2010 HUGE STOCKING PROGRAMME NOW COMPLETE!

This springs huge stocking program is now complete following the full dredging of both Bonds and Milton Lakes. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen a large number of big tench stocked as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3500 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.

WATER TEMPERATURES

A scorcher of a week with water temperatures soaring into the mid twenties. Oxygen levels have also been up and down with the sun averaging between 50 and 75%.

Outlook for the week ahead is remaining warm with air temperatures set to sit around the mid to high twenties.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!

Despite some scorching weather, the fishing has generally been pretty good and particularly so on Bonds and Milton Lakes which have produced some terrific catches, fishing extremely well for the warm conditions.

However it has been the carp fishing which has taken off this week and particularly so on Temple where the 50th thirty of the year or to be more precise, the past 14 weeks has been reported following a flurry of decent catches over the past week or so with quite a few fish coming off the top.

The Old Lake has also seen a return to better catches with two anglers sharing a 675lb haul whilst quite a few anglers have also reported a few fish from the top although the best of the fishing has been early and late.

However the best of the general fishing has again been found on Bonds and Milton Lakes this week with some excellent catches reported from both lakes. Whilst Milton Lake continues to produce some terrific mixed bags with tench, crucian and silver fish making up the bulk of the catches, anglers have been finding some brilliant sport on Bonds Lake bagging plenty of carp to low doubles in nets to 100lb plus,

Whilst the best of the fishing is morning and late, the Old Lake has also bounced back with some decent nets of bream, skimmers and tench being reported from all areas. Boat sport has also seen a marked improvement with some excellent catches being reported which includes plenty of carp to mid doubles.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

Despite some pretty hot weather, the Old Lake has seen some reasonable catches reported with good numbers of bream showing in nets of up to 30 fish or so, which have also included a few tench.

Whilst the best of the fishing has been mainly early and late in the day, anglers have been catching a few fish during the midday period. With all areas fishing pretty well, pole, float and feeder have all been working well with anglers catching on a variety of baits which includes maggot, both banded, expander and soft pellet, corn and paste.

Boat anglers have also continued to find some reasonable sport in the jungle with tench, carp and bream accounting for bags to 80lb.
This weeks catches…

Mark Parrett took a long walk round to peg 64 on the Old Lake and landed 22 bream to 5lbs using a cage feeder plugged with swimstim green and alternated his bait between soft and hard pellets on the hook.

Martin Peters on the next peg had 20 bream of the same stamp using similar tactics with 8mm hard halibut pellets.

Simon Copus held his birthday match on the front bank last week but it was his mate Chris Durham who was celebrating after winning the match with a cracking weight of 74lbs of bream from peg 1. Chris caught his bumper catch on the feeder using hair rigged 8mm hard halibut pellets. Second place went to Nick Pickett on peg 6 who used a combination of ground bait feeder with red maggots on a size 16’s hook to put a nice 53lbs 12oz on the scales.

Fairlands AC also held their latest club match on the long bank with a good turnout but hot conditions put the fish in a finicky mood with Tony Corpes on peg 32 winning the day with 27lbs 2oz of bream alternating between pole and feeder, soft pellet on a size 16 hook did the trick. Ian Wigmore was just pipped into second place with 25lbs from peg 34 using a feeder and pellet combination to account for his all bream catch

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Overall a pretty good week for the carpers on both Temple and the Old Lake which was made all the better by the fact that Temple has now seen 50 thirties caught in just 14 weeks, click the link on the home page to read more...

Following another good run of fish which again included a good number of thirties, the fishing on Temple this week has seen the fish moving around a lot more with a few fish being taken off the top which included a couple of cracking early thirties. With the fish coming out on a variety of baits, there definitely seems to be a lot more fish being caught on boilies with both shop baits and homemade boilies accounting for a few fish, although pop ups, zig rigs and popped up corn all continue to account for the odd fish.

PLEASE NOTE: WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLD LAKE. PLEASE SEE RUSS OR KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

The old lake also bounced back into action with two anglers sharing a cracking 675lb haul. As has been the case for the past few weeks, the shallow and mid water swims continue to produce most of the fish whilst tactics and baits remaining much the same as in recent weeks with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go with pretty much any good bait working with old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 giving anglers the edge!
This weeks catches…

Fishing his first ever session on Temple, Dean Webb got amongst the action this week catching a lovely brace of mint commons during his midweek 48 hour session which weighed 32lb 12oz and 24lb 2oz. Fishing swim 5, Dean caught on Carp Company Icelandic red 14mm caviar and cranberry boilies which he fished over a bed of 50 freebies and 1kg of Sticky Baits Bloodworm pellet to the left of the island close to the reed bed.

Another angler to catch on his first ever session on Temple was Ben Froud who also managed his first ever thirty, a cracking 30lb 6oz mirror. Opting to fish swim 4, Ben fished Carp Company OPM juicy fruits 16mm boilies over sticky baits bloodworm pellet, with his fish coming from the island margins. During his 48 hour session, Ben had 3 pick ups from 3 different spots but had hook pulls on the first two takes before slipping the net under his first ever 30 pounder following his third take of the session.

Another Temple regular to get amongst the Big Fish action was Dean Jones who not only caught the biggest fish of the week, a stunning 37lb 4oz mirror, but who also managed a brace of thirties in his three fish haul, the thirty seven, a 30lb 4oz mirror and 25lb 5oz common. Fishing his favourite swim 11 on the back bank, Dean caught all his fish on popped up 12mm Cell boilies over a bed of pellet which he fished tight to the lilies on the left hand side of the island margins.

With an increasing number of fish coming to surface baits, Neal Hoare managed to nick a stunning 34lb 2oz mirror from the top which fell to a black foam imitation bait which he fished just on the surface using an adjustable zig rig.

