WATER TEMPERATURES
Another good week, which helped water temps rise slightly to 13.5 degree’s whilst oxygen levels remained at around 30%. Outlook for the week ahead is also pretty good with temperatures staying around the early teens.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
A great week generally, with all lakes producing plenty of fish.
On the carp front, both Temple and the Old Lake have fished extremely well with the tally of thirties for Easter week now standing at 8 fish with numerous twenties also reported during the week. The general fishing on the Old Lake has also been excellent with plenty of pleasure and match weights to over 100lb. With tench and bream continuing to dominate catches, good numbers with quality roach, rudd and hybrids have also been showing.
The fishing on Bonds and Milton Lakes has also been good with nets of small carp to 70lb being reported from Bonds whilst Milton is now seeing some good bags of tench and crucian with quality roach, rudd and perch helping to make up the catches.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
Another good week for the general angler with some excellent catches reported by both bank and boat anglers who are starting find some brilliant sport from the jungle area.
Whilst the tench and bream continue to dominate the catches, boat anglers have started to see some exceptional sport from the jungle with good numbers of tench to 8lb being reported along with some good bream to 7lb and the odd carp in bags to well over 100lb. Bank anglers are also finding some good sport from the tench and bream with the mid and shallow water areas starting to come into their own producing some really big bags to both pole, float and feeder tactics. With maggot, caster, worm and pellet all working, larger baits such as corn, meat and soft pellet are also taking the bigger fish so it is worth switching baits occasionally if you are looking to land the odd lump!
This weeks catches
Colin Mills had a terrific day mid week catching well over 100lb of tench and bream from peg 32. Fishing a loaded waggler 6 rods out, Colin fished double red maggot just on bottom whilst feeding small 3mm pellet to land 18 bream to 6lb and 7 tench, the best a whopping 7lb 6oz specimen.
With boat anglers starting to find good numbers of tench, Joe Peters and Simon Taylor had an excellent day down the jungle catching tench, bream and carp. Fishing halfway down the right hand side, the pair fished small loaded floats and large soft pellets over small pellet to land bream to 7lb, tench close to 8lb and 4 carp, the best a stunning plated mirror weighing 18lb 12oz.
A young angler who deserves a mention was Harvey Porter aged just 9. Fishing with his dad Ian, Harvey landed a cracking 4lb 2oz crucian, which is a great fish by anyone’s standards and certainly a real achievement for a lad aged just 9. Harvey float fished double red maggot 2 rods out from peg 21.
Bradley Gibbons aged 11 from Bracknell had a great day at Bury Hill after his father John booked him in for 1 to 1 tuition lesson with onsite tackle shop manager and top flight match angler Russ Evans on the famous Old Lake. With the lesson based on pole fishing and how to catch quality bream and tench, Bradley under Russ’s guidance caught a superb catch of 65lbs during the four-hour stint, which included a personal best tench of 5lbs 2oz (as shown in the photo) caught on a soft pellet. In total Bradley had 13 bream and 3 tench to crown off an excellent afternoon’s action.
Another angler to brush up on his angling skills was Keith Hampson who also had a waggler lesson with Russ. Keith enjoyed some great sport including a nice tench, which fell to a single red maggot on a size 18 hook. Keith went to on to have 10 bream, a tench plus some small perch and rudd.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE - CARP
With good numbers of fish starting to show on both the Old Lake and Temple Lake, Easter week saw 8 thirties caught during the week which included a 32lb mirror on the Old Lake along with plenty of twenties.
Not surprisingly, Temple led the action for the big fish producing 7 thirties and close to a dozen twenties. As is normal at this time of year, the fish remain wide spread with all banks producing the odd fish, although the shallow water swims clearly saw a lot of the action with the margins fishing particularly well to bottom and popped up baits.
Whilst baits remain very varied with all good boilies working as well as popped up baits and glugged corn, “thinking out of the box” is important on Temple and small broken baits and bait combinations such as a small pop up tipped with glugged corn are working. Also look for signs of fish moving putting a bait on them can often lead to a quick take.
The Old Lake also saw some great multi catches reported this week topped by the second thirty of the year as reported last weekend, a cracking 32lb mirror which came from peg 2 as well as a number of twenties. Two anglers also shared a thirty fish haul.
Whilst the fish remain well spread, the mid and shallow water areas and margins both seem to be producing fish. Whilst all good quality baits will catch, Icelandic Red, Fusion, KG1 and Cell boilies are all worth a go as are some of the new Cotswold baits and the new Terry Hearn Red Fish boilies and Dynamites Spicy Tuna & Sweet Chilli boilies. Fake corn and pop ups are also working well.
This weeks catches
The majority of the big fish catches are fully detailed on our website at the following link, other catches are detailed below.

Staying with Temple, Stuart Mountjoy had a great session bagging 5 fish to 29lb 12oz. Fishing swim 10, Stuart caught steadily throughout his session catching from the margins on popped up corn which he fished over lose fed hemp and pellet. Stuarts 3 largest fish were mirrors weighing 29lb 12oz, 29lb 2oz, and 26lb 9oz whilst his two commons weighed 26lb 3oz and 23lb 10oz.
Another angler to catch on Temple was Mike Saxby who caught a 22lb mirror from swim 9. Mike fished a yellow pop up close to the margins.
Turning to the Old Lake, Tom Luke and Ron Ellis from Watford had a cracking session catching 28 fish between them to 22lb. Tom and Ron fished pegs 15 and 16 catching all their fish on Nash Squid and Liver Scopex boilies, which the pair fished over hemp. Ron caught the best fish of the session, a 2llb 2oz mirror whilst Tom’s best fish went 19lb 8oz and 19lb.
Another angler to catch on the Old Lake was Richard Newdegs, Richard fished peg 74 catching 3 fish on KG1, the best an 18lb mirror.
BONDS LAKE
Bonds also fished well again this week with plenty of carp showing in nets to 80lb. With all banks producing fish to both float and feeder tactics, maggot and soft pellet are catching well whilst mini boilies, corn and paste baits are taking the bigger fish to early doubles.
This weeks catches
Harry Tiller had a good day catching 8 decent carp to 9lb and 23 of the small carp stocked this winter. Harry fished a float to the open water in front of peg 5 catching on maggot.
MILTON LAKE
Milton saw another good weeks sport with mixed bags to near 100lb reported. With the tench and crucian starting to show in better numbers, there are still plenty of quality silver fish around as well as the odd perch. With all methods working, the best of the action has again been coming to pole and feeder tactics although float tactics are also working with maggot, caster and worm all catching, with pellet, paste and corn taking the better fish.
This weeks catches
Richard Mills had a great days sport early week catching a good net of tench, crucian, roach and rudd. Richard fished double red maggot to the reeds on peg 20 catching on a light float set up.
