With the tench now starting to gather in the jungle, expect dome brilliant sport over the coming days and weeks.

This week catches…

Bury Hill regular Michael Head had another brilliant days sport catching 70 bream and 8 tench for well over 200lb. Fishing front bank peg 6, Michael caught all day long on both the pole and pellet and feeder and corn switching between the two throughout the day. Bagging plenty of fish up around the 5lb mark, Michael’s swim was still fizzing when he packed up.

Gerry Schofield had a good day when he fished peg 34 on the long bank. Fishing a loaded 3AAA waggler, Gerry fished 6mm soft pellets on the hook feeding loose pellet little and often, 6/7 rods out catching bream to 5lb and tench to 6lb giving him an overall weight of 100lb.

Simon Taylor and Hugh Landers both had a brilliant day boat fishing the jungle mid week. Tackling up with 12’ specimen rods and loaded wagglers, the pair fished large pellets which they hair rigged over a bed of hemp, pellet and corn catching tench to 7lb, bream to 5 lb and a couple of bonus carp around the 12lb mark giving them each a bag of well over 100lb.

With recent match weights topping 80lb, Medway Trotters held their latest club match on the front bank of the Old Lake last Sunday and had to contend with a cold northerly wind, which clearly made for some harder fishing. Honors’ on the day went to Glen Holman who feeder fished his way to victory from peg 14 using a groundbait with pellet on the hook. Glen had bream up to 4lbs and his total of 40-6-0 was enough to take the clubs points. Mark Hathway alternated between pole and feeder from peg 4 to put 33-9-0 on the scales for second place whilst Peter Blake on peg 1 had a bonus 13lbs 8oz carp with a few bream for 32-11-0 and third overall. Club secretary Steve Peters should have won the match but pulled out of six good sized bream at the net and his weight of 31-10-0 did not reflect on the action he was having.
Result
1st Glen Holman 40-6-0
2nd Mark Hathway 33-9-0
3rd Peter Blake 32.11-0
4th Steve Peters 31-10-0

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Generally a good week for the carpers, with sport on both the Old Lake and Temple Lake picking up daily as water temperatures continue to creep up.

Whilst the Old Lake has seen quite a few multi catches of up to 20 or so fish reported this week, which included the odd twenty, Temple Lake has seen a good run of bigger fish with 3 thirties caught along with quite a few twenties with anglers reporting up to 5 fish per session.

Whilst the road bank has accounted for a lot of the catches in recent weeks, the last few days has seen the back bank start to produce more fish, which is where the recent run of fish have come from. Bait wise, pretty much anything is working with boilies, stringers, pop ups and corn all accounting for a fish or two.

The Old Lake produced plenty of action again this week with anglers reporting catches of up to 16 fish, which again included a few decent twenties to 25lb. Whilst the fish remain well spread, there seemed to be a return of sport to the deeper water pegs following the weeks hard frosts, although saying that, fish were caught from the shallow and mid water swims.

Tactics and baits on the Old Lake remain much the same as in recent weeks with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go. Bait wise, pretty well any good bait will work at the present time although the old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 will all give you an edge! It is also worth trying one or two of the new boilies hitting the market and particularly the much talked about Marukyu bait range, which includes a new scientifically, produced range of boilies which a few anglers have been catching on.

As reported last week, boat anglers have also been catching a few carp from the jungle with standard boat tactics of float, boilies and large pellet working.

This week catches…

Paul Wyatt led the field on Temple this week catching 3 fish during his 48-hour midweek session, which was Paul’s first fish from Temple. Fishing swim 11, Paul fished homemade hand rolled boilies to the island margins catching a brace of thirties, a 32lb 5oz common and 32lb 4oz mirror as well as a pretty heavy scaled mirror weighing 24lb.

Another angler to get amongst the thirties this week was Mark Gibson who also managed three fish during his session this weekend, all mirrors weighing 32lb 8oz, 25lb 3oz and 19lb 2oz, which was the Parrot. Mark fished swim 12 catching on Cell boilies which he fished as a stringer to the island margins.

Fishing his first session on Temple, Craig Gillard was delighted with his 23lb mirror. Craig fished swim 12 catching on a homemade bait which like Paul Wyatt he also fished to the island margins.

Another angler to catch on Temple was Alan Eades; fishing swim 11 Alan caught a stunning mirror weighing 26lb, which he also caught on Cell boilies. Temple regular Stuart Mountjoy also managed to wheedle one out during his latest visit, this time a pretty 25lb mirror which he caught on popped up corn which he fished to the bank margins from peg 10.

The Old Lake also fished pretty well producing a few multi bags of up to 16 fish in the week which included a few twenties including a couple of 26lb’ers. Adam Porter managed a pretty 26lb mirror during his latest session; fishing peg 24, Adam caught 6 fish on Icelandic Red baits, which he fished to the open water.

Another angler to catch a good twenty this week was Brian Knight from Epsom. Also fishing peg 24, Brian fished a Mainline Cell boilie to the far bank beyond the boathouse catching two fish during his session, a 26lb 8oz leather and 16lb 8oz mirror.

Regular Mark Savage who also opted to fish deep water peg 24 following the recent frosts was also rewarded for his efforts catching 16 fish to 20lb in what turned out to be a busy session. Fishing the NEW much talked about Marukyu bait, Mark was the first angler to our knowledge to catch on these baits fishing Fruit Ichigo boilies over their SDP pellet. Catching from the open water, Mark reported that the bait was BRILLIANT and definitely gave him an edge.

Another angler to do well was regular Tony Vary. Fishing peg 19, Tony fished the new Richworth EXLR 8 baits to the open water catching 6 carp, which included a 19lb 8oz mirror and 18lb 2oz common. Sam Cooper also had a good day catching a new PB in the shape of this 18lb mirror.

BONDS LAKE

Bonds is now starting to fish very well with quite a few anglers reporting ton up bags. With both pole, float and feeder tactics accounting for up to a 20 or so fish to 10lb, most anglers are managing a dozen or so fish for a good 50lb. Both the island margins, bank margins and pole line are producing with maggot and pellet working best, although paste, corn and meat are also starting to catch.
This weeks catches…

Mark Taylor had a great on Bonds midweek catching 22 carp to 11lb for well over 100lb. Fishing an open groundbait feeder, Mark caught steadily from the island margins on large 8mm pellet which he hair rigged fishing a mixed groundbait with small micro pellet in the feeder.

MILTON LAKE

Generally a brilliant week on Milton with anglers bagging plenty of tench and crucian as well as good numbers of quality roach, rudd, perch and bream. With all areas producing a few fish, pole and float tactics are definitely the way to go with both pellet and maggot catching on the pole line and margins.
This weeks catches…

John Fielding had a good day on Milton in the week catching 31 crucian to 2lb, 16 tench to 4lb and simply loads of roach and rudd to well over a pound and a half. John fished peg 30 catching paste and pellet from both the margins and pole line.

Whilst general match results have been excellent on Milton, last Sunday saw slightly more difficult fishing owing to the weather with a respectable 35lb mixed bag winning the day, which was caught by Peter Kay. Second place went to Barry Parker who weighed in 32lb whilst third place went to Ramsey King with 30lb. Pretty well everyone caught on pole and pellet and maggot.

Below is a picture of Sam Gidley’s cracking 3lb 5oz perch which he caught last week.