Two more anglers who scored on Temple this week were Bury Hill bailiffs Ed Mason and Lee Bacon who grabbed a quick midweek overnight session catching six fish between them. Fishing swim 14, Ed was the first to get amongst the action catching a stunning MINT 32lb 10oz common which he caught on a white chocolate pop up which he fished just 1” off the bottom close to the island margins. Ed’s other two fish both came off the top during two separate short sessions, a 35lb 8oz mirror which he caught on floating crust off swim 15 and a 27lb 12oz common known as 2 Tone which also fell to a floating crust bait being caught off swim 14.

Opting to fish swim 12, Lee Bacon also managed three fish during his session, which was topped by a lovely 30lb 10oz mirror. Fishing a variety of baits, Lee caught his big mirror off the top on floating crust whilst his 25lb 12oz common fell to a Cell boilie, which he fished tight to the island over a few whole and crushed Cell boilies. Lee’s smallest fish of the session, a 22lb mirror was caught on popped up double red and yellow corn, which he also fished to the island margins.

Whilst Temple has been producing plenty of Big Fish action this week, the Old Lake has also been throwing up some good catches topped by Mark Savage and his brothers Andrew Wooding’s 675lb haul. Fishing a 5 day session on pegs 1 and 2 on the Old Lake, Mark and Andrew fished Active 8 boilies over a few kilos of loose fed baits which they targeted to the mid water areas. Fishing simple free running rigs, the pair caught 42 carp, which included a new PB for Andrew in the shape of a 20lb 3oz mirror. With the majority of the fish weighing around the 16lb mark, Mark said that all the fish were in cracking condition and a mix of commons and mirrors.

Although he did not bank any big lumps, Chris Cox from Ashtead fished peg 12 catching 6 carp to 17lb 8oz on Activ 8 boilies.

BONDS LAKE

Despite the warm weather, anglers have found some terrific fishing on Bonds Lake with anglers reporting catches of carp to 100lb. With anglers bagging up to 30 fish or so to low doubles, all methods have been working with the island margins being one of the key areas to focus on as well as the bank margins and pole line which are also accounting for quite a few fish. Whilst most baits will catch, pellet and maggot and the key baits right now. Also little and often feeding is working well which is tending to bring the fish up in the water.
This weeks catches…

Don Baker from Purley popped down to Bonds one afternoon in the week and from peg 8 caught 25 carp to over 6lbs on the pellet waggler cast over to the island. With his weight well over 100lbs, Don kept busy feeding his peg with 8mm carp pellets pinging out 1 and 2 pellets every 15 seconds.

Chris Casey from Essex was also into a big bag of carp when he decided to fish paste down the margins from peg 9. Catching virtually all his fish on his pole top 4, Chris’s biggest fished scaled 13lbs 10oz giving him a new PB.

A small cage feeder cast tight over to the island on a hot and bright sunny day did the trick for anglers Tom Short and his brother Roger as they caught some nice commons and mirrors from pegs 15 and 16. Small pieces of hair rigged meat with soft pellet feed in their feeder kept the fish interested well into the afternoon. With 25 carp in total ranging from 3lbs up to low doubles the two brothers went home all smiles looking forward to a repeat visit in the near future.

Richard Scott from Tonbridge had the best of both lakes when he fished Milton peg 1 in the morning catching stacks of crucians, tench and quality roach before deciding to tackle some of the hard fighting Bonds Lake carp from peg 6. Richard quoted it as “one of the best day’s action I have ever had on any fishery, I have had crucian over 2lbs plus tench to 4lbs plus from Milton and then had a dozen carp from Bonds with the biggest going 13lbs, I am well pleased”

MILTON LAKE

Milton also continued its run of sport this week, with anglers bagging some terrific mixed catches despite temperatures hitting into the high twenties! With anglers reporting good mixed nets of fish, which included good numbers of crucian, tench, roach, rudd, perch and the odd bream, both pole and float tactics were the way to go with both hard and soft pellet, paste and maggot all catching.
This weeks catches…

Simon Wilkes from Reigate enjoyed a good session with his pal Tony Abbot when they fished pegs 9 and 10 earlier in the week. Using margin poles, both anglers caught a steady flow of crucians, tench, roach and rudd with the best specimen being a cracking 2lbs 12oz crucian. After taking some good advice from the tackle shop staff both anglers caught their fish on either red maggots or soft hooker pellets over micro feed pellet.

Regular Ian Dow had a busy day on peg 19 catching virtually every species in the lake including a small zander on red maggots. A light waggler in the margins dotted right down and fishing just over depth was the key to a great day’s action, which Ian estimated to be over the 60lbs mark.

Tim Wyatt from Woolwich was another angler to sample how well Milton is fishing when he caught crucian after crucian from peg 13 behind the island. After cupping out a small pot of pellet to kick off his peg, Tim fished small pieces of soft paste to a size 14’s hook presented 1 inch over depth. With 40 odd crucians and at least 20 tench Tim estimated his catch to weigh around 70lbs, a nice day indeed. Tim said “a brilliant day, I will be back soon to do it all over again”

Cobham AC held their recent club match on Milton Lake and found the fish in a finicky mood in the bright and hot conditions. John Payne led the way from peg 6 with a mixed bag of crucians, tench, roach, rudd and perch to scale 21lbs 3oz on the pellet feeder/pole combination. Graham Moore on peg 13 finished second with 17lbs 3oz again on the feeder whilst Harry Tomlin took third spot with a all pole caught catch of 14lbs 9oz from peg 5. Despite the hard hot bright conditions, all anglers caught a few fish.
