WATER TEMPERATURES
Despite some heavy rain this week, not much change regarding water temperatures or oxygen levels with water temperatures at 15.3 degree’s and oxygen levels around 33%. Outlook for the week ahead is looking OK generally bright with the odd shower, so perfect weather for fishing.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
Despite some heavy rain, generally a good week for sport on all the lakes, the big carp remain active with another 5 twenties reported from Temple which included yet another big thirty equaling the lake record with good numbers of twenties, whilst the Old Lake also saw plenty of carp action with large numbers of doubles reported along with quite a few twenties to 29lb.
The general sport on the Old Lake has also been pretty good with some great bream and tench bags reported with both bank and boat anglers sharing the action with nets close to 100lb being reported which has included individual fish close to 9lb
Turning to the smaller lakes, Bonds Lake has again fished well with plenty of small carp action with some anglers bagging upwards of 30 fish whilst Milton also continues to fish well with good bags of tench and crucian reported along with some cracking silver fish bags.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
Despite some heavy showers, the fishing on the Old Lake has remained very good with bank and boat anglers sharing some good bags of tench and bream which has included specimen fish to close to 9lb.
All areas of the lake are now fishing well with the mid and shallow water areas fishing particularly well with a number of mixed bags of tench and bream topping the ton reported. With good numbers of tench and bream showing, there has also been a number of crucian caught with a couple of anglers reporting fish to 3lb 8oz from the middle section of the long bank.
As is usual for the time of year, all methods are working although pole and waggler probably have the edge with maggot, caster, worm and soft pellet all catching well although it is always worth trying some of the larger baits such as corn, meat, mini boilies and pellet, which are taking the bigger fish.
This weeks catches
David Janes from Petts Wood, had a great days sport when he tackled peg 34 catching tench to 5lb 8oz, bream to 5lb and two bonus crucian, the best weighing a very respectable 3lb 8oz. David fished peg 34 catching on pole fished meat and corn and was delighted to bag a trio of new PB’s with the tench, bream and crucian he caught.
Another angler to do well was Lee Rose from West Wickham. Fishing next to his pal David Janes, Lee fished pole and pellet to catch tench to 4lb plus, bream to 5lb and also a couple of crucian to 2lb 8oz.
Bury Hill regular Jon Payne from Dorking had a massive bag of fish during his midweek session. Fishing peg 38, Jon fished a Polaris Float at distance with 6mm Choc mini boilies on the hook over 6mm pellet to catch 21 bream to 5lb 2oz, 7 tench to 5lb 1oz and 2 carp around 10lb for a good ton up haul.
Recent matches on the Old Lake have also fished well with winning weights regularly topping 50lb and in some cases 100lb. Last weeks match on the front bank with Harrow Postals AC fished a little harder than recent matches owing to the fish spawning, but was still won with a respectable 50lb plus bag. Sean Brennan won the day with 50lb 6oz of bream, which he caught on the pole and feeder fishing 10mm white boilies and soft pellet. Mick Stanley was second with 24lb of bream and skimmers, which he caught on pole and pellet whilst Rob Pottinger was third with 18lb 14oz with a mixed bream and tench bag taken on pole and maggot.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Clearly we were never going to see another week like last week on Temple which saw 20 thirties banked which included a new lake record together with good numbers of twenties. However this weeks catches did not disappoint those who thought that they had missed out on the action with yet another 6 thirties reported during the week which included another big thirty which equaled the lake record and quite a few twenties, see catch reports below. The Old Lake has also seen another good week with countless doubles reported in multi catches of up to 20 fish as well as few good twenties.
Dealing with Temple’s catches first, it is interesting to note that the majority of the fish this week seem to be coming from the road bank, although the back bank has also thrown up a few fish. The margins clearly remain the favorite areas to target although a couple of anglers did have all their fish from the open water. Despite the lean towards popped up “glugged corn” most good quality baits are working as has been see this week with boilies taking more fish, so keep an open mind as to baits and areas.
The Old Lake has also fished well again this week with lots of doubles reported in multi bags of 20 fish as well as a few decent twenties. With all pegs fishing well, the top end of the long bank and island bank are definitely worth a go with a couple of anglers finding some great sport from this area. Bait wise on the Old Lake, whilst Icelandic Red still takes a lot of beating any good quality bait will catch and Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies are all worth a try as are the new Cotswold baits and the new Terry Hearn Red Fish boilies and Dynamites Spicy Tuna & Sweet Chilli boilies. The odd fish is also coming out on fake corn and pop ups as anglers start to imitate their success from Temple.
