2010 HUGE STOCKING PROGRAMME NOW COMPLETE!

This springs huge stocking program is now complete following the full dredging of both Bonds and Milton Lakes. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen a large number of big tench stocked as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3500 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.

WATER TEMPERATURES

Another hot week, which again saw water temperatures soar into the mid twenties hitting 27 on the odd day. During such conditions oxygen levels tend to move up and down starting low in the morning increasing as the day goes on. However, with one of the most advanced aeration systems of any commercial fishery in the country, we can maintain safe levels of oxygen which trigger the fish to feed, as such the fishing on all lakes has been pretty good despite the hot weather.

Outlook for the week ahead is remaining warm with air temperatures set to sit around the early to mid twenties.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!

Despite the continuing warm weather, the fishing has been pretty good with the two smaller lakes again producing the best of the fishing this week, although saying that, the Old Lake has seen some reasonable bags of tench and bream being caught with the best of the fishing being early and late.

With both Bonds and Milton Lakes continuing to producing some excellent bags of fish despite the hot weather conditions. Milton again saw some cracking mixed bags of fish being caught with tench and crucian showing in particularly good numbers with plenty of quality roach, rudd and perch also showing.

Following this winters re-stocking, Bonds has also seen some great sport these past few days, with anglers reporting bags of up to 30 carp to low doubles for bags to well over 150lb.

On the carp front, whilst sport has generally slowed this week, both Temple and the Old Lake have both seen some reasonable action with Temple still producing the odd thirty and a few twenties whilst anglers on the Old Lake have reported bags of up to a dozen or so fish to mid twenties.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Whilst the hot weather has slowed sport a touch this week, anglers have still been reporting some reasonable catches on the Old Lake with bream and tench both showing in reasonable numbers.

Whilst the best of the fishing has been mainly early and late in the day, anglers have been catching a few fish throughout the midday period with quite a few bags to 50lb reported and even the odd haul to over 200lb.  With all areas producing a few fish, pole, float and feeder tactics have all been catching with a variety of baits such as maggot, banded, expander and soft pellet, corn and paste all working.

Boat anglers have also continued to find some reasonable sport in the jungle with tench, carp and bream accounting for bags to 50lb.
This weeks catches…

Bury Hill regular Mike Head enjoyed another pole bag up session when he fished peg 10 on the front bank last Sunday. Using a long pole at 13 metres and cupping in green swimstim groundbait to keep the peg going all session, Mike used 6mm soft expander pellet on the hook to land 60 bream up to 5lbs plus. Later in the session Mike caught 6 good-sized tench down the margins after he had been trickling in feed next to the reeds for most of the day. Regular feeding kept the bream shoal interested as they fed with confidence helping Mike to another near 200lbs summer bag.

Jim McDowell and Kevin Jackson spent a nice relaxing day on the Old Lake trying out a few methods and baits with one eye fixed firmly on the up and coming Bury Hill midweek opens, which start on 14th July. Pellet as always seems the best bait at this time of year and with Jim on the long pole and Kevin on the tip, they enjoyed a steady run of bites catching an estimated 50 bream up to 4lbs between them for a good 150lb. "Roll on the opens" said Jim.

Despite some pretty hot weather, boat anglers have also found a few fish from the jungle this week. Cuzin Joseef and Colin Hall both had a good day afloat catching tench from the jungle with anglers reporting PB’s, Couzin a 6lb 10oz tench and Colin a tench weighing 5lb 7oz. Both anglers caught on double red maggot over loose fed maggot from the jungle margins.
Baxi Group match 2nd July 2010

Martin shows the way after a few minor alterations

Baxi Group held their latest corporate match on the long bank of the Old Lake last week and with a nice south westerly breeze to cool everyone down it also helped the bream to have a bit of a munch. Chris Martin fished the long pole at 14.5 metres on peg 35 with soft pellet over pellet to connect with a feeding shoal and with slabs up to 5lbs put together a winning bag of 48lbs 4oz. Chris was experiencing quite a few missed bites early on in the match so had to keep changing his shotting patterns until he started to connect with the fish. Also changing to a really light rig helped his cause with 0.11mm hook lengths aiding his presentation.

Second Place went to John Mason on peg 32 who opted to fish a small groundbait feeder at distance pinging 8mm pellets over the top. The first hour was slow which can be the normal scenario but it is important in this period to top up the peg gradually for when the huge shoals arrive and this is exactly what John did has he has a much better end to the match catching bream to 4lbs for a decent weight of 38lbs 4oz.

Third place went to Peter Stuart who was well pleased with his efforts from peg 38 weighing in 22lbs 8oz of bream and skimmers on the feeder at 30 yards. With swimstim green packed into a small cage feeder and halibut pellet hair rigged to a size 16 hook, Peter enjoyed one of his best matches to date earning some tackle vouchers in the process along with Chris and John.
Result

1st Chris Martin 48lbs 4oz

2nd John Mason 38lbs 4oz

3rd Peter Stuart 22lbs 8oz

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Overall a pretty good week for the carpers on both Temple and the Old Lake which was made all the better by the fact that Temple has now seen 50 thirties caught in just 14 weeks, click on link below:
http://www.buryhillfisheries.co.uk/news/50-thirties-in-just-14-weeks-201.html

Following another good run of fish which again included a good number of thirties, the fishing on Temple this week has seen the fish moving around a lot more with a few fish being taken off the top which included a couple of cracking early thirties. With the fish coming out on a variety of baits, there definitely seems to be a lot more fish being caught on boilies with both shop baits and homemade boilies accounting for a few fish, although pop ups, zig rigs and popped up corn all continue to account for the odd fish.

