The next few weeks and months will see some major stocking changes taking place on all lakes at Bury Hill which starts in the next few weeks with 500/600 huge tench to 8lb+ being stocked into the Old Lake along with 100 pike to upper doubles.
As we head towards Christmas and the New Year, both Bonds Lake and Milton Lake will also see some major stocking changes taking place with some small carp together with a selection of silver fish and skimmers being added to Bonds Lake whilst Milton will see most of the carp removed which will be replaced by small tench, quality roach, rudd and perch as well as some skimmers. The Old Lake will also see skimmers stocked.
WATER TEMPERATURES
Another silly warm week for the time of year which has seen temperatures top 18 degrees. However as we head into November things are about to change with a large low pushing rain across the UK for the next few days.
Today water temperatures were 12.6 degree’s whilst oxygen levels were 48%.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
With temperatures at unseasonal highs of 18 degree’s, it was no surprise to see all lakes fishing well again this week, particularly for the carp, bream and silver fish with even the odd tench still showing.
Whilst predator sport did slow owing to the bright still conditions, the week saw quite a few zander and pike caught, although these generally tended to be smaller fish with just one double figure zander reported. Saying that, with heavy rain forecast as we head into November, expect to see the predator fishing pick up and particularly the zander fishing as conditions improve.
On the carp front, the week has seen another run of thirties from Temple along with quite a few twenties as well as reasonable numbers of fish from the Old Lake which included the odd twenty.
The general fishing also continued well with plenty of bream showing on the Old Lake with bags to 50lb reported which included a few tench, which were caught from the long bank. Bonds and Milton Lakes also saw some good sport with mixed bags of tench, crucian and silver fish to 60lb reported on Milton whilst Bonds saw some pretty good action from the carp with bags to 90lb reported which included multi bags with fish to 12lb reported.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – PIKE & ZANDER FISHING
Despite some great weather, the predator sport did slow a touch this week owing to the bright still conditions. However, most anglers managed a fish or two, although these tended to be on the small side with just a couple of double figure zander reported in the week along with a couple of better sized pike which is normal for the time of year as the bigger fish generally do not show until we have seen a few good hard frosts.
Whilst fish have been caught from all areas, the shallow and mid water areas appear to be the areas to target with fish being caught on a variety of both freshwater and sea baits, although small roach dead baits do seem to be favorite right now. Whilst small roach and trout both caught well the pike and larger zander did fall to smaller sea baits such as smelt and mackerel strip and tails, so it is always best to keep an open mind.
Regarding methods, ledger seems to be the way to go although a lot of fish have also been taken on float fished baits, particularly by boat anglers who have also enjoyed some great sport from the jungle area.
With heavy rain now lashing down, expect to see an improvement in zander sport over the coming days, as mild coloured conditions are perfect.
This weeks catches…
Charlie Cole aged 14 from Chobham, Surrey had a good day in the week catching a surprise13lb 7oz zed from peg 1. The fish was a new PB for Charlie who was fishing for carp at the time having hooked the fish on double boilie.
Mathew Lewis was angler to catch a double figure zed, this time a 10lb 12oz fish. Fishing peg 4, Mathew caught on small roach ledgered dead baits also catching 3 smaller fish to 7lb.
Michael Taylor from Brighton also had a good day when he opted for a boat down the jungle. Fishing float fished dead baits, Michael caught 2 pike, both around early doubles and an 8lb zander from around the margins.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
With another week of unseasonal temperatures, it was again no surprise to see the bream fishing continue well with bags to 60lb reported again this week. With both the front and long banks fishing well, the fish have been spread out, although as the water temperature starts to chill down with the influx of heavy rain, expect to see the fish start to shoal up more.
As has been the case for a number of weeks, the ‘In Method’ continues to be a small feeder or cage feeder with hair rigged or lassoed 8mm or 10mm pellet on a size 14 or 12 barbless hook, although maggot and caster with worm are also starting to catch fish. It is also important to remember to ping out a few pellets around your feeder little and often as this does make a very big difference to the catches.
Pole and float tactics are also catching whilst boat anglers also continued to find some excellent sport from the open water and jungle with bream again being the target species with a few late season tench and the odd carp also showing.
