HUGE STOCKING PROGRAMME NOW COMPLETE!

This winter’s huge stocking program is now complete. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen some cracking tench stocked from Temple Lake as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. In turn, following the recent dredging, Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3000 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.

WATER TEMPERATURES

A huge boost to water temperatures as the wind finally swings to a southerly raising water temperatures by a full 2.5 degree’s this week to 14.3 degree’s. The continuing cold nights have also seen oxygen levels rise to saturation with 100% recorded.

Outlook for the week ahead is mainly sunny with temperatures sitting around mid teens to upper teens, so expect the great fishing to continue.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!

A brilliant week for sport with all lakes starting to throw up some really big bumper bags and huge fish.

The swing in the wind direction was the nudge that Temple needed for sport to kick in with 5 thirties reported along with good numbers of twenties. Carp action on the Old Lake was also good with anglers reporting multi bags of up to twenty fish, which again included a few decent fish to mid twenties.

On the general front, whilst all lakes have been fishing well, Milton Lake has been going from strength to strength with yet more ton up hauls reported this week which included large numbers of tench and crucian and some cracking big roach, rudd and perch. Bonds Lake also saw a marked increase in catches this week with anglers reporting bags of 30 fish for well over 100lb.

The Old Lake also saw some terrific catches reported this week with both bream and tench showing in good numbers with plenty of four and five pounders being caught with even the odd fish topping 8lb. Boat anglers have also found some excellent fishing from the boats with increasing numbers of tench being caught from the jungle in bags to 80lb.

With good weather forecast to continue over the next week or so, expect the fishing to improve further as water temperatures continue to increase.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Another superb week on the Old Lake with loads of bream, tench and skimmers showing in nets to well over 100lb, which includes the odd big tench to 8lb+ and crucian to 3lb 8oz. With all banks producing some excellent sport, the mid and shallow water swims continue to be the most productive with the early pegs on the front and the top end pegs on the long bank both fishing particularly well.

With all methods working, pole, waggler and feeder are all catching given the right swim with both red maggot and pellet being the best baits although as water temperatures continue to increase, larger baits such as paste, corn and mini boilies are starting to catch a few better fish.

With the tench now starting to gather in the jungle, expect some brilliant sport over the coming days and weeks.
This week catches…
With a string of big catches reported over the past few weeks, this week saw Bury Hill regular Michael Head notch up another days brilliant sport catching 50 bream a couple of tench and a stonking 3lb 8oz crucian for close to 200lb. Fishing his favorite front bank peg 6, Michael caught all day long on the pole fishing 6mm expander pellet over loose fed pellet and Swim Stim groundbait which he cupped in.

Another angler delighted with his day’s sport was Graham Moore from Croydon who managed to bag a new PB in the shape of a cracking 7lb 8oz tench amongst a bag of bream and tench. Fishing peg 24, Graham caught his prized fish on double red maggot, which he fished on a waggler, size 20 hook and 1.5lb bottom making his catch that more memorable.

Brian Jenkins from North Cheam was delighted with his bonus 16lb common which snaffled up his pole-fished corn. Fished peg 21, Brian played his new PB for quite a while before safely netting it.

Last week also saw the first midweek open of the season on the Front Bank and despite a cold breeze and water temperatures still on the low side, all caught in what turned out to be a close match. Lee Perry drew fancied peg 1 and by switching from feeder and pole managed to catch a steady stream of fish during the match with plenty of bream up to 4lbs plus and three nice tench. With a final weight of 63lbs 14oz caught mainly on soft expanders and corn Lee won the match from Steve Gardner who on peg 22 was just behind on 60lbs 11oz. Steve caught most of his bream and skimmers plus one tench on the 14 meter pole line with soft pellet over pellet. On peg 4 Billy McKinley caught on and off during the match as the fish seemed to move in and out but still managed to put a nice bag together which included two tench for third place and 47lbs 14oz. Ian Farmer enjoyed his best result on the Old Lake to date by claiming fourth spot from peg 16 catching bream up to 5lbs for a final score of 41lbs 6oz.

In general the fish were spread out all over the lake and it was good to see quite a few tench showing up in the weights. With warmer weather finally arriving the sport will no doubt increase but please note it is advisable when fishing the matches to bring along two or three nets to spread the fish out as the bream average 4-6lbs and their well being is first on our list of priorities.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Probably our best week for the carpers since the start of winter with 5 thirties and rakes of twenties reported from Temple and some big multi-bags reported from the Old Lake which included the odd twenty to 26lb.

Looking at Temple first, whilst the road bank accounted for a lot of the early catches, the last week or so saw the back bank start to produce more fish, although this week, the fish seem to be well spread with fish showing from all areas. Bait wise, pretty much any good bait will catch with boilies, stringers; pop ups and corn all accounting for a fish or two. However, there is definitely a move away from corn with baits starting to work better.

