This winter’s huge stocking program is now complete following the dredging of both Bonds and Milton Lakes. Old Bury Hill Lake has seen a large number of big tench stocked as well as a good number of bream and skimmers. Milton Lake has seen most of the carp removed which we have replaced with 500 small tench, over 3500 crucian and simply loads of quality roach, rudd, some gigantic perch as well as a few bream and skimmers. Bonds Lake has also seen a further stocking of small carp from Milton as well as a few roach, rudd and skimmers.
WATER TEMPERATURES
Following a much warmer week, water temperatures rose 4 degree’s to 17 this week whilst oxygen levels were a bit mixed being 80% on Bonds and Milton Lakes and 40% on the Old Lake.
THIS WEEKS FISHING!
A brilliant couple of weeks with all lakes continuing to fish very well with big mixed bags and plenty of specimens reported which included a new record carp for Temple Lake, a stunning 40lb Ghost! The Old Lake also saw plenty of carp action with a number of anglers reporting multi-bags of up to a dozen fish to mid twenties.
With much improved weather, the general fishing on all lakes also sparked into life with big catches reported from all lakes with the Old Lake seeing further big bags of tench and bream reported with both bank and boat anglers reporting bumper action.
Both Bonds and Milton Lakes also saw their fair share of catches this week with both lakes producing some excellent sport despite the fish spawning. Milton Lake continued to see some big mixed bags reported with crucian and tench dominating the catches supported by quality roach and rudd. In turn, Bonds Lake also saw catches increase with a number of anglers reporting bags to 150lbs.
OLD BURY HILL LAKE – GENERAL & BOAT FISHING
Following a lot warmer week, the fishing responded to the increasing water temperatures with anglers catching some excellent bags of bream and tench from both the bank and boat which included a couple of near 200lb bags despite the fish spawning.
With good catches reported from all banks, the mid and shallow water areas continued to be the most productive with both pole, float and feeder catching on a variety of baits which included maggot, pellet, mini boilies and paste.
With good numbers of tench already in the jungle and with more fish joining them day by day, expect some brilliant boat sport over the coming weeks with anglers already reporting bags to over 100lb.
This week catches…
Bagging 25 bream to 5lb, BH regular Hayden Woods had a great days sport when he fished peg 38 along the long bank catching steadily on a 13m pole with banded pellet on the hook over 6mm feed pellets.
Opting to fish peg 63 on the island bank, Calum Jones from Petersfield caught 17 bream to 5lb and 3 tench to 6lb for a good 150lb bag. Calum fished a groundbait feeder with larger Halibut pellet on the hook.
Brian Gould from Crawley had a brilliant day on the Old Lake catching 16 bream to 4lbs plus two 6lb tench. Fishing peg 32 along the long bank, Brian fished a loaded waggler 6 rods out catching on corn on a size 16 hook which he fished over a bed of 4mm Halibut pellet.
Another angler to do well was John Green also from Croydon who opted to fish peg 11 on the front bank. Fishing a waggler, John caught on maggot over pellet from the margins ending his day with 8 tench to 6lb 8oz and 12 bream to 6lb.
Another angler to opt for the back bank was Simon Davis from Capel who caught 19 bream to 5lbs and a bonus carp for close to 100lb. Fishing peg 70, Simon fished a light ledger catching on 10mm boilies which he fished to the island.
The past few weeks have also seen a lot more tench caught from the jungle with boat anglers reporting bags to 100lb. Fishing float tactics, John Bowditch from Rayleigh Essex had a great day catching 12 tench to 6lb 8oz from the left hand margins catching on float fished maggot and caster.
OLD BURY HILL & TEMPLE LAKE – CARP
Another brilliant week for the carpers on both Temple and the Old Lake topped by a new lake record for Temple following the capture of the infamous Ghost weighing 40lb exactly. With five thirties reported from Temple and plenty of action from the Old Lake which include multi bags of up to a dozen fish or so, anglers on both lakes made the most of the bumper action following the warmer weather.
With the Temple fish continuing to show from all areas, most good quality baits are catching with a variety of baits working particularly well including boilies, stringers, pop ups and corn all accounting for a fish or two. However, there is definitely a move away from corn with boilies and other baits starting to work better.
PLEASE NOTE: WITH IMMEDIATE EFFECT, LEAD CORE IS BANNED ON BOTH TEMPLE AND THE OLD LAKE. PLEASE SEE RUSS OR KEN IN THE SHOP FOR FURTHER DETAILS.