PLEASE NOTE: WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLD LAKE. PLEASE SEE RUSS OR KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

The old lake also bounced back into action with two anglers sharing a cracking 675lb haul. As has been the case for the past few weeks, the shallow and mid water swims continue to produce most of the fish whilst tactics and baits remaining much the same as in recent weeks with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go with pretty much any good bait working with old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 giving anglers the edge!
This weeks catches…

Despite some pretty sticky weather this week, the carp fishing remained on track with yet another thirty reported from Temple along with a few twenties whilst anglers on the Old Lake continued to see some multi bag action which included fish to mid twenties.

Mark Gibson was the lucky angler to break the thirty-pound barrier this week catching a 36lb 10oz mirror which was a new PB for Mark. Fishing swim 6, Mark fished a Cell boilie with a pva bag filled with 4 loose boilies to the channel between the island also catching a 21lb 14oz mirror.

Lee Bacon also managed another good Temple fish off the top in the week, this time a 29lb 2oz common, which he caught off swim 3.

Temple regular Craig Hess also did OK catching 3 fish during his midweek session. Fishing swim 11, Craig fished Activ 8 boilies tipped with corn, which he fished with small PVA bags filled with loose feed to the island margins. Catching two mirrors and a common, Craig’s mirrors weighed 25lb, 21lb 10oz and his common 23lb 5oz.

Another angler to catch on Temple was Scott Miles who managed a 23lb 8oz common and 22lb mirror during his midweek session. Fishing swim 12, Scott caught on single popped up corn, which he fished to the channel next to the island margins.

Whilst not up to his normal standards, Rob Savage caught Temple’s ‘Parrot’ weighing 19lb 5oz on a Cell boilie from swim 9.

Whilst quite a few anglers have reported multi bags from the Old Lake this week, Bury Hill regular Stephen Spear had a busy session catching 13 fish for close to 200lb. Fishing peg 14 on the front bank, Stephen fished Mainline Fusion and Pulse baits over a bed of hemp and particles with his best three fish weighing 20lb 4oz, 19lb 8oz and 18lb 8oz.

Paul Pitchley managed 6 fish during his session topped by a lovely 25lb 10oz mirror. Paul fished Mainline Grange baits to the island margins from peg 38.

John Merritt also had a good session catching 12 fish to 17lb. Fishing peg 36, John caught on single Grange baits over Halibut pellet fished to the island margins.

BH regular Phil Cassidy also did well on the Old Lake catching 9 carp to 19lb. Fishing peg 74, Paul fished a Nash Scopex Red boilie with PVA bags to the far margin also catching on popped up corn.

Dene Kinnane also had a busy session catching 11 carp. Although nothing larger than mid doubles, Dene had a good session catching on 6mm Strawberry pellet which he fished to the island margins.

BONDS LAKE

Another good weeks sport on Bonds despite the continuing warm weather, with anglers again reporting catches to 80lb plus. With all methods working, the island margins still seems to be one of the key areas to focus on as well as the bank margins and pole line which are also accounting for quite a few fish. Whilst most baits will catch, pellet and maggot and the key baits right now feeding little and often which is tending to bring the fish up in the water, so don’t be afraid to fish well off the bottom is necessary.
This weeks catches…

Paul Clark had a brilliant day fishing Bonds midweek catching 17 carp to 9lb for a good 100lb bag. Fishing a loaded waggler 4 rods out, Paul started off fishing a soft pellet hard on bottom feeding small feeder pellets little and often. As the fish moved up in the water, Paul adjusted his rig catching most of his fish just 18” deep as the day went on.

Another angler to do well this week on Bonds was Clive Taylor. Fishing peg 4 along the road, Clive fished a small cage feeder to the island margins catching 20 odd carp to 8lb on small pieces of hair rigged meat with soft pellet feed in their feeder. Interestingly, Clive copied the tactics reported last week, which worked for two other anglers.

MILTON LAKE

Despite the warm weather, anglers on Milton again found the fish in a feeding mood with anglers reporting good bags of crucian and tench as well as plenty of roach, rudd, perch and the odd bream in nets to 100lb.

With both pole and float tactics working, hard and soft pellet, paste and maggot are the best baits.
This weeks catches…

Colin Windless and his brother Mick had a great day on Milton mid week catching close to 200lb between them. Fishing pegs 22 and 23, the pair opted to fish different methods and baits with Mick choosing to float fish double maggot to the margins whilst Colin opted to freeline bread flake. Whilst Mick ended his day with 65 crucian and tench which, included tench to 5lb 3oz and crucian to 2lb for 101lb, Colin also managed to bag a few carp to 12lb 13oz in his 80lb crucian and tench haul.

Bury Hill season ticket holder Keith Hampson from Horley in Surrey enjoyed yet another good midweek session when he tackled the crucians and tench from Milton Lake peg 28. Fishing a small float on rod and reel near the margins Keith caught 20 crucians and 12 tench plus some perch up to the pound mark. In total Keith had around 50lbs all from just a pint of red maggots over 3mm micro feed, a good day’s action by anyone’s standards.