This weeks catches
Bury Hill regular Hayden woods had another good days fishing on the Old Lake this Friday, catching 35lb plus of bream from peg 29. Fishing a small cage feeder, Hayden caught on a single red maggot and 20 hook.
Father and son duo, Paul and Robert Taylor from Reigate, beat off strong competition on this weeks Old Lake open taking first and second place. Drawn on peg 24, Paul Taylor opted to fish both the margins and 12m-pole line catching 4 carp for 54lb and 10lb of skimmers. All of Paul’s fish fell to corn.
Taking second spot was Robert Taylor who was drawn at the other end of the bank on peg 8. Fishing a waggler at long range, Robert caught 54lb of bream to 4lbs fishing pellet and corn.
Third spot went to Geoff Valence from Copthorne, Geoff was drawn on middle peg 15 and weighed in 34lb 7oz of bream, which he caught on open feeder and corn.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
With Temple still buzzing following its 100th thirty of the year, such have the catches been over the past week that this figure now stands at 111, which is testament to the quality of the fish and the fishing.
This week has again seen a run of big fish with another four thirties banked which included a cracking 35lb 8oz mirror with other anglers also reporting some good catches of twenties.
Whilst corn in its various forms is still accounting for plenty of fish, there is definitely a move back towards boilies with a number of fish now being caught on boilies.
The Old Lake has also seen another good run of fish this week with a couple of twenties reported along with quite a few doubles in multi bags of up to 10 fish. With tactics and baits pretty much unchanged, Icelandic Red boilies are fishing well as are KG1, Activ 8, Maple 8 and Cell. Whilst most good quality baits are catching, it is also worth trying pop ups and popped up corn.
This weeks catches
Carl Jansen, a stunning 35lb 8oz mirror, caught the largest fish of the week. Fishing swim 12, Carl caught on popped up corn, which he fished to the island margins.
Another angler to catch was Robin Ellis who managed a cracking brace of thirties last weekend, a pair of commons weighing 31lb 8oz and 31lb. Robin fished peg 15 catching on popped up corn which he fished to the island margins.
Other catches included a 27lb 9oz common and 19lb ghost for Stuart Mountjoy who fished swim 9 catching on a Purple Bait pineapple boilie. Temple regular Rob Savage also managed a brace of commons weighing 27lb 6oz and 23lb 8oz. Rob fished popped up corn to the island margins.
Regular Craig Hess also managed a 24lb mirror during his session. Fishing swim 5, Craig also caught on popped up corn, which he also fished to the island margins.
Below is a picture of young bailiff Tom Butler’s 22lb 2oz mirror, which he caught last week from swim 75.
Other anglers to catch on the Old Lake this week were John Harveson who bagged 5 fish during his overnight session and which included fish to 19lb. All of Michael’s fish fell to Icelandic Red baits. Ron Mills also had a good session catching 7 fish, fishing peg 4, Ron fished Cell baits to the open water catching all of his fish over pellet. Ron’s best fish weighed 17lb 11oz.
BONDS LAKE
Bonds Lake responded well again this week to the mild conditions with plenty of carp showing from all banks with bags to 60lb reported again this week.
As has been the case for the past few weeks, all methods are still working well, although a small feeder with hair-rigged pellet seems to still be the best method with mini boilies and maggot also catching. In fact if you ask in the tackle shop, you can get a leaflet describing the ‘in’ method on Bonds, which will certainly help to increase your catches.
This weeks catches
Carl Mills had a good session mid-week catching a dozen fish to 9lb for a good 70lb bag. Carl fished the textbook method of feeder and pellet.
MILTON LAKE
Not surprisingly, another good week on Milton Lake with some very good catches of silver fish reported from all areas. With a few tench and crucian also showing, float and pole tactics continue to be the best method with both the pole line and margins producing bags to 50lb. Bait wise, pellet, luncheon meat, maggot and caster are all working on the day.
This weeks catches
Joe Simms had a cracking day in the week bagging a 60lb bag of roach, rudd, perch and skimmers as well as a couple of small tench. Fishing a short pole with double maggot, Joe fished peg 3 catching from both the pole line and margin.