The old lake also saw another good weeks action with plenty of doubles and a good number of twenties reported with all areas accounting for a few fish. With the shallow and mid water swims continuing to produce plenty of fish, tactics and baits remaining much the same as in recent weeks with ledger and PVA bags clearly the way to go with pretty much any good bait working with old favorites such as Icelandic Red, Cell, Fusion, Maple 8 and KG1 giving anglers the edge! It is also worth trying one or two of the new boilies hitting the market and particularly the much talked about Marukyu bait range, which includes a new scientifically produced range of boilies which a few anglers have started to catch on.
Boat anglers have also been catching a few carp from the jungle with standard boat tactics consisting of float, boilies and large pellet working well.
This week catches…
Barry Osbourne was the lucky angler to catch Temples biggest fish yet, The Ghost weighing dead on 40lb. Fishing swim 15 after seeing 3 carp surface on the far island Barry fished 3 rods, with 2 rods tight against the reeds. Tackling up with a Korda Super Natural hooklink with a knotless knot, ESP size 8 wide gap hook Barry fished a Mainline Cell 14mm boilies and PVA stocking with 5 free offerings on the catching rod. The fish was landed around 10.15pm Friday night after a good 20min fight and after zeroing his Kevin Nash nightlite scales, the fish weighed exactly 40lb after being weighed twice.
Another angler to do well on Temple this week was regular Vernon Ellis. Fishing two sessions, Vernon caught 3 thirties, all mirrors weighing 32lb 8oz, 31lb and 30lb 12oz as well as 4 twenties, 3 mirrors weighing 28lb 8oz, 24lb and 22lb 7oz as well as a 24lb ghost. Fishing swims 11 and 12, Vernon caught on a single hand-rolled boilie, which he fished tight to the island margins.
Another angler to bag a Temple thirty was Mark Penn who caught a 31lb 8oz mirror from swim 2 catching on corn from the island margins.
Other catches included 3 carp to Dean Jones, the biggest a 29lb mirror. A 25lb mirror to Rob Savage who caught from swim 14 on a homemade boilie from the island margins.

Turning to the Old Lake, Phil Good managed a new PB in the shape of a 24lb mirror. Phil fished peg 56 catching on freelined bread.
Trevor Carter also did well on the fifties catching 3 carp, the best a 20lb 12oz mirror. Phil fished a popped up Cell bait to the margins over loose fed Marukyu pellet.
BONDS LAKE
A surge in water temperature saw the carp fishing on Bonds really take off this week with a number of anglers reporting bumper catches to well over 100lbs.
With pole, float and feeder tactics all working, the margins continue to be the areas to concentrate on with maggot and banded pellet both working well, although as water temperatures continue to increase expect to catch up in the water.
This weeks catches…
Steve Gippin from Purley Surrey had a great days sport catching 21 carp to 11lb from peg 13. Fishing a waggler tight to the island with hair rigged pellet, Steve caught steadily all day keeping the fish feeding by regularly catapulting 8mm pellets around his float to keep the masses of carp in his swim happy.
Another angler on Bonds to find some great sport was Trevor Sims from North London. Fishing the road bank, Trevor fished a short pole catching 18 carp to 13lb 8oz on paste, which he fished to the nearside margins.
BH regular Steve Delia also had a good day on Bonds this week catching 14 carp to 9lb. Fishing peg 14, Steve fished a small cage feeder tight to the island catching on pellet and paste.
MILTON LAKE
Milton also responded to the increase in temperature last week with anglers reporting some great mixed bags, which included lots of crucian, and tench as well as quality roach and rudd.
With both pole and float tactics working well, big bags of tench and crucian have again been reported this week along with some huge roach to over 2lb and good sized rudd and perch with nets 100lb being pretty common. With all areas producing, float and pole tactics are definitely the way to go, with pellet, paste and maggot catching on the pole line and margins.
This weeks catches…
Craig Dillon and Simon Dew travelled down from Peterborough to sample Miltons sport and were both rewarded with a superb days action with the pair sharing a huge 100lb bag which in cluded 33 crucian to 2lb, 24 tench to 4lb and some quality roach to 1lb 12oz.
Gary smith also had a good day on Milton catching 40lbs of crucian plus a few tench, roach and rudd for a 60lb bag. Gary caught on float and soft pellet catching from the margins.
As recently reported, Brian Green had a good session on Milton bagging a cracking crucian weighing 4lb 1oz in his 50lb mixed bag. Most likely a brown goldfish, this is still a cracking fish.
