2010 HUGE STOCKING PROGRAMME NOW COMPLETE!

This winter’s/spring huge stocking program is now complete following the full dredging of both Bonds and Milton Lakes. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen a large number of big tench stocked as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3500 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.

WATER TEMPERATURES

Following a glorious week, water temperatures rose a further 3 degree’s to 20 this week whilst oxygen levels were a bit mixed through the week but bouncing back to 70/80% by the weeks close.

Outlook for the week ahead is pretty good although there remains the risk of the odd shower or two, although generally the weather is remaining warm.

THIS WEEKS FISHING!

Generally a good week with plenty of fish showing on all lakes, although the best of the weeks fishing was found early and later in the week.

Following the excitement of Temple’s Ghost being caught weighing 40lbs, the carp fishing has continued in much the same vein with further thirties reported as well as a string of twenties from both Temple and the Old Lake.

The general fishing on the Old Lake also continued well with further bags of tench and bream reported from all banks with boat anglers also reporting some excellent catches as water temperatures finally hit the twenty mark.

The two smaller lakes also saw sport continue with both Bonds and Milton Lakes seeing their fair share of action, although the midday heat towards the end of the week did slow sport a touch. Whilst on-form Milton Lake continued to see some good mixed bags of crucian, tench roach, rudd and perch reported with a few anglers also finding the odd bream, Bonds Lake also saw some good sport with anglers yet again reporting ton up bags of smaller carp.

OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING

With water temperatures finally hitting the magical 20 degree’s, the best of the sport tended to shift to the morning and evening periods with anglers continuing to bag good catches of bream and tench with boat anglers also experiencing some excellent sport from the jungle and around the island margins.

With all banks fishing pretty well, the mid and shallow water areas seemed to be the most productive with pole, float and feeder all catching on a variety of baits which included maggot, both banded, expander and soft pellet, mini boilies and paste.

With good numbers of tench already in the jungle and with more fish joining them day by day, expect some brilliant boat sport over the coming weeks with anglers already reporting bags to 100lb.
This week catches…

Simon Hill had a brilliant day when he fished peg 34 on the long bank. Fishing a loaded waggler 4/5 rods out, Simon fed micro pellets constantly throughout his 5-hour session catching bream to 6lb and tench to 4lb on double red maggot. Simon ended his session with 14 bream and 5 tench for close to 80lb.

Opting to fish the other end of the lake, Mike Taylor fished a small open feeder 30m out from peg 3 catching plenty of bream and a few decent tench. Packing his feeder with Marukyu’s new groundbait blend and alternating between caster and soft pellet on the hook, Mike ended his day with close to 100lb.

OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP

Another good week on Temple despite a slow start to the week following the mixed weather and rain. With 4 thirties already banked this week as I write this report (its only Saturday) along with a few twenties, the week has again thrown up some great fishing with one angler bagging an excellent brace of thirties with another big thirty being taken off the surface.

With all areas accounting for the odd fish, most good quality baits are catching with a variety of baits working particularly well including boilies, stringers, pop ups and corn all accounting for a fish or two. However, as reported previously, there is definitely a move away from corn with boilies and other baits starting to work better.

PLEASE NOTE: WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLD LAKE. PLEASE SEE RUSS OR KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS.

The old lake also experienced another good week with plenty of doubles and a good number of twenties reported with all areas accounting for a few fish. As has been the case for the past few weeks, the shallow and mid water swims continue to produce plenty of fish whilst tactics and baits remaining much the same as in recent weeks with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go with pretty much any good bait working with old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 giving anglers the edge!
This week catches…

Ross Dickens managed a cracking brace of thirties during his midweek session catching a 32lb 10oz mirror and 32lb 6oz common. Fishing swim 8, Ross fished popped up fake maize tight to the island.

Another angler to do well this week was BH bailiff Ed Mason who managed to creep a very pretty 35lb 8oz mirror off the top on crust during a short midweek session. Ed fished swim 15 catching just ½ a rod length out.

BH regular Vernon Ellis managed 3 thirties, all mirrors last week which weighed 32lb 8oz, 31lb and 30lb 12oz as well as 4 twenties. Pictures of Vernon’s mirrors are shown below.

Grabbing a short session on the Old Lake, Elliott Mumford managed a few decent fish during a very busy night, which included mirrors weighing 22lb, 21lb and 19lb. Elliot fished peg 16 on the Old Lakes front bank catching on Icelandic Red baits.

BONDS LAKE

The recent surge in water temperatures to 20 degree’s saw the carp fishing on Bonds bounce yet again with plenty of anglers bagging ton up hauls which included carp to low doubles.

With all methods working, the island margins continue to be the area to concentrate on with maggot and banded hard pellet both working well.
This weeks catches…

It might have been raining most of the day last Tuesday but that did not stop Matt Fuller, Jude Agate and Paul Comben from enjoying a great session together on Bonds. Catching on the Middy shotgun feeder, which they fished to the island margins from pegs 5, 6 and 7, the trio used hard pellet on the hook with the three friends catching a mix of mirrors and commons to just under the 10lbs mark. With the average fish going around 5lbs the total catch was estimated at 350lbs for the rain soaked but happy trio.

MILTON LAKE

Despite some pretty grueling hot weather this week, Milton continued to fish pretty well with anglers again reporting good mixed bags, which included crucian, tench, roach, rudd, perch and the odd bream.

With both pole and float tactics working well, both hard and soft pellet, paste and maggot have all been catching on both the pole line and margins.
This weeks catches…

Milton regular Chis Tavistock had a good day towards the end of the week catching 26 crucian to 2lb, 11 tench to 4lb and plenty of roach and rudd along with 3 bream. Fishing peg 1, Chris opted to fish a light waggler to the left hand margin catching on large thumbnail pieces of soft pellet, which he fished over loose fed pellet.

Pictures show Anglers Mail Stars Bill and Virginia Rusher’s incredible day on Milton recently when they were bagging a fish every two minutes, well Virginia was to Bill’s envy. Fishing road bank pegs 2 and 3, the duo fished running pole rig set ups with soft paste proving to be the best bait. Following some blistering action, the pair each bagged 70lbs of fish with Virginia bagging mainly crucian to 2lb plus and a bonus 1lb 8oz roach whilst Bill settled for a shedload of tench and a nice 2lb crucian.