As expected, once the thirties start to show on Temple, the Old Lake tends to take a bit of a back seat, although the fishing has been equally good with plenty of action being reported with anglers reporting catches of up to a dozen or so fish, which again included the odd twenty. Whilst the fish remain well spread out, the shallow and mid water swims are producing well as are the island margins.

Whilst tactics and baits remain much the same as in recent weeks with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go, pretty well any good bait will work at the present time although the old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 will all give you an edge! It is also worth trying one or two of the new boilies hitting the market and particularly the much talked about Marukyu bait range, which includes a new scientifically produced range of boilies which a few anglers have started to catch on.

As reported last week, boat anglers have also been catching a few carp from the jungle with standard boat tactics of float, boilies and large pellet working.

This week catches…

Temple regular Lee Tait had a good start to his season on Temple bagging a brace of thirties, a 33lb 5oz common and 30lb 6oz mirror. Fishing roadside swim 3, Lee bucked the trend and fished pop up corn to the margins catching over a bed of corn.

Following on from his recent success on Temple when he caught a stunning 36lb mirror, Craig Pearman added yet another Temple lump to his list with a cracking 36lb 11oz mirror. Fishing swim 2 on the road bank, Craig fished a single hi-vis pop up to the margins.

Temple regular David Povey also got amongst the thirties this week catching a 34lb 8oz mirror, which was followed later in his session with a 23lb 8oz mirror. Fishing swim 14, David fished Mainline Cell boilies to the island margins with small single PVA bags filled with free offerings.

Another angler to get amongst the thirties this week was Neil Malcomson. Fishing his favourite swim 10, Neil fished Tiger Nut boilies over a few free offerings catching a brace of mirrors weighing 32lb 11oz and 28lb 4oz.

Other anglers to catch on Temple this week were Gary Brooks who caught a 27lb common on popped up corn from the island margins and Alan Eady who caught a lovely two tone common weighing 26lb from swim 11 on Mainline Cell boilies.

Turning to the Old Lake, Tony Jones had a good day catching three fish, which included a lovely 26lb 4oz common. Fishing swim 31, Tony fished an Amber Strawberry boilie to the open water also catching mirrors weighing 18lb 13oz and 16lb 15oz.

John Stevens had a good session early week bagging 15 fish to 21lb. Fishing the middle area of the long bank, John fished 18mm Icelandic Red baits half way to the island catching 9 mirrors and 6 commons between 12lb and 19lb plus a bonus 21lb common.

Another Bury Hill regular Paul Pitchley grabbed a quick session with his son Owen who broke his PB not once, but three times. Fishing the long bank, Paul and Owen both fished the new Grange Mainline baits with Owen catching from the open water whilst Paul caught from the island margins. Whilst Paul had a stunning 17lb mirror in his four fish catch, it was young Owen who was as chuffed as ninepins catching three fish, each a new PB, the best a 16lb 5oz mirror.

Richard Salvidge from Caterham managed six fish during his session, which included a brace of 18lb’ers. Richard fished peg 11 catching on Dribble Baits Zing Boilies.

BONDS LAKE

Following the recent dredging, Bonds has now started to respond to the increased water depth and better weather with some excellent bags being reported. With both pole, float and feeder tactics accounting for bags to 100lb, it seems that Bonds is now back on form. Whilst all swims are producing plenty of fish, the island margins, bank margins and pole line are the areas to concentrate on with maggot and pellet working best, although paste, corn and meat are also starting to catch.
This weeks catches…

Gerry Hughes had a great day fishing swim 11. Catching carp to 10lb on a light waggler set up, Gerry fed loose 3mm pellet fishing expander pellet over the top 4 rods out in 5’ water.

MILTON LAKE

Another brilliant week on Milton with some hefty bags of tench and crucian reported again this week as well as some cracking big roach, rudd and perch. With all areas producing a few fish, pole and float tactics are definitely the way to go, with pellet, paste and maggot catching on the pole line and inner margins.
This weeks catches…

Bill and Virginia Rusher paid their annual visit to Milton this week for a leading angling mag fishing their favorite pegs 2 and 3. Tackling up with light float set-ups and fishing pellet and paste on the hook whilst loose feeding pellet, the pair had non stop action from the very off catching well over 200lb of fish which included specimen tench and crucian as well as plenty of quality roach, rudd and perch.

Steve Tanner also had a good days fishing when he tackled Milton mid week. Fishing a short pole to both the margins and pole line, Steve fished 6mm expander pellet over loose fed pellet catching crucian to 2lb, tench to 4lb, roach and rudd to 1lb 12oz and two perch both around the 2lb 8oz mark. Another angler to do well on Milton this week was Colin Rogers from Staines who managed tench to 3lb 4oz, a few crucian, bream, rudd and a carp of 5lb. Colin fished a cocktail of maggot, sweetcorn and bread under a light float set up.