This weeks catches
Mark and Tony Nightingale had a great session on Temple catching 7 fish between them, which included a stunning 38lb 7oz mirror, which equaled the lake record. Fishing pegs 13 and 14, Mark was the lucky one to bag a new lake record in the shape of a 38lb 7oz mirror which was quickly followed by a pretty 24lb 10oz mirror. Both fish fell to Mainline Cell boilies, which Mark fished to the open water ignoring the margins. Whilst Mark clearly had the biggest fish of the session, Mark’s dad Tony bagged more fish with a 29lb mirror being the best fish of Tony’s session. Fishing next to Mark on peg 14, Tony also found success from the open water catching his 5 fish on Active 8 baits which he fished with small pva bags filled with pellet. Tony’s other fish were a 25lb 10oz mirror, 24lb 7oz common, 24lb 7oz mirror and 21lb 10oz mirror.
Justin Irving had a good fish during his session mid week, a thumping 35lb 12oz mirror. Fishing to the channel near the aeration pump, Justin fished glugged corn over pellet catching his only fish of the session at 11.40pm from swim 11.
Another angler to catch a thirty this week was Rob O’Neill who caught a brace of mirrors weighing 33lb 14oz and 25lb 4oz. Rob fished glugged corn from swim 12 with both fish coming from the island margins.
Following his success on Temple bank holiday weekend when he caught 4 fish, which included a brace of thirties, Neil Malcomson returned this week catching another 5 fish which again included a cracking thirty. Fishing the same swim as before, swim 5 on the road bank, Neil fished a variety of baits catching on popped up corn, maggot and Chocolate Malt boilies from the island, margins and open water. Topped by his 31lb 12oz mirror, Neil’s other fish were three commons weighing 27lb, 25lb and 22lb and a mirror weighing 25lb.
Gus Steel was yet another angler to bag a thirty in the week, this time a 31lb 8oz mirror. Fishing swim 9, Gus fished a Maple 8 boilie to the open water feeding a few loose boilies and pellet.
Another angler to catch a 31lb 8oz mirror this week was Mike Saxby who fished swim 7, Mike fished popped up corn over pellet to the open water.
Fishing only his second session on Temple since joining, Vernan Ellis was delighted with his 31lb 4oz mirror. Opting to fish swim 10, Vernon fished a single homemade boilie to the island margins.
Taking time out from his work placement, Sparshalt student Chris Knight grabbed a couple of nights on Temple and was rewarded with a brace of mirrors weighing 29lb 10oz and 23lb 8oz. Fishing peg 6, Chris fished popped up plastic corn over pellet catching both of his fish close to the island.
Temple regular Sean Howard was struggling to find the thirties this week but still managed 4 fish topped by a 27lb 4oz mirror. Fishing glugged corn to the island, Sean changed tack this week and fished swim 2 catching mirrors weighing 27lb 4oz, 21lb 4oz, 21lb 2oz and 19lb 8oz, indeed Sean seems to be the only angler on /Temple to ever catch one of the few sub twenty fish.
Turning to the Old Lake, Scott Maslen popped down Friday night and fished one of the early pegs on the front bank catching 3 twenties and a couple of upper doubles. Fishing boilies to the far bank, Scott’s twenties which were all mirrors weighed 24lb, 22lb and 20lb 4oz.
Another Scott, this time Scott Stroud also had a good session catching 11 fish to 22lb 12oz. Fishing peg 74, Scott fished Icelandic Red baits to the island margins and open water.
Making his first visit for a while, it was good to see Mark Savage back on the bank this weekend and with 15 fish caught it was clear that Mark had not lost any of his ability. Not sure what bait Mark was on, but his best fish weighed 21lb 12oz with all fish coming from behind the far bank lilies off peg 56. Well done Mark.
Jason Richards aged just 12 was delighted with his 20lb 5oz mirror. Jason fished a Scopex boilie with fake corn to the open water from peg 38.
Although no twenties to his name this week, Temple regular Gavin Campbell managed 5 fish during his over nighter topped by a 19lb mirror. Gavin caught all his fish on KG1 baits.
BONDS LAKE
Another excellent week on Bonds Lake with some great catches of carp reported in nets to 80lb plus. With all pegs fishing well, the road and back bank are definitely worth a go with anglers reporting bags of up to 30 fish. At this time of year all methods will work although float and pole are probably the most popular methods. Bait wise, maggot and soft pellet are catching well although mini boilies, corn and soft paste baits are also worth a go.
This weeks catches
Bonds regular Andrew Manning had a good session early week catching 26 carp to just over 8lb. Fishing road peg 3, Andrew caught steadily from the off catching on pole and soft pellet which he fished at 12mts. With the odd small tench and roach included in his catch, Andrew had well over 100lb.
MILTON LAKE
Another good week on Milton with plenty of tench and crucian showing from all pegs as well as roach, rudd and perch. With the best of the action coming to pole and float tactics, maggot, caster and worm all catching well, with pellet, paste, corn and taking the better fish.
This weeks catches
Peter Mills had a good day on Milton catching 14 crucian, 17 tench and quite a few roach and rudd for a good 60lb bag. Peter fished peg 3 catching on pole and pellet just off the reeds.
