WATER TEMPERATURES
Another cracking week as we head into spring with plenty of sun helping to push water temperatures up further a further degree to 10.2 degree’s whilst oxygen levels remained constant at around 30%.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!
ANOTHER GREAT WEEK with all lakes producing some fantastic sport, which included 4 thirties from Temple Lake and a good number of ton up bags of tench and bream on the Old Lake along with some great multi bags of carp. The two smaller lakes also fished exceptionally well with plenty of small carp to 8lb showing on Bonds in bags to 80lb whilst Milton Lake produced yet more big perch to over 3lb and some hefty nets of prime roach and rudd as well as a some good bags of tench and even the odd crucian.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – PREDATOR FISHING
(Predator season now closed until 1st October)
Whilst the predator season is now finished until October 1st, I have to mention a stonking 15lb 1oz zed, which was caught on the last day of the season by Carl Butler aged 14. Fishing with his father, the pair fished peg 11 along the front bank catching where they had success in the past so were hopeful about the day ahead, although this turned out to be one of the best days fishing we have ever had. Arriving at 7am the first fish fell to dad, which turned out to be an 8 lbs. 9 oz zander, which was soon backed up with another Zander of a similar size. This prompted Carl to switch baits from small roach to oily sardine and herring that his dad was catching on. This switch prompted Carl’s first Zander of the day, which turned out to be about 7lbs, this was followed by a Zander of 10lbs 4oz, which made Carl’s day until he landed the huge 15lbs 1oz zed, which was a new PB.
All fish were caught by ledgering pieces of either sardine or herring on a size 10 treble and soft trace wire using a feeder packed with oily fish as a running weight, fished at 50 yards.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
Another remarkable week on the Old Lake with yet more big bags of tench and bream reported from both the front and long banks with boat anglers also cashing in on the action. With the best of the fishing coming from the deep and mid water pegs, there was a lot more fish taken from the shallower water with boat anglers in the jungle also catching. Indeed this has been the best start to the season ever for the tench with fish to 7lb reported.
Whilst tactics remain much the same as previous weeks with both feeder and float tactics catching well, pole tactics continue to be the winning method with maggot over cupped pellet and ground bait caster working particularly well, although caster and worm as well as larger baits such as corn, hair rigged punched meat and banded pellet are also working, particularly for the bigger fish.
This weeks catches
Regular Haydon Woods had another crack at the tench and bream mid week catching 30 odd tench and bream to 5lb from the Willow Tree swim on the front bank. Haydon fished a 12m pole cupping in Swim Stim green 3mm pellet with double maggot on the hook.
Bury Hill regular Keith Hampson had a couple of good days mid week catching tench and bream to 6lb. Fishing pegs 22 and 24 on consecutive days, Keith fished a waggler catching on maggot over pellet.
Terry Mills was another angler who bagged up last week, catching a dozen or so tench to 5lb and 17 bream. Terry fished a loaded waggler 5 rods out feeding small pellet and catching on double red maggot.
David Burne travelled from Watford Herts in search of a good days fishing and was not disappointed with his near 20 fish bag of tench and bream. Fishing peg 29, David fished a 10mts pole with red maggot on the hook-feeding pellet. After reading last weeks reports, Matthew Barnet fished HOT peg 29 catching a new PB in the shape of a 7lb 7oz bream. Matthew fished 3 red maggots with a cage feeder packed with squid and mussel groundbait.

Jim Mc Dowell with a nice Old Lake 5lb tench.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE - CARP
A great week for the carpers with both Temple and the Old Lake producing some superb action resulting in some great fish and more thirties. Following reports of last weekends 35lb 12oz mirror from Temple, this week saw another three thirties reported as well as 4 or 5 twenties. Again the middle-sections appear to be producing the best chance of a fish or two with both the margins and deeper water areas fishing well. Whilst small baits continue to score such as small broken sections of cream pop ups and glugged plastic corn, Pro Active Pineapple and Fishmeal boilies along with various pop ups are all starting to catch a fish or two.
Whilst there has been no big fish reported from the Old Lake this week, the carp are generally on the move with a number of anglers reporting multi bags of up to a dozen fish with the shallow water pegs again seeing most of the action. Whilst pretty much any good quality bait will catch, Icelandic Red, Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies are all worth a go as are some of the new Cotswold baits and the new Terry Hearn bait.
This weeks catches
To catch up with last weekend’s action, Keron Stiff caught a cracking 35lb 12oz mirror from Temple. Fishing swim 12, Keron caught on a Richworth Pineapple Hawaiian boilie which he fished 6’ from the island over a kilo of freebies.
Another angler to bag a thirty this week was Lee Nockels, fishing swim 5 along the road bank, Lee fished a single piece of fake corn to the island margins catching a stunning 33lb 12oz mirror.

Not to be outdone, Dean Jones caught a nice big common weighing 32lb 15oz, which was soon followed by a 24lb mirror. Fishing swim 11 on the back bank, Dean caught the common on a single popped up piece of corn, which he fished to the left hand island, the 24lb mirror was caught on red and yellow corn popped up from close to the aerator.

Robin Ellis suffered from ‘bus syndrome’ this week, having not caught a common for a while and then three come along at once! Weighing 31lb 12oz, 26lb and 24lb, Robin fished swims 3 and 15 catching all his fish on glugged corn over a few free offerings.

Whilst the thirties tend to make the headlines, there has also been a steady stream of twenties caught from Temple this week with Sean Howard continuing his successes catching mirrors weighing 27lb 2oz and 24lb 8oz. Sean caught both his fish on glugged corn.
Whilst we have not seen any big fish from the Old Lake this week, there has been a good run of multi bags with a couple of anglers reporting a dozen or so fish to just shy of twenty pounds. Pete Stevens was one angler to bag up mid week catching 8 mirrors and 4 commons to 19lb 13oz. Pete fished the early pegs along the front bank catching on 18mm Icelandic Red baits.
Please Note!
Temple Lake can only be fished by Specimen Carp Members who are also able to night fish the Old Lake. With membership numbers strictly limited to anglers with some experience of catching bigger fish, membership includes Old Bury Hill Lake and Temple Lake, our new specimen carp lake. Following recent stockings, Temple currently holds just under a 100 fish to upper thirties, which now includes 35 known thirties, the average size is close to 29lb. To date there has been a waiting list to join, however there is a small number of places available for 2009 which will be available on a first come first served basis, anyone interested should contact David or Jane on 01306 877540, or download an application form from our website.

BONDS LAKE
Another good week on Bonds with anglers catching some good bags of carp to 50lb plus. With both float and feeder tactics working and smaller baits such as maggot catching well, the best of the sport has been coming from the road bank and back banks. With temperatures on the up, most baits such as corn, pellet and mini boilies are now working well.

MILTON LAKE
Milton Lake also saw some good action this week, with some huge perch to over 3lb helping to make up nets to 50lb plus. With quality roach and rudd showing in good numbers, the tench have also been pretty active with anglers reporting up to a dozen fish and even the odd crucian. With most methods working the best of the action has been coming to pole and feeder tactics with maggot, caster and worm all catching, although pellet, paste and corn are also starting to take fish.
